  1. Man, I'm hoping that's photoshop trickery... If not- that must be one tall mixer!
  2. Jeff- FYI there are a number of record players that play 78's... Here's a couple: Vestax CM-01 http://tinyurl.com/2ep3cnz Ion LP2CD http://tinyurl.com/29h67z6 (this one even transfers the music to CD for your car!) John
  3. Anyone know the main difference between their Loon pole & their Penta pole? (Other than the price, of course!). John
  4. I have a possible upcoming job starting on Wednesday, which would entail using at least a 4-channel mixer in a bag (ENG/Run&Gun - 2 lavs on talking heads & either a boom or 2 more lavs on guests/talent)... I currently use a Wendt X3, which works quite well for most everything I've done to date (Indy flicks). I know the different mixer options (SD 442, SD 552, Wendt X4, PSC AlphaMix) but I have a couple of questions: 1) If I rent a mixer - should I rent the Wendt X4, since I'm familiar with the layout, or go with the SD 442 since it is the preferred mixer? 2) If I rent - who's the closest to Boise, ID that can ship the quickest? If I buy a mixer I know I'll appreciate the 442 for a longer period - so I guess I'll post a WTB in the appropriate section. TIA - John Moore
  5. What about using dummy plugs for the sections not in use? That way you're more assured that the connection is sealed. John
  6. Dan Hicks is one of my favorite bands (I have all of their catalog). I love his version of Tom Waits' "The Piano Has Been Drinking (Not Me)" from his "Beatin' the Heat" LP... Oh, yeah- he as a new album out & he is on tour right now: http://www.danhicks.net, but it looks like Whitefish, Montana is as close to Boise, Idaho that he's going to get (rats!). John Moore
  7. Couldn't you use right-angle jacks or adapters for the BNC? I don't think there's a right-angle version of the Hirose power socket, but I've found that mine has held up rather well. I don't use the 744T (yet!), I use a Fostex FR2 with a Wendt X3... I made a pair of right-angle XLR connectors between the FR2 & the X3 to make things fit in the Sonic case bag that I use (kind of tight for the FR2, which is huge). John
  8. Andy- I checked out BTX... their prices are quite a bit more expensive than Markertek- they must be nice people! John
  9. I usually buy my connectors, bulk cable, etc. from Marketek: http://www.markertek.com/Cables-Connectors-Adapters/Audio-Connectors/XLR-Connectors/Switchcraft-Corporation/TA3MX.xhtml?TA3M Prices are decent, they have just about everything (including Hirose 4-pin!), and their in-stock items shipping time is great. 10. Jan- when you're ready to retire your older one let me know... I'm happy with the one I bought from you, but I'm always ready to upgrade! John Moore
  11. I have attempted to pick up parts I've needed at Rat Shack at least once a month for the last year- to no avail... Every time I leave the store empty handed I say to myself that I won't be back- unless I need a phone! John Moore "I give my self such good advice, but rarely do I take it." - Alice in Wonderland
  12. Quoted/snipped/modified: "You can call for less government all you want, but government is the only thing that can force companies to treat" us as individuals with the right to protection... we have the FDA mainly because companies (read: corporations) were selling weight-loss products that were tapeworms in a bottle! John Moore (Okay- maybe this belongs in the "Society, Politics, and the Planet" forum, but I couldn't not reply!)
  13. Matthias- I would assume so, since it is here in the USA.
  14. Update: I went back today to look at the AND-500 & it is a diversity antenna system... You can install up to 3 antenna's (intended for roof-mount vehicle antenna's) and the unit will draw from the strongest signal. I'm not sure that it is the most necessary addition to a cart system, though. John
  15. Dave- I'd have to go back & take a look at the manual for the AND-500... If I recall, it is a diversity antenna system. I'm thinking I should go ahead & pick up both of the units ($20 each) and then I can offer the antenna system here if I can't use it. I like to support this local resource... I've found some amazing old technology for next to nothing (most recently a Sony PVM-8041Q monitor & heavy-duty case for $15!). John
  16. I saw the ePrey auction for the $9.99 rig & this is the same gear, plus the AND-500 antenna. $30 (with $20 shipping!) for that kit sounds fine... the local shop is asking $20, and then I'd have to ship it to you... so, maybe a better deal via the auction. I'm thinking I might go ahead & pick up the local sale for my cart-in-progress, since there are a bunch at auction.
  17. Dan- did you find the tuner you needed? I found a Sony XTV-8(A) 12v mobile TV tuner & an AND-500 antenna system in a local tech recycle shop... Let me know if this might work for you. John Moore
  18. After seeing this video: http://autos.aol.com/article/ford-transit-connect-video/ I'd think the Transit Connect offers some excellent solutions for keeping track of your gear: "Tool Link" & a pretty cool "Work Solutions" computer... I'm thinking about selling the wagon! John

    Zoom R16

There are a couple of posts regarding the R16 here: http://jwsound.net/SMF/index.php?topic=4213.0 http://jwsound.net/SMF/index.php?topic=4857.msg36122#msg36122 John Moore
  20. Might it be the Ford Transit? This one happens to be the 2010 battery electric van Ford announced for the end of the year: http://green.venturebeat.com/2009/11/02/ford-drops-smith-picks-up-azure-for-all-electric-van-batteries/ John Moore NOTE: I just re-read your post "not from Germany, OR the USA" (missed that part, eh?)... Still- could be a nice van!
  21. I just spent a week with Calico Cooper, Alice Cooper's daughter, on a low-budget location shoot in a dirty barn... And while she may not be as broadly educated as Mr. Lundgren, she was the hardest working, friendliest actor I've met to date (okay- I haven't met too many up here in the hinterlands of Boise, Idaho... but you get my drift). At the end of the shoot I told her to give my compliments to her parents for raising a great daughter, since I'm always the old man on the set. Definitely not what I expected from a celebrity's child! John
  22. I found a neat little stacking holder for my lavs: Each section is about 1" tall by 2-3/4" wide... I found them in the fishing tackle section of my local big box grocery/all-in-one store (Fred Meyers). John Moore http://sound.flyingmonkeystudio.com
  23. Hoping not to hijack the thread... I have the K-102CCR internally cabled pole with the side-exit XLR. Does anyone know if one of the K-TEK extensions will work with this pole. It seems to me that I could remove the bottom bumper portion & the extender would fit without having to worry about the internal cable. I realize that the extensions are a bit spendy, but it would still be less than picking up a new pole. John Moore (I'm also emailing this request to the manufacturer, in case anyone is concerned that I'm being lazy!) UPDATE: I got this from K-Tek, in case anyone else is interested... The extensions will work but you will have the XLR coming out the side where it sits now and then you would need to wrap a cable from that point down the extension. All the Best,Karen Daley K-TEK I'll probably go ahead & pick up an extension, rather than having to buy a new longer pole.
  24. I have a DR-07, which only has analog in- so I could use that... Now I'm kind of regretting selling the Sony PCM-D50, except that I sold it to buy the FR-2.
  25. Jon, thanks for the input... I'm not sure the Microtrack is what I really want- I'm just thinking I'd like to have an inexpensive bit box as a backup. I had a file error on one of my CF cards & might have lost the ADR I picked up before the actress went back to L.A.! I'm working on recovering the card files right now.
