Been looking at the 702t, Tascam, and the like for a backup machine. Then it occurred to me might as well join 'em. I've always used PC's. If I use boom recorder, for instance. So the Deva goes down (hopefully not) I guess I would need a seperate tc generator right? Deneke has one in my budget. Who is using what as a firewire interface? I'm sure this has been covered, so bear with me. Thanks, Larry

Refresh my memory, anyone using this or other Cf based machines. I would rather have a toenail pulled out than buy a DAT so I'm seiously considering the 702t and the EZDigiMagicâ„¢DM220-D08 with some 2 gig cards as my back-up. So many choices... Larry

Forgive me if this topic has been discussed somewhere else before. Just went thru the SD 744t manual, and I am still cofused as to what the difference is between the two formats. I could probably forge a guess, but need to know exactly which one I should be using and what the difference is. Also, another question came to mind today: are you guys generally running in free run time code or 24 hour time code? Thanks for any help -Greg-

Hi all, Anyone have experience recording audio on a Nagra IV SJ recorder. As you know, this particular model was intended for scientific measurement and it records "direct" to tape, without inserting emphasis/deemphasis at record/playback, -theoretically- having excessive tape hiss because of that. I'd like to know about any real experience with it, or well founded comments. It was used a lot to record subsonic sources like very low freq elephant talk, high frew insect calls, traffic rumble studies, etc. It's freq resp was 2,5Hz to 35kHz, and DC to 4kHz on the central FM channel. Thank you in advance, Fernando

I'm curious to see what these look like. There's not alot of information about these online. Does anyone use these with their microphones?

I own 4 UCR 411A's 2 blk 22 and 2 blk 24. Whenever I scan the frequencies, I noticed that the the recievers within any of my blocks show a different pattern, or same pattern but different interferance strength. Am I mistaken in assuming that both recievers within the block should show identical data? All the settings are the same. What is going on here? Bartek

I live in South Africa and shoot mainly low budget tv shows (magazine/culture/lifestyle/youth etc), and the occasional documentary or corporate gig. For a long time Ive been making do with rental gear and amateur gear, but the gear is unreliable and makes ME look unreliable too. So Im trying to put together my own kit with the money Ive saved from the jobs Ive been doing. What I already got is: 1 x Sennheiser 416p48 with Rycote Softy and Pistol Grip 1 x Oktava MK-012 with foam cover (havent needed anything more for the interiors Ive done). Shock mounting is with the Pistol Grip (416 and Oktava have same diameter) 1 x Sennheiser HD212pro Headphones 1 x Lightwave …

Hi all, Another question. I'm going to pick up a couple of Listentech Rx and a Tx to test out (I'm really trying to get everything in my kit on AA instead of 9V) and was wondering which frequency area was recommended...72 or 216? My current Comtek Tx's are in the 72 range, so I was leaning that direction, but was wondering if anyone had experience that said 216Mhz is better. Thanks again to everyone for all the info here...I appreciate it. Phil

The HD shoot i start in a couple of weeks, will not have any downconverting on set for monitors. They will have a few HD monitors for those who want/need to see. So the LCD on my cart won't be much use. I was wondering if it was possible to watch the video feed through my Laptop somehow ? Anyone know of any program that could accomplish this ? (I use a g4 powerbook) Or does anyone know of a cheap way for me to downconvert the HD picture for my LCD ?

Jeff, not sure if you want this here or under manufacturer's, though I have no tie to Countryman other than I've recently had a great experience with them I wanted to share... I recently picked up a used B6 (used only once and and only on Sunday by a little old lady in Pasadena....yeah, we've all heard it...) but it was a good deal, not stolen (I had the serial number checked) and so I picked it up (really good deal...$120). So, I took it into Countryman (they're about 10 minutes from my house up here) to get it re-plugged and tested. I also purchased one of their nifty pouches (since it came with no accessories). In 10 minutes, they tested it, re-plugged it, and ga…

I don't know if I will do wireless hops back to camera just yet, but I think I should buy accordingly. I think LA is 21, 22, 28? Not sure. Can someone enlighten me please. So Receiver bag only - which block based on experience? Transmitter/Receiver - Block 28 for receivers and lower blocks for transmitters? What lectro series are you using for camera sends?

Possibly off topic (but since I started the topic, maybe okay, may be of interest). I attended a hands on demo today of a 3D video camera that has been built using 2 Panasonic HD camcorders. The CCD imaging creates a raw data stream, actually 2 independent but synced data streams that are recorded to 2 highly modified inside the camera Mac Minis. The DV tape transports have been completely removed and all recordings are made of the raw uncompressed data (similar to the much larger and more complex Viper camera) to onboard hard drives. Anyone interested can read more about this at: http://www.21stcentury3d.com/press/pr-060117-3dvx3.html Regards, Jeff Wexler

Haven't had my recorder very long, and yesterday was the first cold and wet day I had it out. After a little while the screen went blank. Audio still went through and I managed to still record for the rest of the day, But i obviously couldn't make any changes (menu was invisible) and I'm still not sure if timecode stayed synced. Going to have a fun couple of hours sorting through the files. Dried it off as best as I could, and left it overnight. This morning I get half a screen. I admit it got a little wet in my bag, but my 442 and lectro wireless have seen far worse. Anyone else experience this ? I'm gonna put in a call to the good folks in Wisconsin tomorow to see about…

This is mainly in regards to a post I read where I think Jeff W mentioned something about removing his schoeps mics (and maybe some others) from set while a lot of loud explosions were going on: I guess my question is: is that really true? There's a lot I don't know about electronics in general - but can you really damage a mic is not in use but is located on a set with a lot of loud things happening? Now I don't go around dropping my microphones, but what would really be the difference between damage to a mic from exposure to loud explosions, and say having the mic in a pelican case that sits in the back of a bouncy pick-up truck? -greg-

Apparently Loon Audio is a new Montana company that showed some boom poles at NAB. Can anyone who is at NAB comment on the quality/price ratio of Loon's product in relation to Ambient, K-Tek etc?

Hi All, could you please suggest to me a good dialogue mic for use in small to medium sized room locations. Would like a rich/warm sounding mic. At present using a ME66 but not too happy with the results. Thanks in advance for any advice

Howdy All, Posting for a friend who is doing a doc where he will need to set up a bunch of people with their own mic/recorder combos. He is thinking of giving each person an m-audio microtrack with a lav. Has anyone used it like this? I assume the lavs will need their own power supplies. Does the microtrack have an auto level setting? Can it be relied on like this? Thanks for any advise. Tom Any low cost alternatives?

I went to a seminar last night where Pierre Blanc of Sonosax was demonstrating their latest products. Their new MiniR82 recorder caught a few people's attention. However, it was noted that while it featured a built in t/c generator and a t/c input so that it could be jammed, it did not have a timecode output that one could use to jam slates, etc. When I asked Pierre why this was the case, he responded that Sonosax is under the assumption that most Production Sound departments use either a Denecke or Ambient Master Clock and therefore this feature is not necessary. Personally, I do use a Denecke Master clock, but that is a very new addition to my package and was …

I’ve run into a couple of problems with the Hawk-Woods power distribution system when used with Lecrtosonics wireless mics, wondering if anyone else has had the same. The first was when powering an SD442, Lecrtosonics receivers (any type) and Lectrosonics 400 series transmitters. This was for a series I outfitted that was shot on an aircraft carrier. When we were setting up the gear one of the soundmen, Gabe Monts, noticed right away that the signal to noise was terrible on the 400 series when used as camera hops. They were OK when battery powered but terrible when powered by the Hawk-Woods. We were told by Lectrosonics that the grounding circuitry was differe…

Opinions? I'm thinking about this or a cooper 106. I've used a cooper for the past 11 years now I need to purchase a board.
