  1. Glen, I have Beta SP and Digital Beta VTRs (which I'm trying to sell for obvious reasons) but will be happy to help you if you still need this. Feel free to email me at blaskisic-at-mac-dot-com. Cheers, BK
  2. Stupid question: I haven't installed the update yet, but reading the info online it sounds like you can now record 12 iso tracks. Is that correct? TIA, BK
  3. "Sticktoitiveness"?
  4. We may even know each other. I've been going to the RS since the mid-90s… BK
  5. It wasn't my intention to be confrontational, I'm sorry. I guess a smiley or two would have helped… BK PS: as far as the Rock Store - indeed, my early-morning almost-weekly pilgrimages there help me fill up on The Milk
  6. Where's the milk of human kindness? Vasileios lives in Greece and, as is obvious from his previous posts, doesn't have a full command of the English language. The OP never wrote "Flagstaff, AZ" to make obvious the geographical reference - and even then I'm not sure a Yurpeen would have known what exactly that referred to. Looking back, he might have thought it referred to a technique or something. Thank you, BK PS: BTW, it's "would have answered," not "would of answered."
  7. Quick comment about the pics: 1- that's the main panel of a machine that was making thumbscrews; note the handmade sign on top 2- that circuit board became the heart of a Venue a few minutes after the picture was taken 3- Larry showing off SMV blanks about to get the medieval treatment by a bazillion-dollar CNC machine
  8. Since I had to spend a few days in ABQ helping my mom with a medical issue, I paid a visit to the World Headquarters of Lectrosonics Intergalactic, where Larry Fisher, wonderful host, took 45 minutes of his time to show me around. He even invited me to have lunch with him –unfortunately, I had plans with Mom– but I'm sure to accept the offer next time. It was truly a memorable experience, and I got to learn how the amazing Lectro products are made. For a geek –and loyal user– such as myself, it was really a treat to visit the factory and hear about all the incredible machines they use to put together the gear many of us use every day. Larry, you're a gentleman, and I wanted to thank you publicly for your kind hospitality and time. I hope to visit again soon - and I'll make sure to bring along some tasty Croatian cookies. Cheers! BK
  9. Forget that. Where's the shock mount? And what kind of pole is _that_? ;-)
  10. I know you're all dying to know whether I found the capacitors… ;-) Well, I have (now I got to solder them in.) Thanks again, Larry! BK
  11. I don't know if I'm just lucky or what, but here -–generally– most independent "producers" that I've worked with, even when they don't have the budget, are aware of sound issues. Doesn't stop them from choosing ridiculous locations (such as a diner "in the middle of nowhere" just across busy train tracks, for instance - true story…) but they usually know it going in. So, my point is, my messages may fall on deaf ears 90% of the time, but there's a slim chance that I'm planting a seed, and that next time they crew up they'll think before allotting peanuts in the budget for the sound department. BK
  12. Hey, Tim: I mount tx upside down, with the antenna shooting downwards. You can have a few straws in different colors, or tape, to conceal it in the clothing
  13. Graham, I've had good luck with ACE bandages, rather than Neopax. It's time consuming and, depending on talent, may or may not be actually possible, but I've found it to work perfectly with tight skirts and such. What Tx are you using? BK
  14. Larry, a couple of days I received via USPS a few stapled sheets with instructions for the conversion, but nothing else. I'm assuming that's coming in a separate package, yes? TIA, BK PS: I'll be visiting Mom in ABQ in two weeks - I might want to visit your facilities, as she lives 20' from you. Do you take visitors?
  15. Michael, I've made a habit of sending them a boilerplate letter, with reasonable rates and, sometimes and if I'm inclined to do so, an explanation why it's not wise to hire the lowest bidder, etc. So far I've sent at least two dozen, I've lost count - but I have yet to receive a reply. There was one "producer" who actually replied and tried to haggle with me via email, but he wasn't even close, so that went nowhere. Still, I think it's important that they hear from several sources what's appropriate and reasonable, even for "festival" shorts… BK
  16. That's $60 a head, if we make it to 30 people. Don't know about youse, but I'm not planning on spending that much… Better to just reserve an area, or a number of seats, or simply to find another location. Sorry, don't have any suggestions. Thanks for putting this together, BK
  17. Hey, Michael, I just changed my reply to "yes", and I see there's 22 confirmed - from previous experience I would say there'll be around 30 people. What's the dollar amount they require? Also, why do we have to reserve the whole patio? Can't we just say "make 30 seats available, please"? Cheers, BK
  18. I've been visiting various breweries in the Midwest and elsewhere for a doc I've been working on. We're often interviewed by local news crews. At Great Lakes in Cleveland, I met this producer/preditor/cameraman who worked for a local network affiliate, who was by himself with a JVC camcorder fitted with an SR unit. He had a handheld mic with a buttplug, as well as a lav mic Lectro transmitter. It just so happens that he was on the same block as I was, so I asked him what frequency he was using, so as not to interfere with each other. He had no idea - I guess they set them and leave them there. Anyway, he conducted and shot the interviews, he shot the B roll, edited and even voiced the final piece, which was 6 or 7 minutes long. He's obviuosly very experienced and the piece looks and sounds good, for what it is, but you KNOW that as recently as five years ago there would have been at least three people involved in making it. BK
  19. Agreed 100%. And yet, I keep reading. I can't help it. BK
  20. Thanks, Larry. I sent you an email as well. BK
  21. I just finished a shoot with a teradek (sp) - admittedly, this was a low-budget shoot, but between the latency, the unreliability of picture availability, and constant reminders from production to put our cell phones on airplane mode, lest they interfere with the video stream, I think the technology isn't quite ready. Unless something was wrong with this particular unit, of course - I have no firsthand experience with them… HTH, BK
