I bought a used M72 comtek system and of course it did not come with the right cable. The only ones I see for sale have a stereo cable to the transmitter. I checked inside the transmitter and it has a mono female. Will the stereo cable work if I am feeding it a mono signal from a ta3 plug?

thanks, John in OKC.

I don't know for sure - hopefully another forum member can address this.

You should be aware, however, that cables purchased from Comtek incorporate a filter trap to keep that nuisance RF signal out of your mixer or recorder.

I put together a cable and I am having some issues like it is overdriving the transmitter if I try to get the volume to a decent level. Mic level is too low and line is too hot. -10 gives me the best result but if I turn the transmitter gain very high, i get distortion. Trying to figure out if the transmitter is bad or I need one of the cables from Comtek.

You do. For both the RF protection and build quality.  Any of the non-big box pro production sound sales houses could also build you one as well.

Does anyone know anywhere that can still service/upgrade the m72 transmitters ? Ive got a broken one which i need fixed and upgraded to  BNC aerial (option 7). Ive tried Comtek and while very helpful they said the products are too old for them to service.

Thanks John - the trouble is I'm in the UK and can only use some of the '7-'  frequencies around 174mhz and slightly above - most of the ones i see for sale are around 75mhz not much good for me.

You can try Audio Services in Toronto, Canada. http://audioservicescanada.com/

They may be able to do it. They say it's complicated but do-able.

However, with shipping, etc. it may be more cost effective to buy a used one.

Here's the deal....  Comtek will STILL repair many of the PR-72 receivers, but they must be after a particular serial number which escapes me at this time, call them and ask...  Any units older are considered too old to repair and must be trashed, repaired somewhere else or used for parts.... Units after the serial number cut off can be repaired by them...

I would think this is the same as the Transmitters...  Comtek can answer that one...

If you want to buy used Comteks, find out the cut off number, then shop for units after that number only...   Thats my advice...  I doubt they stopped repairing ALL m72 transmitters...

At the price point for the used units these days, I consider them throw away of sorts...  Another used one can be found for the same amount as the repair... I agree..

Thanks for the help everyone - The one I need repairing is too old for comtek I sent them the serial number and that's what they said. I will check with audio services Canada - the pr72's have made me more profit than a lot of my other kit so it may be worth while - thanks again
