  1. Just read in the latest Mix magazine that the mixer for the new HBO series "Game of Thrones," Ronan Hill, works the same way (with boom mix on track 1, lav mix on track 2 and rest ISOs.) Being he's from the UK, can any other UK-based mixers elaborate on whether they implement the same approach or go mono mix. Cheers!
  2. Peter, I'd be interested in seeing what your Stanley bag looks like filled up. Looks and sounds like a great bag and am thinking of picking one up.
  3. Worked on a documentary this last weekend for HBO about Marriage Equality. Note to self, bring hat next time (burnt the crap out of the top of my head)
  4. It's a fun hobby to pick up. And there's no wrong way to make beer. I take recipes all the time and add more of this, less of that all the time. And Tim, I make a mean double hopped IPA that's killer. Hit me up next time you're in the Bay. Phil, if you're a beer drinker or like to try some, maybe you, me and Keenan can meet up for a tasting.
  5. Don't mean to keep the thread "evolving" but anyone brew their own beer? My logo to the left is part of the logo my family and I use for our brand called Deutscher Bier. Must say, it's much cheaper and more rewarding to brew your own beer. Have a porter fermenting in the 2nd carboy right now. If anyone from SF Bay Area likes home brews, get in touch with me and I'll let you sample it.
  6. So I think I'm going to sell all my drums and cymbals. REALLY pains me to do so, but I need the cash to buy a few things sound-wise. Plus, I'll be moving to NYC next year and won't have any space for them there anyway. Will have to hope I find people to jam with out there who have access to a kit. Anywho, I have drum gear available if anyone's interested. Tama Starclassic Maple kit (various sizes), Zildjian cymbals (A custom, K's, etc.) Email or PM me if anyone's interested. Would love to see these babies go to a nice home and not just some kit on craigslist.
  7. As a drummer, I love this! There's a band called Sleepytime Gorilla Museum from Oakland that makes these weird, awesome instruments and produces some very cool and interesting sounds. Very cool!
  8. Another favorite of mine, which no one's brought up, is Oban. My brother's not a peaty scotch drinker so Oban is our go to scotch when we're together. Tom, life's too short to drink cheap scotch
  9. I'm a fan of the peaty scotches myself. Like Laphroaig, Ardbeg is another excellent peaty scotch. Any of the Glen's are a nice choice. This thread is making me thirsty!
  10. I've been extremely happy with my Oktava. So much so, I just bought another for double boom situations (off to go pick it up at the post office in a few minutes.) Yes, there is some handling noise, but like Phil said, with the proper shockmount AND booming technique, it works perfectly. I think it's helped my booming technique because it is sensitive and requires a steady hand. Down the road, would love to get a pair of Schoeps but that'll be for another day.
  11. Right on Robert! If you get a chance to snap some other shots, would love to check them out.
  12. Ditto to what Mr. Mcguire said. My wife and I watched the film last night. I had heard about it through Jwsound and my wife had heard of it through other film people; pretty cool how many people recommended it through different avenues. The production sound was excellent considering some of those busy NYC streets you had to work with. Jan, we should all be so lucky to work with such a great cast and story. Great job!
  13. What size STORM case do you use for the "everywhere" case?
  14. I believe the tape out of the 302 is an unbalanced output and you don't want to run long distances with unbalanced cables.
  15. Pink tape is SUPER sticky. Would work great but not sure if it would leave a residue on your lav heads or cables. Works great on skin, but can be painful taking it off.
  16. Great shirt dude! I'll send you some cash if you'll ship one up to San Francisco. PM or email me and I can get you an address.
  17. There's Transpore which I use often. There's also tape called Medipore which they use to place over IV sites. It's hypoallergenic and perforated so you ca place over a lav. There's various other kinds of medical tape, but those are the ones I use most often.
  18. Thanks for your thorough response John. I didn't have much on the books for the month of March (couple of short films and a metal record) so I figured this was a good time to sit in on a trial and really see our judicial system at work. It also helps that the judge is a real laid back guy who was cracking jokes often during the long selection process. Will comment more on the trial once it's done.
  19. Got my jury summons for the year, showed up and was picked to serve on the jury. If it hadn't been for a heavy metal record I'm going to be recording and mixing this month (mainly working at night), I don't know if I could have served, for financial reasons, the length of the case (all of March.) Since we're in a business where we jump from gig to gig, I wanted to see a show of hands of how many people have served in a jury, either for a civil or criminal case (I'm serving for a civil case.)
  20. Thank you also for speaking to me yesterday about the gig. I appreciated all the insight your provided over the phone. Can't afford to take the big hit for $250 half way across the world. Might have been able to make it work for $600 a day though. Onto the next gig...
  21. Finishing up post sound for 2 short films that'll head for a festival run (did production sound on both.) Filled in for a mixer friend of mine for a day (thanks Alan for getting me out of the studio!) and tracked/mixed two songs for the singer from Atlanta-based band Stuck Mojo (got to track drums which I hadn't done in a year or so.) March is looking a bit sparse so far...anyone in Bay Area, give me a jingle if you need a boom op or any help.
  22. Finishing up post sound for a film I did with my wife back in September. Foley'd some butcher sounds and figured if my wife lost some fingers that she'd at least be covered underneath my health plan
  23. Is that how close they let you invade the sterile field with your boom?
