What are you thoughts on using a A20 Mini for boom use with UMP 3?

Should give more dynamic range for scenes going from whisper to shout without extreme gain change.

Thanks

i thought about it for a short while, but decided against it as it would mean buying the UMP III, and a few NP50 batteries and a charger. and two more A20s.

I will wait for the inevitable replacement of the A10.

the A11?

the A10X?

the A10-32?

the shutupandtakemymoney?

Thé A20 mini is made to work with lavs only.

I tried to use it with the UMP3, but it’s not working.

The only way I found to make it work is to ad a transformer between the UMP3 and the A20 mini.

Not really practical.

Agreed. I would never want to put that amount of gack on the mic end of the fish pole. My boom operator would never do that.

It's a far cry better than the Denecke power supply and UM400 days. Still beats having a cable run around or through your pole.

To each their own, I guess. I very much prefer an internally cabled pole with a plug-on at the bottom of the pole.

Worked an entire season, over a year; with MKH 70 + MTP 40 + PHA48 + Sennheiser Windshield / Pistol Grip; 100% for exteriors. Seems like people complain about weight and size where the thing is, the pointless to extend boompole (wide shot) in 6m to capture - what? Especially when the actors in looking like an ant in frame.

Plug-on or cable is fine. Even the MTP 40 + PHA48 is fine as well with MKH 50. I would carry more about "how it sounds" compared to cable rather than if it is A10 or MTP 40 or DPR. At least you have plenty of time waiting the lighting dept. to do their work, so you get enough rest. LOL
