    Schoeps MiniCMIT or DPA 4017b

I think it does add some small amount of noise but I don’t notice it. It also boosts the output a bit.

Yup I’m also a Cut60 fan. Perfect filter and doesn’t add much length or weight.

    That’s a good point.

    Schoeps MiniCMIT or DPA 4017b

Yeah I like having it available on the mic. I had a scenario once trying to record dialog in a room that had some massive HVAC equipment on the other side of the wall where a CUT1 filter was the only fix because the extreme low freqs were overloading the CMC5 preamp before it even reached my recorder. But in most situations cutting HPF at the mixer works as well.

You guys don’t miss the low cut on the mmp-c?

    IFB question for the masses

There’s a few issues at play here I’d say. One, do you really think the DP will be able to charge extra for his SR? If so that’s a little shitty for him to dip into your sand box. OR does he really just want a clean feed without RF interference for sake of monitoring? If so, just get an additional Comtek receiver for the DP to wear on his belt. Problem solved. The interference may be so bad on the camera body that the SRa would be taking hits as well. My SRb has trouble with certain camera/video transmitter combos. A Comtek would be the worst in this scenario though. G3s are a step up from Comteks on camera but can also get whacked by camera interference. Nothing is totally immune to the ever increasing amount of RF gak the camera rigs are putting out. More reason to just do dual system. If the G3 is working fine you could look into Sennheiser G3 IEM receivers for client monitoring. (EK300). They have the headphone amp built in. Good luck, it can be a delicate balance making all these devices play nice while making the various personalities involved happy.

    Lavs for ties

The tie knot rig... we do it all the time and it often sounds mediocre. I guess this is a two part post. One: what’s your favorite lav for mounting in a tie knot? That is, up near the throat, pointing down. For example, at some point I remember reading that someone really liked Sennheiser MKE2s in ties. (Robert Sharman maybe?) Two: lav designers/manufacturers... why not consider making a special lav just for tie knot rigs? Something small and with a well designed sound to compensate for the generally terrible sound that the tie knot placement produces. I know lavaliers are not generally designed for stuffing in a tie right under a guy’s chin but that’s what we’re doing with them. Thanks.

    Lavs for ties

By a special lav I’m thinking something along the lines of the DPA 4071 which was purpose built for chest mounting under clothes. Something that has a natural EQ curve to correct for the weird placement under the chin.

    COS-11D or DPA 6060

Maybe you received some old stock DPAs. Mine are pretty soft. I really think they do need the cable conditioning for whatever reason. Which is annoying. I’ve seem a lot of older DPAs with stiff cables.

    COS-11D or DPA 6060

No one knows. The 6060s have only been available to beta testers so far.

DPA slim cable getting stiff and brakes

They suggest conditioning them with olive oil once and awhile.

    URSA mini mount

Is it very smooth? Does it make any noise with fabric rubbing against it? I tried the hide-a-mics and found that with certain fabrics there was an awful hollow plastic scratching sound. The metal wire concept that the DPA concealer uses seems to work more often than not.

I think it’s an upgrade part.

    DPA 3mm lav mic

So I want to know if these will work with Sanken accessories and mounts.

    And a VNA is what?
  17. If for whatever reason you want to stick with starquad Belden 1804A is a good one and way thinner than the Canare mini star. Nice durable jacket too. Like it was made for TA connectors.

    charging NP-1's from DC? Solar?

http://www.westmountainradio.com/product_info.php?products_id=epic-pwrgate Look into this device. I don’t have personal experience with it but you could in theory create a custom charging program that your NPs would be happy with. Would require some extra research, cable making and leg work on your part but could be just the thing. Also accepts a PSU input so you could have it switch over to an AC power supply when AC is available. I think the way way it works is it pulls from whichever source (battery or PSU) has the higher voltage and also keeps your battery charged via solar or the PSU input.

    New IFB system

I would not want to be using a whole bunch of Duets on set mostly because they eat through batteries. About 6 hours on lithium AA and about 4 hours on rechargeables. Great for boom ops though.

    Comtek BST-25/216 on battery power?

A trick I learned from Ron Meyer.. put a diode in line inside the XLR to knock the voltage down a volt or so.

New wireless TX deviation rules October '18

Are you going to mark the newer 50kHz units somehow on the label?
  23. Not sure combing pin 2 & 3 on the ring is correct. With the TA3 outputs I think you’d just leave pin 3 floating.

    Chicago rental shops

Have a Lemo to BNC cable? Then just get an off the shelf 3.5mm, strip it and hot wire your tentacles. Should only need a few moments of contact to jam.
