So sorry to hear that, Jeff.

Yamaha DM3-D 22-channel digital small format mixer with Dante
Jim Rillie replied to LoganSound's topic in Equipment
Sounds like 12v parallel. For 24v they would need to be in series. -
I don’t think we have had Constantin’s issues with the K art. I am thinking the outputs are not regulated and anything works as if it was getting whatever the main batteries feeding the K art have voltage wise . Generally we used V lock Blueshape batteries with adapter plates cabled to the K art. Our K art Still works well, one of the on lights burned out. it’s nott in use theses days due to working with much smaller carts than we used to. Even our biggish cart doesnt need it with a PSC 12 pack which has lots of Dc distribution built in.

My headphone level is -27 normally with HD 25s on the mini, occasionally lower about -30. I think it is about the same on X3 but it’s a while since I needed the larger track count.

I am a Canadian Production Sound Mixer. The last feature documentary I did was in 2017/2018. ( I mostly do narrative Tv series) The rate which was a fair Canadian rate those days was about $450 euros per day including equipment. What you are being offered seems a bit low by today’s standards, considering the cost of living, maintaining and updating equipment , etc. now versus then., but within reason for a lower budget production.

Agreed. Sounds like race to the bottom. I have done this many times but it was for reasons like getting a performance from children, new actors who weren’t familiar with the process and may have clammed up if we used the usual professional filmmaking process - not because the director didn’t know what he/she was doing. From now on if I hear 50/50 …

My experience with QTake is pretty much the same as Patrick Farrell’s. I would rather create my own metadata than have to accept what works for some other dept. Another benefit of the QTake system our operator works with is the ability to send me a multi cam reference on one SDI cable - a more direct version than the wifi QTake feed for iPads with only the same latency as the Camera feeds. And PMC, Iam not familiar with “shooting 50/50. What does that mean?

Simple 3D printed low profile end caps for Neutrik XX connectors
Jim Rillie replied to soundmanjohn's topic in Do It Yourself
I guess you could reverse twist the cable approximately the number of turns required and screw it in. Not ideal but probably workable. -
Thanks for the reminder, Whitney, and thanks Jeff for managing JWsound it is important for all of us who can to support this unique website. The last bastion of intelligent and helpful discourse about production sound. Best regards, Jim Rillie geriatric PSM

I am interested in this question as well. As a Lectro and Wisy user, I have always tried to avoid the limiters on transmitters. (Yes, I know Lectro advises this is not the way), but it works for me. I prefer to limit later in the recording chain, if really necessary where I have live visual cues on the signal path, and of course better limiters, but maybe I am overly cautious.

It's Atomos that bought Aaton Digital for what appears to me to be a ridiculously small sum. The staff didn't come with the deal, we'll see what happens. I think that info came from Adam Sanchez.

Hi Matthew, Pins 2 and 3 of the Female 3 pin XLR input on the power supply should be like you measured (unloaded about 50v is OK.) The mic plugs in to this connector. The normal input for a mic signal is Female, so the 48v should not be present. If I remember correctly some Nagra IIIs had a male input and needed an adapter to work with a normal XLR cable, or a female to female cable.

No, I'm just using the Lectro dipole board as a place to clip on the wisy TX . Maybe this will help clarify what I mean. Top right corner of photo. This was a cute photo I sent to the Zuca Sound Cart group. I call it the Zuca Parking Lot. The arrangement on the mast Looks weird but it works well.
-
Never used the mini mite, but did use the big Phase Right antennas for years. Similar performance to the Miracle whip. It's just a tuned dipole. Anecdotal evidence only. I use an MTP 40 and line input cable (with the whip antenna) clipped on to the miracle Whip board (middle of mast oriented in the nulls of the fins )with the fins on the ends.Does the make sense? works for us.
-
Yup. I generally use BST75 216 for the bourgeoisie (video village) feeds with Miracle whip transmit antenna. Usually as good range or better than my talent wireless SSMs and MTP61s, but not as good range as Wisycom IFBs.
-
What transmitter antenna are you using, and is the transmitter a BST 75 216? Good antenna to Tx cable?
-
We (my company) will continue using our Cantar minis and X3 until they are pried from our hands, or until some manufacturer comes out with something as good sounding, that handles dynamics as well, and is as intuitive to use (once you are used to the way), includes easily readable sound reports, and is as configurable etc etc I know, this is all just opinion, but there are quite a few of us out there that feel the same way, I think.

I think those o rings were for isolation - the upper part sit on the rings so the spacers don't touch each other

I will try to find a source tonight after work. This collaboration happened in the 60s I believe. This was not an employer/ employee relationship, more of a collaboration of engineers with similar interests. OK, I can't find any references to Kudelski and Beauviala. Must have been something I heard or read without verification. I will delete the original post.

Wow! Sounds like troll talk. I haven’t read such vitriolic nonsense for a long time.
-
I would think. yes, but they are solid and not as handy for exterior use as the usual suspects LPDAs which are a bit open and less susceptible to wind shear. Also Why? 2 are probably more expensive than 2 regular shark fins...

AFAIK, You can change polarity on input, or in the receiver (with Lectro anyways).

Thanks, Karl, i'll check it out. Some of their frequencies do have 4 more digits after the 453 etc etc. but that's good to know. Best, Jim
