in very quiet situations there is a handling issue but for this type of job I had no problems.
Jason that looks like a very military setup you have Loved your work on one of the Lifestyle real estate shows I watched the other night!
Thanks Grant I will look at at that as well. I have owned both SQN and 302s and loved both. The Nomad does most of what I need these days , just looking at an emergency backup plan and a lightweight contingency
Nicole my standard kit these days is the Nomad with either a 416 or the 8060, rode and Oscar lavs on my Zaxcom 900lLTH transmitters with the STA/QRX camera hops. I have my SD442 in reserve but think I will sell that and buy a 302 as a lightweight backup
I am lucky enough to have a business line of credit that I use to buy gear. Being in a country with a Goods and Services Tax that amounts to 10% of my income every month, I have adopted the view that if I have a good month I will be passing 10% straight back to the government anyway and if I can offset that with the tax that I pay on new equipment (using my line of credit) I can negate paying that (lost) money to the government and in return gain a new piece of gear and still be able to spread the payments as I need them.
It works for me!
That is true Pete but so far it hasn't presented a drama to me as I have both D-Tap and Hirose cables for the QRX. It does however block the D-tap output of some batteries which limits the Camera's use of power in some situations. Overall I love the IDX bracket so far!
Your pics have reminded me to "brand" my bracket so when I do forget and leave it on a camera they know who to send it to
I only have one ERX at this stage Jack and the Director grabbed that and hung onto it for the day so I used Sennheiser G3 kits to feed the cameras. Will purchase some more ERX units this year especially with the advent of the 5D MkIII
I used my Nomad 8 on a commercial shoot for the first time today. 4 rads, 1 boom, wireless scratch track to camera, all iso. Very quickly came to terms with metadata and false start. Will very soon wonder how I worked without it!
Yes Mark, have been studying it intently and have had many good pointers from Jack Norflus and I believe (touch wood) I am ready for my first big shoot with it this Monday. Timecode slate, 4 rads a boom all iso and a scratch mix radioed to 2x5D cameras. Wish me luck!
I have a carnet list for download on my website (glad you reminded me I need to update it!) and I always refer the production companies I am working with to download it and they copy and paste it into their master list for the production. China has been the only location I have been to where they sat down and looked at every serial number of every piece of equipment - lots of fun after a 9 hour flight and arriving at 2 am!
