  1. Bring on more equipment. Bring on more work. I will sell production on the wonders of this new technology, and how much time and money it will save them, compared to my extra charges for renting more boxes and me hiring an extra assistant. Then I will make more money, have extra hands, and be a leader in providing a valuable service. Please everyone, don't screw it up by *giving it away for free.* The introduction of something new like this is an opportunity. Let's not mess it up for each other. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  2. I did a job recently with both hanging mics and PZMs. PZMs were definitely better.
  3. I would say my biggest gripe is that they aren't open on nights or weekends, or maybe that's just what I want from them. +1 to first post
  4. Is this the case for 664? What are you comparing the TC on the alexa to? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  5. It's funny, I told my clients for years that I was magically transmitting the sound via a crystal attached to the end of my boom pole. This worked pretty well, I made a show of it. Later, after they had worked with a few other guys who weren't as savvy, and gave up the secrets, some started to develop a preference for certain transmitters. My sports clients even sent out gear lists specifying SMVs and not SMQVs! I still take out my wizard staff on some shoots though. People like the quasi-Latin incantations, too. 6. I think I will provide these only on client request, and charge more, since they are more expensive, and require a different set of Lavs wired 3-pin. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. Could one use that with any headphones that have a jack on them? Looks like it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. Re: CL-12: the appeal to me is that it makes the 6-series an all-in-one machine. The 664/88 have all the outputs I need, like the 644, to act as a mixer and connect to multiple cameras, that the 788 lacks. So it can do doc work recording directly to camera via 10-pin snakes, and is easy to use on multi-camera shoots. Yet, like the 788, it has multitrack recording, and now the 688 has mix assist, lending it to reality or corporate meetings. The 6 series have displays and control surfaces that I find easier to read and work than the 788. If I could add a linear control surface, then I could do the cart-based commercials and narrative work the way I like to, without needing to have capital tied up in a whole other system.
  9. I have worked on ergonomics over the years and have found something I like: weight on my hips, not my shoulders. I use a belt to carry most of the weight of my 664 bag. I got this concept from working in a backpacking/outdoor gear store. My back feels much better now. Trekking backpacks are designed to put all the weight on your hips, and the shoulder straps keep the pack from tipping over backwards. I'm not very interested in putting my gear in a backpack that still rests on my shoulders. I am however interested in putting my bag down on the ground or a cart, and picking up a tablet.
  10. What's an SRa/b board update and how much does it cost?
  11. I'm interested in what Glen meant by this.
  12. How can the Solice Mini be made to work for a mix and 8 iso tracks?

  14. It looks to me like the shooter-thumb dial can be assigned to control audio levels,. This means that even if it's set to "LVL + Side", the dial only controls audio levels if it's assigned that way. But the result is the same when sound is on the scene - I'm going to disable "LVL + Side" to avoid any snafus. From the FS7 Manual: Adjusting the audio recording level manuallyUse the following procedure to adjust the audio recording level.1 Set the CH1/CH2 (AUTO/MAN) switches for the channels to adjust manually to “MAN.”2 During shooting or standby, turn the AUDIO LEVEL (CH1)/(CH2) dials of the corresponding channels to adjust the audio level. You can also adjust the recording level using the assignable dial (page 42) if assigned with the Audio Input Level function, or from the setup menu.Notes• IfAudioInput>CH1LevelandCH2Levelinthe Audio menu are both set to “Side,” Audio Input Level in the menu is disabled as there is no target for the Audio Input Level setting. In this case, an assignable dial with Audio Input Level assigned also cannot be used to adjust the audio level.• If Audio Input >CH1 Level or CH2 Level in the Audio menu is set to “Lvl + Side,” the adjustment value is the product of the Audio Input Level setting and the level set by the AUDIO LEVEL dial. If either level is set to the minimum value, the audio is muted. If both levels are set to the maximum value, the maximum level is selected. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  15. Oh I see, I actually read it wrong. I read "more susceptible," but Larry wrote "more immune." Never mind, thank you.
  16. Larry, did you really mean to say line here in #3, or did you mean to say mic levels are 40db more susceptible?
  17. That was a nice little white paper- thank you!
  18. Can you give us an idea about what transmitter adjustments you mean? And what other things to look for in the signal chain?
  19. Senator, there is no way I am deciding on my boom pole. YOU are deciding for me. It is Christmas time, and YOU are sending one to my house. Very few shopping days left!
  20. You can't get blood from a stone, true. We can start a how-to-draw-boundaries thread, which is another favorite of mine. You can milk a cash cow however, so let's grab the udders and squeeze.
  21. I see something important about the difference in approach between selling/up-selling and "pay my rate." On the one hand, I can call attention to all the value I'm providing, on the other, I'm acting more like a bureaucrat. My tactics include saying things like, "you know what would make your life easier in post and save you money, wireless hops," and "the sound is really important to your project for X reasons. Having a real pro on this job will pay off for you, that's me." I am pretty sure this results in higher rates and more rentals for me.
