  2. I’ve worked drag races before and yes you MUST protect your hearing. If you can’t afford Good IEMs or Remote Audio style over ears, at least get shooters’ cans and Shure SE215 or some cheap IEM style ear bud to wear under them so you can monitor sound. If it’s just engine sounds turn your hp monitor volume to zero. You don’t need to amplify noise. Your DPA should be fine. I used a Sanken CS3e it was fine. The noise is an all out aural assault.
  3. She didn't make the finals and I get the reticence to verify with Face Book. Thanks all for reading and considering!
  4. Hi Bouke, I didn't have my notifications set up properly and didn't notice this post. My apologies! But I had checked your site and I have already purchased QTcahnge and am comfortable using it. Thank you very much for this time!
  5. Fantastic! Thanks!!! Thank you as well for your help!
  6. I don't know. I've never recorded drag races. I attended once. As a side note, I would put experiencing a Top Fuel race as a bucket list item. It is a startling experience that literally rattles your rib cage. 300 mph in 4 seconds, 11,000 hp, fuel consumption - 1.5 gallons per second. Don't be misled by this person not wearing ear protection.
  7. Thanks! And what do you think, do I need to be worry about my mic? (High SPL)
  8. Wearing plugs or other ear protection is a must-do when Top Fuel dragsters race. The NHRA says Top Fuel can reach 150db at 50' (15 meters). If you have to spend any time in the pit area when the Top Fuel dragsters are fired up and tested, breathing apparatus is highly recommended. The crew wears full face and breathing apparatus to protect their eyes and lungs. Your eyes will start burning soon after the engine starts up. Top Fuel uses nitromethane as the fuel. It produces nitric acid in the exhaust.
  9. I'm back on this topic and I'm going again to recording drag race for cars and motorcycles (in Kiltsi). I already have for now DPA 2017 (which have a maximum SPL peak rating of 148 dB). Should I use earplugs to protect my hearing? Are you using them??
  10. Aha, I answered you on Reddit, but Conor's answer is much better, I wasn't aware of that Switchcraft part. Sony spares are expensive! If that is the correct part I would hoard several of them just in case!
  11. Looks like these Switchcraft 35RAPC3BVN4 ex Mouser: https://www.mouser.co.za/ProductDetail/Switchcraft/35RAPC3BVN4?qs=IF7nv7MIRJ0XCKZtBNW8BA%3D%3D
  12. Yes I wouldn't use it alone. But as an ingredient in the solution they use it's a non issue.
  13. I was told not to use alcohol because it dries rubber. Also a friend of mine mics that he uses isopropyl alcohol are pretty dry.
  14. Hi everyone, I have a set of seven Sony UTX-B03 bodypack transmitters from the UWP-D series, and three of them have developed an intermittent connection at the minijack input (the classic "wiggle" issue). The audio cuts in and out when the cable moves, so I suspect the 3.5mm locking TRS connector needs to be repaired or replaced. Has anyone here already fixed this problem? How did you repair it? Were you able to find a genuine or compatible replacement minijack connector? Any tips on sourcing the spare part or advice on the repair process? Since multiple transmitters are affected, I’m especially interested in reliable sources for several connectors. I’d really appreciate any experiences, part numbers, or supplier recommendations. Thanks in advance!
  15. Yes - the rubber coating will dry out and start cracking everywhere. So? Isopropyl evaporates at room temperature. I can vouch for uni-solve as a good treatment.
  16. Try treating them with Ballistol. They will smell for a while, but after that there may be a little improvement.
  17. Uni-solve have isopropyl alcohol.
  18. Last week
  19. Besides also not being a Meta fan: Bit of a fail to use a childrens 'contest' for fund raising and let the one with the richest parents / friends win. but this might get too political for this list.
  20. Have you experienced this happening first hand with the silica? I have a few dud Sankens here I might try and do a bit of a test with just for curiosity sake.
  21. The rubber coating is the issue as it's porous. Clean your lavs more regularly and you won't have this issue. Sweat oxidizes everything and changing the shield material won't change this. I'd advise against storing with silica as this dries out the rubber jacket and will cause it to start disintegrating. Uni-solve adhesive remover wipes are amazing for keeping the rubber jacket in good condition, I highly recommend them.
  22. Bit of a fail on Ranger dot org's part. Requiring FaceBook verification doesn't work for people like me who reject surveillance based social media.
  23. I think the solution is for sanken to use better wire and not create planned obsolescence.
  24. For a few months my granddaughter CJ has been in a contest to become the next Junior Ranger. With a little over a day left she is 5th in her quarter final group. She needs to be in first to move to the finals. Today happens to be two for one votes and I'm pulling out all the stops to try and get her to the next round. Voting is free unless you want to make a donation which yields more votes. CJ has visited a National Park every year since she was a baby. Now she's eight. https://jr-ranger.org/2025/cj-09eb Thanks so much! If this post isn't allowed please move or remove.
  25. I find that the shield tends to oxidise quite badly in Sanken mics, usually going green and sticky. I try to advise where possible to add a silica gel pack with each mic during storage just to help with any moisture problems and hopefully prevent this. Perhaps the addition of an oxygen absorber might be helpful? works for my home made jerky.
  26. Have you medical adhesive remover wipes (used to remove dermal tape in hospital)? I’ve found this remedies some of the sticky plastic/rubber issues on older gear. It might help with the cables as well. https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/62661/remove-wipes-single
  27. I have a bunch of unusable lavs. 10 to be exact. DPA had the hardening wire problem that got corrected. But long term COS11 seams like a bad investment. The wire become stinky and sticky! Sanken should correct this somehow.
