  1. Forgetting Sarah Marshall I can't stop myself from watching/laughing when I come across it.
  2. Hi Larry, The venue I use also "squares" before my 411s do. Would that mean the venue meter should be treated as a warning to a warning? :/
  3. They will not operate as passive. Call Lectro tech support. I forgot who I dealt with but he made a few 12db attenuator jumpers for me... for free. Lectro customer service wins again
  4. Hypershop.com has external batteries as well as cigarette adaptors for MacBooks. I've used both and have had no issues
  5. Did you use a meter to confirm 48v?
  6. See if you can box the action into certain areas and hide plants. It would be beneficial to the camera as well to "light" the specific areas as well(ie torch lamp or practicals).
  7. I didn't know you could adjust gain with the side knob. Good to know. *Note* The menu option to switch back and forth fader/trim becomes unavailable while you are rolling.
  8. When doing non union I had 2 different rates. The one I asked for and the one I got. Read the "art of negotiation" thread. Once I locked in a rate with a particular client I would generally adhere to that rate for most of their projects. When I'd get calls and I was told the rate is X if I felt it was to low I'd say "I normally get Y for this type of job" and negotiate from there. If I had more experience in the union world id probably try the same thing. In the first bit of conversation i try to put across my competence and experience. There are times when a client won't budge and there are times they're happy to have got someone on the phone and are willing to bend their budget. Good luck
  9. Maybe it was a sonic choice but the sentence that grabbed me was "...the clients own..." Methinks the choice was more than a creative one
  10. As was said, many interfaces accept midi or eucon already. How are you getting sound to BR? Update: I now use euphonix mc artist series with a uln8. No noticeable latency.
  11. Call Peter Schneider at Gotham. I know he's helped numerous people put together JoeCo rigs
  12. A POV to come from when discussing reality rates is that yes, the look is important but people are brought in by the characters and story which in this type of situation in dialogue driven. Cam ops typically listen to mix to know where to point the lens. In addition, I would often pfl to characters off camera and direct camera(who would trust/listen to me) if there was a bit of drama going on somewhere else. Letting production know this IMO shows that sound is not just a button monkey and gives a stronger platform for negotiations
  13. Had a noisy alexa on a shoot. It can display the rpm of the fan. It's self regulating and operates between 1000-1400 normally(according to an AC). The one with an issue we started out quiet but when it was getting loud the fan was about 3200rpm. The rental house sent a tech who cleaned the camera out. Took about 20 minutes to open it, blow the gunk out and rebuild it. Worked fine afterwards.
  14. I doubt they will sell the swivel as part of their product line unless enough people ask for them. As of now it's a custom order.
  15. Ive been in communication with Gefell regarding a swivel adaptor similar to the Schoeps gvc. It will cost 340€ or about $480 per piece. We've spoken price and I've sent them pictures of the GVC but that's it so far. I wanted to let JW members know about this option in case anyone else is interested. Please PM me if you are The person to contact is Michael Militzer M.Militzer@microtechgefell.de
  16. Hey Jeff, Was your feed to boom op at line level and his feed to you at mic level?
  17. "This on-line calculator provides you with the recommended amp-hour rating of your back up battery. In addition to using the information you provide, it considers derating factors such as capacity tolerance, battery life cycle, and run time relative to 20 hrs." http://www.westmountainradio.com/capacity_calculator.php?navcode=/batcalc
  18. Using maha 2700 nimh I change the battery at around 1.27. I would have 10-20 minutes of run time after that

    To Hop or not

It depends... If they have the budget, Ill do hops and record in the bag. If they dont have the budget, Im perfectly happy to hardline to the camera. My bag is lighter without the hops and/or recorder and I dont mind dancing with the ops. Many of us have and still do this on some reality shows, fashion week(what a pig f***), corporate events, etc If they want the hops only, I make a disclaimer and inform them of the potential issues(not being able to monitor camera, rf hits, etc. I also explain that no matter how conscientious the cam op is, they are focused on picture and its easy for audio mistakes to happen like bumped pots, camera mic switched on, getting only 1 channel etc). I push for a recorder in the bag. What I never do is "give it away". I will NOT put $5000 worth of wireless or a $4000 recorder or both on the shoot for free. Even if it makes my life easier or will create a better product or to cover my ass. I covered myself with the disclaimer and warning of potential issues, IN WRITING.
  20. Another mixer tipped me off to this program. It's a real asset to playback and spot check individual tracks in a poly file when using boomrecorder. I've set the computer to default to this program when opening .wav files and I find it to be efficient and quite useful.
  21. I have always gotten per diem when traveling regardless of production picking up meals or not. Per diem minimum is based on where you are shooting. I've generally gotten around $50/day but I think it was $78 in cambridge MA
  22. It's been a while since I've done them but I also ask for tone to the mult. the mixers always complied
  23. At the bottom of the page is the option for the full version. After clicking on it I can't find a way to gt back to the mobile view. What do I need to click to revert to this? Thanks
  24. The Boss pedal was used as an inline delay for the T4 to get sync for the director and 8 producers. It was the simplest option I found to delay the audio to match the wireless video lag that was battery powered and somewhat compact. It was a PITA but it worked.
  25. Cantar Venue Field 2 Lectrosonics 411a Lectrosonics T4 Boss delay pedal(guitar pedal) for ifb 8 SMA TX 2 NP1 This was a few years ago for MTV "the City". Like "The Hills". After 6 months my left foot gradually got more hurt. The mixer who took over after me herniated 2 discs in his back after 2 months. Not so fun
