I recently worked a 4 day commercial and had 20 comteks on hand. We were using 16 (12 of them agency). There was a lot to shoot and we had 2-3 company moves per day. At the end of day one we had 2 comteks not come back. At the end of day 2 , another 2 went MIA. We were letting the producer know, but they didnt seem to be able to track them down. Producer wasnt worried about paying for new ones, but still I hate leaving without having all gear accounted for. On day 3 , a 5th comtek went missing, so at this point, its just absolutely ridiculous, and thats when I started thinking man... I need a system to keep track of these things. Im not sure how this would work…

Hi all, I have been trying to install Wave Agent on my Mac with the following results: This package is incompatible with this version of macOS. Has anyone encountered this, and is there a workaround or a newer version available somewhere? What comes up to install from Sound Devices seems to be dated 2014, which of course is long before the advent of Apple silicon chips. The reason I would like to have Wave agent working is to split poly files into their mono components for simpler uploading. Best regards, Jim Rillie Production Sound Mixer

I just watched today's Apple's "mass". Pretty interesting, the new processors are really efficient as expected. And they have even lowered prices a bit. Not surprised, as Intel prices their processors as they want holding a virtual monopoly. Interesting times coming, especially with those so called "neural" units tailored for machine learning calculations.

After an outcry from iPhone users that Apple is slowing down older iPhones to prolong battery life, the Verge is reporting: Apple says that batteries are “consumable components,” and is offering anyone with an iPhone 6 or later a battery replacement for $29 starting in late January through December 2018 — a discount of $50 from the usual replacement cost. Apple’s also promising to add features to iOS that provide more information about the battery health in early 2018, so that users are aware of when their batteries are no longer capable of supporting maximum phone performance. I'm using AirPods Pro and I've recently noticed that people often can't hear what I'm saying when I'm on a call. What is going on?

I just love cracking myself up. If you have a Siri-enabled iPhone, ask it "Who Let the Dogs Out?" Then sit back and laugh.

$549, but that includes free engraving. https://www.apple.com/airpods-max/ The advert is pretty cool, though.

I thought that I was going to be angry that they removed all the ports and just kept four usb-c's. But I am actually pretty pleased with the new MacBook pros. I think apple did a great job improving my favourite computer.

It's free, works with their wireless timecode receivers (or any LTC timecode source). Looks good as a display for numbers on a cart, scripty, or other non-frame accurate timecode needs (I'm sure the software is solid, but limitation of latency of iPad screen refresh rate? Need to test...). There are some slate applications out there that charge a lot of money for this feature.

Has anyone tried any of the many external mics available for the iPhone 7 with the Lightning connector? I found a very simple audio recording app called VoiceRecorder. I like the Old School interface that looks like a cassette recorder. Do you have one that you use?

I have a Mini 2011 that I want to update to an SSD. My first concern is, how easy is it to install an operating system to the new drive? This was recommended before migrating content from the old drive. Second, which have you used or would recommend, Crucial or OWC SSD? Thanks in advance!

Hello, does anyone using the Ipad for backing up daily files? I will be using an Ipad as remote for the sound devices 688 on a feature, and I am looking for a solution to use the ipad to make my own files back up (from CF or SD card to HDD), to avoid bringing along my laptop computer. I am new to Apple world and just got my IPad. So far I figured it is not possible but decided to post the question just in case ;-) Thanks Fred

Hey everybody, I´m trying to make a new app for iphone to log the sound reports. I know many of you use sound devices 788 or cantar and they have their on way. But if you are like me, working with smaller recorders (702), on smaller productions, you know there aren´t many options out there. I found the Sound Report app not so helpful when you have small amount of time to be watching your iphone in middle of the shoots and start making notes. I would like to create something where you make as few touchs to the screen as possible. Allowing you to log your report quickly and easy. I like to believe that these small details sometimes can make a lot easier our work. …

Apple has quietly admitted that there might be a problem with the video chips on 'a small percentage' of MacBook Pro models. Just a month too late for me, as mine crapped out during prep for a show and I had to go out and buy another one. Still, at least it looks as though I can get my old one fixed and sell it on. Here's a link that gives some background info: http://preview.tinyurl.com/k5vzbej And here's the official Apple link: http://www.apple.com/uk/support/macbookpro-videoissues/ Regards, John

It can now be said, my son David (aka strangeloop) was part of an Apple commercial which has just been aired (so the veil of secrecy that surrounds all Apple commercials is removed). David's visuals for Flying Lotus come at the climactic end of the commercial. Apple Pays Tribute to Sound Innovations in New Ad After Music Service Launch On Monday, Apple debuted its “History of Sound” commercial, a tribute to 127 years of sound innovations (including a nod to Apple’s iPod products), to promote the new Apple Music service. The spot has aired on national TV three times — once each on ABC, NBC and ESPN, according data from to iSpot — and has generated more than 129,000 o…
