  1. You can make the cable for it pretty easy as well. Just keep in mind that the trim pots are very small and on the side. So it will be a "set it and forget it" situation with anything you decide to run into the Return jack. Choose your gain structure wisely!
  2. You are probably rounding up, but you can get it for 51c a foot! double it up!
  3. I think it looks nice. But unfortunately would not last, is probably stiff and in the end cost as much as some star quad bulk :. Still can't knock DIY stuff, always fun to do.
  4. I think I'll also give an update with the batteries I went with. I ordered 2 of these http://www.paulcbuff.com/vmb88a.php and 2 of the chargers as well. They charge up to about 16.6 volts and they have a cutoff at 11v. I am able to power a nomad 8 with Zaxnet on, a QRX100 and charge my phone all day off one battery and get it to maybe 13v (according to the nomad display). I mean all day, I only power off during lunch generally. Each battery being <90 bucks and chargers at <25 dollars I could not be happier. So far I have used them on easily 60 full days of shooting with no sign of memory loss. They charge pretty fast (maybe 4 hours) are relatively light weight and fit perfectly inside the back flap of my PEGZ1 bag. The connectors for the battery are cheap and easy to terminate so I made a few. If nothing else would be a good inexpensive backup battery to have on hand for your NP1 setup or whatever else you are using. -Chase
  5. I had the same issue, What solved it is I accidently had one TX's TC jam mode set to Manual instead of Auto-load. This solved it for me. It's in the extended menu but I'm sure you figured that out! I use 2 trx900LAs going into a QRX in dual mode. I have had really great results honestly. I just finished a 2 week shoot where i only had drop outs for one of the days (RF jungle downtown LA). Otherwise I have had these suckers blast through 2 brick walls to an alley a good 100 feet away (at 50 mw). I generally use them on power roll as well. Also just for reference I get this performance with my nomad's IFB output maxed, a G2 TX 3" from the QRX sending a mono scratch track and a comtek TX 3" from the QRX. And I will say my experience has been that of Rado's and everyone else praising Zax. The workflow has changed drastically for me. If anything the relief of stress alone knowing I have backup recorders on each TX foots the bill. The audio quality is superb and I really can't fault anything about my Zax gear (well actually the soft plastic screen overlay's are annoying). So all in all i just can't wait to get my hand on another set of Zax wireless.
  6. Yeah, I remember the audio sounding a bit... Rough... I'll be leaving now.
  7. I have been using this stuff like crazy this summer. Was buying it from pharmacy stores for about 6 dollars a pack of 2 rolls until I checked Amazon. Just wanted to pass on the deal to you guys. Stock up! http://www.amazon.com/3M-Transpore-Tape-10-Box/dp/B000K3HSIO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1344024377&sr=8-1&keywords=transpore Stay cool~ Chase
  8. Well I use a BDS4for bag power and that has a power switch for all the goodies hooked up. Or am I missing your point?
  9. You could take a gigantic peice of heat shrink and fit it around your ERX, then just slice out the batter door and display haha. hmmm...
  10. One thing that really stood out to me is the absence of spectators. I'm guessing that production made a concious effort to keep people off the sidewalks and out of the shots where the driving was happening? Mostly for safety reasons I suppose.
  11. Yeah but obviously keep in mind that a well placed crappy lav will still sound better (generally) than a crappily placed great lav. But in a side by side comparison in perfect conditions It is my opinion that they are not worth 100$ Though it is nice when you get them for free with new lectro stuff because you then at least have a backup incase there is a failure.
  12. It's just sound quality. They are ok if your just a student, or youtuber doing pranks. The difference in quality between those and say, sankens or dpa's, is night and day.
  13. Actually I prefer the stock senn lavs to the stock lectro ones. But to be honest, go with oscar sound tech lavs if your on a ($100 ish) budget, those are fantastic for the price. http://www.oscarsoundtech.com/
  14. Yeah rado is really active here and in vegas, he'll probably chime in soon.
  15. http://www.apptrav.com/black-oven-mitt.jpg Only when its really hot!
  16. Phasing is occuring when you have multiple sources being recorded to one track. So say you have boom on ch1 and just 2 lavs on ch2. Think of the mouth of the person speaking as one point in a triangle, lav1 ans another point and lav 3 as another point. It takes a different amount of time for mouth, to reach lav1 than lav2 (different length sides of triangle) therefore his voice is being recorded twice on one track at a different phase. This is probably the most simple instance also, it gets far more complicated with more mics onto a single track.
  17. I'm not sure of your actual budget. But for about 8.5k (US) you could get a lectro venu, 6 VRS modules and 6 LMa's. Which is probably the best bang for your buck.
  18. If for use outdoors i think full basket is the way to go. The BBG will keep wind from hitting the capsule effectively, but it does not stop the whooshing and whistling noise the wind makes flying through the exposed suspension.
  19. I hope production payed to clean the blood off the van. Did the van get to damaged in this? Good thing that disposable person was in the way to stop most of the damage.
  20. TBH if i was working in vegas and something went missing my first thought would be theft. Better to assume theft and proactively try to recover something then assume you misplaced it and waste time imo!
  21. from what i understand on the hvx 24pn is true 23.976, so you would record 23.976. So verify with the post team they are recording in 720p, 24pN. Ifthey are recording at anything like 1080/60i 720/60i etc.. then they would be using either 24P or 24 PA which is different. But still verify what post wants.
  22. I felt the same way being first spoiled by how G3's treated AA's and my lectros eating 9v's for breakfast. I am content with running 125mw on my TX with rechargables and swap out batteries once a day. I personally have not tried a Lithium battery with my LA's yet.
  23. I have none of these issues either (was freezing, fixed long ago woth firmware). Got it in january. The only issue i have with my zaxcom products is how soft the plastic covering the screen is. One wipe with your finger to clear dust or sand and a million hairline scratches (only had to make this mistake once, the first day i used it on a shoot). If you get one olease cut out like a smartphone screen protector and stick it on first. I would like to say this is something you would probably not find out about by calling the manufacturer and asking " give me a rundown of all your products shortcomings". So i support asking end user their experience with specific products.
