Jack Norflus
Here is my first attempt at low profile TA5 connectors:
Matt Radlauer
Those look great jack! They seem to have more room in them to work. I just got a roll of mini star quad.. Gonna make a few ta5s with that and see how it goes.

Gonna make a few ta5s with that and see how it goes. The REAN TA5 connectors have more 'attractive' surface to work with, as the screw thread is on the inside, unlike the Switchcraft where you would have to remove the screw threads to have a cleaner final product, making the whole thing shorter. Nice work, Jack.
Matt Radlauer
That's basically been my SOP for ta3s..which is fine but ta5s are a totally different story. The REAN connectors are literally mini versions.. I'll be switching to those for my production stuff
Rob Lewis
I need to work on my paint job. I used the clear epoxy with 1 drop of food coloring. Matt, looks like you use Testors model paint? I need to put these on my boom poles. Need a lower profile cause is tag ceilings a lot. Matt Radlauer
I actually use acrylic paint.. Results with Testor was not great..

Lawrence Chick
Guys, thanks for all your sharing, this is a photo of my first attempt at DIY-ing my own Right angle connectors, after drooling at your photos for a long while, i finally had the chance last weekend to make it... Eric Toline
Lawrence, You should try the same process with TA connectors as you did with the XLRs. By the way nice work on the XLRs. Eric
Lawrence Chick
Eric, thanks for the kind comments.. I wanted to TA3 connectors for my 788T, but timing didn't allow me and the lack of parts. I'm hoping to get the Rean connectors (as I could only get the normal ones) as they seems to allow more space, than the "normal" connector... Honestly, this was a "project" I've been eyeing to do for months,... and finally had a long weekend to allow me to do it,... and those "Lego Sound Carts" just for laughs... Johnny Karlsson
Thanks everyone for sharing! Here's my first attempt at a right-angled TA-3. I made this cable for use with the 664 Comm Send. I cut a slot for the cable in the Rean TA-3 connector. For a cap, I used the original boot, but cut off the rubber part, then cut the top part of the plastic off and sanded it a little to make it smooth. Then also sanded down the threaded part to only a few millimeters, leaving just enough to screw it back on to hold everything in place. Then hot glue through the top of the cap. At first I left it there and simply finished with a small round sticker, similar to the ones SD supplies with their mixers and was happy with that (I forgot to take any pictures of it at that point), but then of course I wrapped the whole connector in heat shrink tubing.... haha, yeah it wrinkled up because of the angle and won't win any beauty contests, but I like the added sturdiness. MJA
My first attempt at a TA3, looks better than i thought it would, could do this as a TA5 as well as the cable is starquad. now just need to work out what we going to do with the back section and colour coding if we're going to sell these in the UK
Eric Toline
I've found that normal size (.236 diameter) star quad is too heavy & overkill for TA connectors. A smaller diameter (.125 diameter or 1/8") 2 conductor shielded cable is easier to use and does the job just fine. Eric
MJA
we've been using this Belden1804A for quite some time now, its about 0.115 OD (2.9mm for those on this side of the pond), good cable nice and flexible with a good outer insulator. MJA
Ok had a look around got send far to many samples (thank god for free samples) and finally found something that works pretty well, now just need to sort out the colour coding
Eric Toline
I would suggest keeping the caps black and using a 1" length of colored shrink tubing at connector ends for identification. Eric
Matt Radlauer
I would have to agree with Eric.. Black is sexy!
Eric Toline
Nice work for sure but kind of bland looking. I live in S. Florida so color works better for me. Teal, persimmon & flamingo pink are my choices. Eric
Matt Radlauer
Haa haa! I actually made these for me. I was going to do colors but decided to go stealth instead. Everything here in AZ is a different shade of brown.. talk about bland!
Eric Toline
Go with color Matt. Get different colors of nail polish and have fun. Low profile/stealth doesn't work in keeping you employed. I have some extra "Bikini Bottom Blue" if you'd like to spice up your cables. Here's the two tone version. Eric
Matt Radlauer
Eric you crack me up! I've got plenty of colors for my cables.. Maybe I'll tie dye some and bring back the 60's! Let me just grab a color sample from that bathing suit! hold still lady!
