In a pic Scott Farr posted to the Photos of Interest section his Lectro receivers appear to have covers or skins, something which I've never seen but that I'd love to get. Did I see this right; do such things exist? Arnold

Hi There, In video situations I ussualy pull TC from the camera to feed my 744 in external TC mode/ rec run. At the moment I use a breakaway cable + a BNC for TC. I would like to simplify this to a single cable, however I am weary of TC bleed into my audio signal. I would like to avoid a lockit box solution in a single camera setup ($$$). Does anyone know if there is a particular cable make/ configuration that can handle TC and audio without bleed? I would like to be able to run at least 100'. Bartek

Thanks to a kind friend, I have for some time enjoyed the use of a Schoeps MK4 to compliment my own MK41, but he needs it and it's going back to him this week. I think I'm going to miss having a cardiod and I'm wondering if I should a) spend $600 on an MK4 capsule (that I can swap out with the MK41) or, spend $200 on an Oktava and have a 2nd, complete mic I can use as a plant when necessary. The first option gets me the Schoeps quality (and I can add a 2nd pre-amp later). The 2nd option gets me a full mic right away at a good price. Any opinions? (I'm leaning toward the 2nd option). I just received my stereoline camera link and I'm wondering where you guys are setting the gain on the transmitter ? I had it at -6 on the the transmitter hard meter with 442 0 tone, but I was told I should back it down to -12. Any recommendations? Thanks Rob L.

I know to call Trew in the morning but I'm kinda frustrated with myself. I just got a new drive for the DevaII and I hooked it up loaded media and nuthin'. I've tried different cables, top and bottom connectors, termination switch, different media and the drive blinks green for a little while then goes off. I can feel it spin up but the Deva doesn't see it. I have also tried the power on routine with it and the Deva. Tried the old drive and it works fine. Any Ideas? Probably something I'm not doing. Thanks, Larry

This is my last chance to get opinions on the Zaxcom stereo Link as I'm going to purchase one tomorrow. I just want to know about the reliability in the field and the level variances as the unit heats up. Glenn has mentioned that they have fixed the photo cell and heating issue, but I would like to hear from those that have the newer fixed 65 mw stereoline transmitter and and any problems in the field. I can't really afford this system as it is, but if I'm going to spend the money, I need to know if it is going to be reliable. Thanks ahead for any replies !! Rob Lewis

I have for many years been using a Car Com designed by David Ronne. It enables the director to speak to the actors within a towed car via a headset microphone with a push to talk switch. Does anyone know of any other systems that would be similar? Thanks for any input. Regards, Tommy

a few questions for our deva 4/5 users on this forum...is anyone using deva software v3.08 in the field yet? if so, or if you are testing it at home in your time off, has anyone had any problems recording at 96K? we did a test here and while changing sample rates the folder we were using (from 48K to 96K,) we had a record error. data was not written to disk, but the machine appeared to be recording, light on etc. does this have something to do with changing sample rates in a working folder? chris.

Hi, I just had my two Lectro 511 sets sent back to the factory due to drop-out and interference problems. I got an audible flutter- like electric sound when someone spoke in to the lav wired to the lectro. I´m using the DPA 4060´s. I switched the lavs to VT´s but it didn´t help. I read a while back that someone else had similar issues with Lectros, could it be that my IDX- lithium NP-1´s causing the trouble with too much current? I didn´t have time to test the units with batteries though. If someone wants to hear the problem, i´ve got two samples of it, they´re in MP3 format and quite small, so I can email them to anyone. Just drop me a line to my private mail …

hi all i need to set up a new powering system for my bag. thinking of np-1 batteries (like the IDX NP-L7S's maybe?). i've been seeing the BDS system from remote audio on some sites...wondering what my best options are considering i know little about what i really should be looking into and only basics about different battery types. (note: i will be picking up an electronics for dummies book pretty soon, but that's a different issue) bag consists of a SD302 and 744t. i also want to be able to power at least 2 lectro's and maybe another IFB off of it. can i do all of this off of one battery? should i put the 302 and 744t on one battery and power any need…

Ok so I'm working on putting together my new cart. I'm looking to upgrade to a more professional mixer but I'm amazed at the price jump. I mean a SD 442 is $2250 and a Cooper 208 is $14,000 (and the Miranda is supposed to be about the same). While I know the Cooper is worth the money does anyone make a good 8 channel field mixer that is somewhere in the middle? Thanx, Marque

I need a new 12VDC supply for when the cart is on a stage. Something like a Sony AC-500 would be good (well shielded for RF). Any other ideas? It doesn't have to be a battery charger or contain a battery, and doesn't need to make any voltages besides 13 V and change. Being somewhat weather proof would be a plus, but my old one wasn't and it worked for many years. 3-4 amps? Cheap is good. Sine wave and regulated is a must. I've seen the PSC "Power Station" and I think it is overkill for what I'm doing. Philip Perkins

Hi Glenn, I was not able to make your seminar on June 24th, so I have a few questions for you about the mx 12 / deva v combo. I asked at coffey sound after the NAB, but no one seemed to know the answer, so, Here goes. How would I use the mx12 / deva 5 combo 1) to out put to a DAT machine recording at the same time ? 2) to out put to a "comtex" feed to the director/ script supervisor? 3) to out put to a video camera if I need to? Thanks!! Coleman www.colemanmetts.com

Hi, Does anyone know if the right angle XLR connector that K-Tek uses is available for retail sale? The regular Neutrik RA connectors are too big to fit in my zeppelin, without modifying it. Thanks.

For the Cart based folks here, How do you distribute power? Do you use a battery? or a 12 volt power supply? Can you put a charger on your battery while using it? I'm looking at PSC Cart Power, and Remote Audio Hotbox. The PSC has built in 8 amp power supply although I'm not sure it would be enough to run a Cooper 106, Deva2, SD 702t, a Monitor and a Venue. I'm also building pelican battery with a SLA 33aH batt, any recommendations for a charger? thanks, Larry Long

This question may be a bit off topic, since it involves theater rather than film/television/commercials, etc. Does anyone know why they seem to favor the B3 over the B6 in live theater? I was watching the Tony's last night, and the B3's are all over the place, and usually fairly obvious (and usually dangling mid-forehead in some fashion). I would think that the ability to hide the B6 so much more easily and the ability to change out caps if one becomes clogged with makeup would make it a better choice. Any thought? Thanks! Phil

I'm looking at going from using 411As to using either the SixPack or the Venue from Lectrosonics. I just wanted to get everyones opinion on each of the two, what you feel of the pros/cons of each and any good or bad experiences you've had with either setup. The rackmount of the venue won't be a problem for me since I'm about to add a rack case to my kit. Thanx, marque

I understand that a number of people saw this product in Las Vegas and I am interested in knowing whether my perception about it, from the point of view of using a Schoeps microphone and not having seen the product, is accurate. From what I see on the Trew Audio site, and from what I have read about the K-ZEP, it looks like it may be a W20R1 with a larger volume of air between the fur and the basket. For those who have a problem with the fact that the plastic "nose" of the W20R1 is in contact with the front grill of the microphone (You know who you are), it might be preferable for that reason alone. If the analogy to the W20R1 is correct, it may be more attractive…

Can anyone recomend a good, clean and Quiet inverter. I've tried a couple of different ones, but they are all quite loud. Cooling fans are mostly to blame.

Writing files back to DV824

I am having no luck writing files back to the HDD on my DV824 from my computer. This makes it a little difficult to transfer work from the 744T that I have had out on run-around work. The only way to do it at this time, according to Fostex, is using an Etherlink cable and an FTP. A USB/Firewire interface is expected "soon." I can transfer files off the DV824 but not onto. Error say simply "can not write file." All discs are unprotected. Fostex USA is a bit stumped and Fostex Japan hasn't gotten back to me yet. Maybe someone on the group has figured out the solution. D.

I know that there are other mixers who are using this machine. Mine is now fully integrated into my system although I have yet to record a picture with it. The next project will be the "acid test." But I am finding some, let's say, peculiaities, with the machine; some of which I have come up with good work-arounds for and other that still have me a bit baffled. I would like to have a forum, either here if Jeff thinks it has merit, or somewhere else where the growing number of on-set users, and the post folks who handle the DVD-RAMs from these recorders could talk about potential issues before they ruin an otherwise perfectly good catered breakfast. Anyone else? To…
