Matthias Richter
is that input feeding power for an electret lav? I am using a cheap dynamic boom mic attached to my headphones since the TB in of my mixer is dynamic ...
RPSharman
I also used, for a time, a 1/4" male to line level lav powered by 9v battery (idea stolen from Beau Baker), to go into line input on my last fader on the Mackie. It was $5 or something on eBay. Worked great.
Christian Spaeth
I plugged the ME-2 into a handheld recorder's 1/8" mic in and it worked. Nomad specs say the slate in has bias power. Not sure if it will work.
johngooch
Better slate mic will make happier boom and utility people...... and editors.
John Blankenship
Just have more fun with it, "And now, from the mellow slate mic of Richard Ragon, we offer a whirlwind trip to the venue of an active film location. Let's listen in to some of the actors as they take us inside a world beyond our imaginations, shall we." Then, they'll know you love 'em. Christian Spaeth
Just successfully tested a Sennheiser ME-2 lav (any one with a TRS termination will work) plugged into the slate input of my Nomad. Now some strong thread and my talkback mic is ready for use.
Jesse Watts
Anybody try the ME-2 with a 788t for slating? I am thinking of cutting off the TRS and wiring a TA3 on it for the slate input. I know this mic is a Electret Condenser, and I'm pretty it can't handle +48 does this mean the 788t can't power it? Is phantom safe to use on this mic? Glen Trew
Probably the best answer: http://www.trewaudio.com/store/product.php?productid=1162&cat=109&page=1. This headset terminates to a TA5 (mini 5-pin XLR), then adapts to whatever device you use. The adapter for the Nomad is not listed yet, but is easily done. gt
Jan McL
Glad this thread was resurrected. Have been less than happy with my slate mic for a while, and it's had me thinking (for next Winter's work) I'd mod my AD255 mixer for a better on-board slate mic (that's been modded with a bit of anti-wind / anti-dust Undercover fabric). In the interim, I could add the SM58 VOG-modded mic to an AD255 fader to have that one-button instant on / instant off feature I've come to love. I'd just leave the 255 fader partially open, pot down the public IFB Aux, and turn that 8th input on the 788 on just for slating purposes to keep the editors happier so I won't ever need to tell them to FO. Mr. Sharman reminds me that the DT250 is modular. Is there a left ear module one could switch out that has a boom mic and proper headset/mic cable? Off to Google it. A headset boom mic would work, but I'd have to engage a fader rather than a spring-mounted button. Hmmm. More coffee. -- Jan
Jim Gilchrist
Hey, Jan. It's the Beyer DT280 you want if you're a DT 250 fan. I've enjoyed them for years. Best regards, JG
RPSharman
My RE50 is on the Solice fader 8 for the PL, and my slate button on the Solice serves as the public line and track ID mic. My gear is enclosed in a rack, so wind noise is not really an issue, and the Solice mic sounds pretty good. My boom guys and I like to chat sometimes, so it's nice to be able to leave the PL open. And a headset mic requires wearing the headphones all the time, which I hate. Speaker, please. Also, when I used to utility for mixers with boom mics, and they were out of the chair, it was a pain to lean into the little mic to answer a question for the boom operator. dustinguished
Put a dry condom on the mic, that'll dull it down Then if the editors want some protection while they "F-off" it's there for 'em!!
