  1. I have never interfered with a focus puller, but I've only had the IFB100 for a few months. Have you tried changing the frequency? That could help. Luckily not all focus pullers are wireless yet
  2. Ona cart you could use the Sennheiser IEM 300 system. It's a two-channel tx/rx system. The tx is rackmount though.
  3. Yes, amplifying the IFB100 is a must. I have simply bought a 14dBi gain antenna which I put on my antenna mast. So far it's working quite well. But what you're asking has been answered thouroughly in those threads you're referring to. I would say that the situation is the same with the QRX100 with IFB option.
  4. I think you need to narrow down your requirements/wishes first. You are looking for a field recorder, but you'll consider a computer with an interface, too. That's a very long list of options you're opening up here. Even with regards to the field recorder you've only said better than your Zoom, but cheaper than 2500,-. Still a long list of many very different devices. Once you've narrowed it down a bit, perhaps then someone can help you with the choice.
  5. No. I think he was saying that it doesn't matter which connection on the Zoom you use, it's still a Zoom
  6. On most DSLR cameras I've seen right-angled plug would be better, but it depends on how deeply recessed the socket is. Also if they have something connected right next to the audio input an RA plug might cause more problems than it solved. I'd go for a straight one just in case. I have never ever seen a camera op put a rx anywhere else than on the camera or the rig. So a few inches should be enough, although a few inches more just to be safe, you can always coil up the rest
  7. I like to believe (perhaps naively) that the "closed garden" concept is giving me a little bit extra security compared to completely open systems.
  8. I think the Maxx is really a good option if you need 4 pre's. Also, if you're considering bringing a computer along, there are plenty of options, but I would take a close look at the RME Quadmic. It can be powered by a 9 - 18V DC supply. And the preamps sound pretty decent, although perhaps not as good as the UFX ones Edit: just saw that the Quadmic does not have a computer interface. Well that might make it less suitable
  9. Resistance is futile... When it comes to the IRS
  10. Well, our union system is a bit different. Borg357 has changed his name
  11. That's probably true, although they are nit too big to fail, and bad business practice can lead to failure. Still, I have met a few Sennheiser representatives and engineers/developers and their are very passionate about their products and I find their support to be very knowledgeable and helpful. It's possibly the corporate overhead which is making things slow and well, stupid.
  12. Interesting. Over here it's almost exactly the opposite. Production companies want to put you on their payroll, but sound mixers tend to refuse. Most of us prefer to be self-employed, but we charge about 30% extra compared to the employees. Anyway, I digress...
  13. That's what I thought, but your post above (#9) made it sound like it wasn't
  14. You think whales enjoy listening to classical recordings? I did not know that. In that case, yes, we should ask for recorders that have a flat freq. response down to .1 Hz
  15. The Senator wasn't serious. Rather he was mocking my desire (and that of many others) to be able to make recordings that go down as low as possible. 0.1 wouldn't be audible anyway, no matter how much you boost it
  16. Why not ask the makers of the BDS? They're pretty good at it...
  17. So just because the production is independent means the production company can't put you on their payroll? Strange
  18. Excellent, my recommendation very early on in this thread this holds up well, then
  19. There was this thing with the Maxx and a fixed low cut at 80Hz, I think. That's no good for classical music recordings. Or has this been resolved?
  20. Sounds like a wiring issue. Double check all your wirings are correct. Did you use the MM-1 with something else, yet? Some setting could be wrong there, too
  21. Have you tried the IR on another 2040? Pointing it at the IR receiver is not enough, in my experience. It needs to actually touch the other device
  22. I totally didn't get that he was looking to use the 633 with a 7 series recorder. I thought he was looking for someone who had used the 633 for classical recordings and generally for an ultra mobile rig. Many have answered that question, although many didn't focus on the mobile aspect. I woiuld like to repeat some of the advice above and say that the Cantar (possibly the best sounding mobile recorder - to my ears), the Sound Devices 788T (lots of inputs), the Maxx, the Nomad and others are all very compact high quality recorders. For this purpose though and depending on personal taste, I would steer clear of a device that's primarily a mixer. Also, I'd try to get the cleanest amps possible. If you want color you can always add it later
  23. don't know how it works in Australia, but over here consumer protection only applies to consumers. As we are professionals this doesn't apply (b2b).
  24. Says Mr. Woodcock... So very sorry about this post
  25. For classical music the THD specs may be more relevant than for location sound and the 7 series has much better values here. As does the Maxx, btw which may also be quite useful for concert recordings and it adds yet another pre.
