chrisbakeruk Posted December 17, 2022 Report Posted December 17, 2022 Hey Guys, I'm increasingly being asked by one of my clients for delivering a 2.1 stereo mix, but also with separate stems for dialogue and music/effects... How normal is this? And anyone know why they might want it? For me I find it a right pain tbh! Any thoughts? Thanks Quote
Bouke Posted December 17, 2022 Report Posted December 17, 2022 This is totally normal. Broadcasters often require it, and it is very practical if something has to change. (Like suddenly music has to change for whatever reason.) Only 2 stems is not that much btw... Quote
Rick Reineke Posted December 17, 2022 Report Posted December 17, 2022 I always give clients a stereo music track , Stereo Fx track and a mono dialog track in addition to the full stereo and 5.1 mixes for b'cast (or whatever) at the proper loudness. Quote
Philip Perkins Posted December 17, 2022 Report Posted December 17, 2022 2.1? Like stereo with an LFE track? I have to say I've never been asked for this. Split stems is a pretty normal thing to ask for. Quote
Olle Sjostrom Posted December 17, 2022 Report Posted December 17, 2022 They have to mean LCR. Right? Seems like terminology confusion Quote
Philip Perkins Posted December 18, 2022 Report Posted December 18, 2022 I haven't been asked for LCR either...stereo (and not LtRt anymore) or 5.1 (maybe Atmos?). Who shows or streams LCR or 2.1? Quote
Indeliblesound Posted December 18, 2022 Report Posted December 18, 2022 Agree with previous, DME is a common request. But I've never seen a ".1" (assuming you mean LFE) request specifically. Quote
TVPostSound Posted December 18, 2022 Report Posted December 18, 2022 Assume he meant 2.0!! You stems are the norm. Mix to stems, then comp your stems to a mix. Stems and mix are on record tracks. Quote
chrisbakeruk Posted January 4, 2023 Author Report Posted January 4, 2023 Sorry Guys, I meant plain old stereo 2.0, typo! Quote
