That would be pretty sweet. It'll already be powered by it's own NP batt, and you could mount dipoles on the shoulder straps.

What about teaming up with Gotham Sound and incorporating their dealer and user-supplied scans into the app? Say if a scan of an area X amount of miles away from your current location is available, the data can be used along with the current TV database to better coordinate. I'd gladly pay for another add-on to get that sort of functionality all in a single app. Thoughts? http://gothamfaxes.com/

Mixer needed, Chicago, today through 2/10
Carlos Maeda replied to Marc Hoppe's topic in Work Available - Available for Work
Got the same email on my way back home last night (gotta love 4am last call). They only want to pay $400/day w/gear. Told them where to shove it, wished them luck, and proceeded to bed a happy camper. -
Canare StarQuad can be a bit of a pain to solder, especially with TA connectors, but it's a small price to pay for the level of RF shielding it provides. Back in 2012 I scored a little over 100' of L-4E5C for $50 on eBay and have been making my own shorty cables ever since. Which reminds me, I'm probably gonna have to buy some more soon.

Rubber Bottom for K-Tek Avalon Graphite CCR Boom?
Carlos Maeda replied to Carlos Maeda's topic in Equipment
It was a tight fit, but the Ambient bottom works perfectly. No cutting or adhesive necessary. Flipped the XLR so that the right angle wouldn't hit the ground when rested. Very satisfied overall. -
This happened once in my 552 with PowerEx batts... deepest one would get stuck half way down the tube. I had a small pencil magnet that didn't have enough pull to get it out on its own. I resorted to putting gaff tape at the end of the magnet and pressing it firm against the batt. With a light pull, batt came out no problem.

Rubber Bottom for K-Tek Avalon Graphite CCR Boom?
Carlos Maeda replied to Carlos Maeda's topic in Equipment
I've owned a KEG-150CCR for 3-4 years now and really enjoy it. Bought it used but in real good condition off a camera guy for $300. When I needed a locking collar replaced, my local shop (Second City Sound, Chicago) gave me a K-152CCR as a loaner while it was out. After using the Klassic on a few jobs, I realized the only thing I liked better about it was the rubber bottom. To me it wasn't any lighter, I didn't find the dimpled collars to be much better than the cross-hatched ones, and I really didn't see myself taking advantage of the different modules. (Do any of you guys carry multiples and swap them out regularly?) Anyways, that's the reason I'm not looking to buy another pole. I decided to look at other brands and came across these replacement bottoms for Ambient poles and I think the P35 model could fit. I'm gonna call Pro-Sound on Monday to see if any are in stock and if they could give me a better description (ie the internal diameter and depth, is it threaded, etc). http://www.pro-sound.com/p/SAMBP35.html -
Rubber Bottom for K-Tek Avalon Graphite CCR Boom?

Very interesting, I'll look into this. Thanks! -
Of all the differences between it and the Klassic series, it's really only this one feature I wish I had. Maybe I'm using wrong terminology or something, but my searches haven't turned up anything... short of cutting up a tennis/hand ball, anyone have any ideas of how I can get something like this onto my pole?

Maybe use some adapters like these with AA batts instead of those huge C cells. http://www.amazon.com/C-sized-Adapter-Shells-AA-Battery/dp/B000855034/ref=pd_cp_e_0

Rado, didn't I read somewhere that you use Imedion 2400 AAs in your TXs? How would you compare the two? I'm looking to buy 30-40 batts soon, and at their current pricing the Eneloop Pro AAs are about twice as much.

I have a Rycote S-Series I could let go. PM me if you're interested.

I assume only the plastic ring broke and the nylon loop is still attached and in good condition. How about an "S-Biner" like these? The ones I've used in the past were smaller diameter than a standard carabiner.

Something like this could work, but you'd be limiting yourself as far as mic placement goes. Like others have said above, I think two boom boys paired with lightweight stands (not c-stands) would give you more flexibility for not much more weight.

Quick release looks interesting.

iZotope RX 3 Noise Profile Automation?
Carlos Maeda replied to Carlos Maeda's topic in The Post Place
Guess I'm just trying to find a cleaner way to do so non-destructively (of the newer generation where I haven't learned the skill to commit completely to my decisions, lol). You're currently able to automate 6 threshold points, so in my mind I see something like "Profile #1 On/Off, Profile #2 On/Off, etc. Wishful thinking I suppose. -
Is this something that's possible that I am too dumb to figure out on my own? I have maybe 5 different noise profiles to filter out, and at the moment I have to run individual instances of the plugin and automate the global bypass in order to do so and keep my CPU happy. I know I could destructive edit a copy of the selected audio, but it seems to me what I'm proposing wouldn't be that difficult to implement. Anyone else have thoughts on the matter? Please share.

Wonder if the new pods will be compatible with my existing S-Series.

how to get a channel to bypass the recorder on Sound Devices 552
Carlos Maeda replied to FirdEist88's topic in Equipment
Wouldn't running mic level signal to the H4n negate one of the biggest reasons for using an external mixer? I'd imagine the noise floor would be much higher compared to Line level. -
I'm curious to know how stiff the Mickey Mic's cable is compared to the TL-40; I keep on hearing the cables on OST mics are pretty rigid.
