  1. At risk of stating the obvious - why use a keyboard? And call sound devices direct
  2. Rob, these are some of the reasons I always record to a hard drive/CF card - if the camera dept decides to fiddle with the Rx (maybe move it with telling me) - or "bumps" the taped down settings then I know I have the master copy that is 100%. IMO it's often better to take this path (of less resistance) than argue with the cam op (especially if it's a shooter producer).
  3. Pls remember that to the AC the DP is god. Their murmur is a command. If you have explained the consequences to taking the Lockit off then quite frankly it's their problem. If you need to cover ass then make it clear what bus happening to the AD or producer. I was only asking myself "why timecode was the sound departments problem" earlier this week.
  4. Depends how collectable (where it's been, who used it, who it recorded) IMO, anyway. I had opportunity to buy (at almost scrap metal price) a music console that had started in the UK - some Beatles stuff before it found its way to Australia; then loads of amazing Oz bands. I was going to buy it to turn it into a glass topped coffee table (yes) until I was told exactly how big and how heavy it was and realized I couldn't fit it in my upstairs apartment. Still wish I had bought it.....
  5. Can I get cables frequency certified ? - as we all know LF travels slower than HF - and I don't want frequency phasing due to poor time alignment.
  6. I charge these over night - the led goes from red to green when done. No over charge issues but I haven't left if on charge for longer than over night. I have run them until the Zaxcom Rx shuts off - then swapped out - again with out killing the battery. At $20 these are consumables - so you can have a spare if one stops working. They are LSD so you can keep them charged and ready to go.
  7. Seems a very large generalization.... and perhaps more to do with personal taste than what is actually going on.... if you dig a little bit there is great new music happening
  8. Would be too simple as he needs to use all six inputs. I would use my 788 - rather than wishing my 633 was something it's not. If you feel you have to persist with 633 solution it's unplug and plug in the return.
  9. Or, I knew it was true - because it wasn't in the newspapers (I quote a UFOlogist)
  10. Normally if you set levels manually this turns the AGC off; there may or may not be a limiter that is always engaged.
  11. In my dream the bag isn't corporate looking.....
  12. Sport is life - it reinvigorates us for our work and non-work life. I had an unexpected afternoon on beautiful early season snow and I'm now ready for the second half of the year And it's only an hour until Le Tour starts!
  13. My Brain is Hanging Upside Down!!!! Made my drive to location today that much more fun
  14. Very sad day - though I thought all the brothers had passed. It will be a more serious boring work with them gone. I've put a "hits" list together to listen to on the way to location today; which one to play first - Sheena, blitzkrieg bop, the KKK..., Rock away beach..... BTW I saw a great Doco on the band - and loved the stories they told of the their early days - college/work/drugs or the band Vale!
  15. I have both (perc apron and the poncho) - I was given the poncho as part of a deal when I bought a bag. I have never used the poncho in the rain (only tried it out for size [emoji1]) - if there is any chance of rain I have the apron with me every time. I find the poncho too big, too hard to work under and generally too hot. If the rain is more than the apron can handle I get out of the rain or use an umbrella; but I get that opinions vary about what is more comfortable.
  16. Just for laptop, NP1 batteries and accessories when I fly. The mixers and everything else goes in pelican cases.
  17. Something similar to the PD337 - a mate has one in blue -so guess it's the previous model. Might be the PCTB-3. I'm after something that has wheels, storage (now that li-ion batteries have to go as carry on when I fly) and will fit in airline carry-on specs. I believe pelican is about to release a light weight case that fits this bill. Thx
  18. Captions are often used for dramatic impact in reality as much as they are to make more clear what is being said.
  19. Thx Crew for getting to the bones of the matter - I was struggling to work out where to start.
  20. Good to see the rain apron is back. Hope orca brings back the wheelie sound bag
  21. This sounds promising http://www.iflscience.com/technology/new-dual-carbon-battery-charges-20x-faster-lithium-ion
  22. These last all day; light weight and low profile. Just Velcro on to the Zax Rx - charge over night.
  23. It's a $70 piece if kit- judge its life span from that
  24. From Australia you definitely need a visa to be there legally, even if you are working for a production company from your home country. From the UK it may be different - but it's all been tightened up since Sept 11. I have done a lot of stuff in the US and Canada for Australian prod cos and the usual visa was an"I Visa" and used to be valid for five years; it was a "journalist" style visa. Last time I got one it was quite a performance - appointment needed to be prebooked - paid for - with required forms, photos and supporting letters documents with you on the day. Then a wait of a week (maybe more) to collect your passport with the new visa stuck in it. The production company should definitely be putting together for you And a carnet is the only way to bring your gear into and out of the USA.
