Doug Osborn Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 Agreed. This is a classic case that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts: Jackson Browne, David Lindley, Danny Kortchmar, Waddy Wachtel, the one and only Leland Sklar and the amazing Russ Kunkel. Talk about talent! It doesn't get much better than this. Quote
Audio Daddyo Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 I loved El Rayo-X. Got to do sound for that amazing band a few times in the 80s. I was blown away everytime by Lindley's musical talent. Andy Quote
mikefilosa Posted February 28, 2011 Report Posted February 28, 2011 Another great David Lindley bit ... an amazing virtuoso, from a short-lived but memorable music show called "Later" with Jools Holland..... David Lindley performs Bon Temps Rouler Mike Filosa, CAS Atlanta Quote
old school Posted March 1, 2011 Author Report Posted March 1, 2011 Wow. All great stuff. Good to see so many fans of this group. This youtube vid I am posting has so/so sound, but value none the less IMO because this was the outro to the album and concerts from the era. This was back when real people had to play in real time to make music. No backing tracks or Autotune. Whatever note you hit was the one that was heard. So much a time capsule now, but I still love it. CrewC Jackson Browne - The Load Out / Stay - Live 1978 Quote
Kevin Sorensen Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 In the spirit of people who have the gift of being able to play music, Leo Kottke is a very interesting guy. Most of his music is instrumental. Quote
graham Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 My Dad got me hooked on Kottke about 20- 25 years ago as well as Dave Van Ronk On a separate note, I just finished working on a feature based around Beethoven's Opus 131. Wow, what a piece! It has 7 movements and was written for the quartet to play it straight through, no breaks or time to tune. It is intense. I believe the link is the 6th going into the 7th movement. If you have the time, its pretty awesome. Quote
Jim Gilchrist Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 Doc Watson turns 88 today. A friend and colleague here in Washington, T. Michael Coleman, has produced for and played bass with Doc for years, but I've been a Doc fan a long time before I knew TMC. Daivd Holt Doc Watson Deep River Blues Quote
old school Posted March 7, 2011 Author Report Posted March 7, 2011 Jim Gilchrist posted on Facebook that today (3/7/11) is Arthur Lee's Birthday. He and Love are one of the great LA bands from back in the day. I saw them in 68 in Pasadena. What a show. My band did "Little Red Book" but we could never do others such as "Alone Again, Or"... We did rock this one now and again. Enjoy "7 n 7 Is" by Arthur Lee n Love who are always playing on my radio. CrewC https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65CqDLURZrQ&feature=player_embedded Quote
Jim Gilchrist Posted March 7, 2011 Report Posted March 7, 2011 One of my favorites as well, and I think I saw them here in '69, maybe? Or perhaps a little later in Boston. Arthur Lee succumbed to leukemia in 2006 but toured with a new version of Love starting in 2002. Love co-founder Johnny Echols joined them in 2003. They played here in that incarnation and I sadly wasn't able to see them. Best regards, Jim Quote
Doug Osborn Posted March 8, 2011 Report Posted March 8, 2011 Anybody have the privilege of seeing the Dixie Dregs play live? I was fortunate enough to catch them twice in San Antonio and once in Dallas. They're one of those bands you've just got to see live to really experience and appreciate their energy. I got to see them in fairly small venues and it was always a full house; typically wall-to-wall musicians. Quote
hemmerlinj Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 SInce everyone was bringing up guitarists I though I would post some Adrian Legg. I like Leo Kottke, but Adrian blows him away. Quote
Mick Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 If you're a fan of country guitar pickin' check out Doug Seven. If you google sizzlin guitar licks you'll get a taste of this guy. I used to think Albert lee was one of the pinnacles of country guitar but once you've heard Doug...see if you agree. Quote
Edmond Smith Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 Has anyone took a great interest in Acid Ambience? I recommend Carbon Based Lifeforms-Petula Bendula. Puts me at ease on impact. Forgive me if I seem intruding, I just love to share music that I think many people would enjoy. Quote

A fellow student from Crew's high school plays on this: Greg Leisz is pretty outstanding, I think. I wish my gray hair made me this majestic...... Best regards, Jim Quote
Edmond Smith Posted March 12, 2011 Report Posted March 12, 2011 First that comes to mind about that song: Amazing Bar-BQ, White People, and a great time! Take a listen to this one (if i pressed the right button). Betula Pendula (Carbon Based Lifeforms) Quote
old school Posted March 12, 2011 Author Report Posted March 12, 2011 Hey Edmond, is that Acid Ambience? Sure a lot different than Acid Rock. A whole lot different than I remember Acid.;~) I found it very cinematic in structure and tone. Very chill. As for Majestic Silver Strings, if I ever go to a BBQ and they are playing, I will be the last to leave after I help them pack up the gear and say thanks. Greg Leisz was the best in our town way back when, and has only become better. I love music. CrewC Quote
Edmond Smith Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Hey Crew C, this is Acid Ambience. Just because it has Acid in the tittle doesn't mean ya gotta be on it to enjoy it, Ha. Glad you like it! Quote

Michael P Clark Posted April 2, 2011 Report Posted April 2, 2011 I had the opportunity to do a live Pay Per View show in Atlanta for the Foo Fighters, and it was an amazing show. Seeing the rehearsals, the backstage, the show. It was one of my favorite shows, ever! This should be an interesting piece. Quote
old school Posted April 14, 2011 Author Report Posted April 14, 2011 I have really been digging Paul Simon's new record "So Beautiful or So What". CrewC http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVTlueB-ReI&feature=player_embedded#at=258 Quote
old school Posted May 2, 2011 Author Report Posted May 2, 2011 The Foo Fighters are headlining Lalapalooza in Chi Town this summer. Some good info on them recording the newest album in Dave Grohls Garage studio. I like them and I like Garage's. Cheers. CrewC Quote
