  1. + 1 on the Sorrels. I've had my pair for 20 years and they still work great.
  2. From an interview I did years ago I learned that that scene, where Ali meets Lawrence, was shot twice, two years apart. David Lean liked the beginning of the first version and the ending of the second version of the scene, so that's how he had it cut in the film. If you look close in the scene, you can see Peter O'toole's face age two years in the middle of the scene. Bob Schuck
  3. Yes, I love these behind the scenes stories too, especially about old Hollywood. I don't remember if Keva ever said if the band picked a best rock station just that they each had their favorite. I know the story is True, because Keva told me the story and showed me the picture of him dressed as Dylan on set before the video ever played on MTV. Bob
  4. A little trivia about the "Handle With Care" video that you might not have heard. On the second day of shooting the video Dylan decided he had done enough, didn't come to the set and told the director to just shoot around him. They hadn't done any of the wide shots yet so they couldn't just shoot around him. The producer called her boyfriend, a guy named Keva, who was Dylan's size and weight and had a big bushy head of hair. He is a director/editor I've worked with many times and it was he who told me this story and showed me pictures he had taken. Keva came to the set, was dressed in Dylan's wardrobe and became his double. There are a number of wide shots of the group with Dylan's back to the camera, shots with his head down so you can't see his face, and one wide shot where Dylan is moving out of sync with the music. They are all Keva and the shot at the end with Dylan on the bicycle is also Keva. He said one of the most memorable moments of the shoot was when between set-ups the band would sit in a mini van, not a motorhome, next to the set and argue over what was the best FM rock station in LA. Word must have gotten back to Dylan that he had a double on set and shooting was going on fine without him, because he showed up suddenly ready to go to work. Keva said he let Dylan finish out the day. Bob Schuck
  5. Last November I had my SR5P block 20 jump to a block 470 in the middle of a shot. It was being used as a camera hop, being powered from the camera, and had worked fine all day up to that point. I turned if off and disconnected the power, reconnected the power and turned it back on and it came back as a block 20 and worked fine the rest of the day. It has continued to work without issue every since. I did speak with Lectro technical support at the time and they had never heard of this happening before and had no explanation for how it could happen. Bob Schuck
  6. The F3 has the same menu structure as the EX3. Hit the status button roll the menu navigation wheel down one page and you get the better meters. Bob
  7. I'm in for $20.00, and Jeff thank you for all you do to keep this site up and running. Bob Schuck
  8. I have a SD 702T and a Macbook Pro running 10.6.3 and have had no trouble mounting he 702T as an external drive using the firewire port, and I've transferred files back and forth without an trouble. The 702T is running version 2.65 if that makes a difference. Bob S.
  9. I have done a few of those small camera shoots, and what I found worked for me and the editor was to flick the tone switch at the head or tail of a take. A short beep of tone went to both my recorder and to the camera. The cameraman didn't have to find a slate or keep rolling waiting for a clap, in fact most of the time the cameraman didn't know I had done it. The editor just took the camera tracks and my tracks and matched up the beeps and then everything was in sync. Bob S.
  10. I just left the Office Depot in Burbank and they have six left at the $39.99 price. Bob Schuck
  11. I don't think this guy is the mixer. I think he is the production manager looking to make a deal. He doesn't just want to rent some gear, he wants someone to provide everything including 9 volts and AA, something available at any corner drug store, supermarket, etc.. In true CL fashion he is not being completely honest. Bob S.
  12. I worked on a Doc. in China and Hong Kong in July 2008, I use wireless blocks 20, 21, and 22 and had no problem finding clean frequencies. Before we went, we ( crew and producer) did the same kind of research you're doing now and almost universally we got this advice. If your production is small enough to fly under the radar, then fly under the radar. The more interaction you have with officials, getting permission to use certain types of equipment, getting permission to go places officially, etc.. The more red flags the production raises, the more they are going to say NO. It is just the way the system works in China. If the production is large enough to have a fixer smoothing the way, then they should be able to answer any of your questions.
