I've attached a photo of the bench at the Pentagon September 11 Memorial dedicated to the memory of a member of the DC production community, Jerry Moran. Jerry worked as the shop manager at the Washington Source for Lighting and occasional freelance jib operator in the '90's. Ironically, he left the film production world to work for a teleconferencing contractor for the US Navy so he could have a more regular schedule and better job security in 1998 or so. He was working in wedge one of the Pentagon on the morning of September 11, 2001. I think of Jerry often, especially when I pass the Pentagon or Arlington National Cemetery, where Jerry's remains are inter…

Not sure if this could be a start of a cool thread or not. But I was working in an old local recording studio, apparently where, Prince penned Purple Rain. Anyways, when we walked into the control room this lovely, classic console was inside, and I was really impressed with how clean it still was. The head engineer said he couldn't pass it up, and says it sounds fantastic. What caught my eye, was the Channel section and the EQ switches(not knobs), with the ubiquitous Lexicon alongside, in it's familiar place on the desk. As we worked, I also discovered this EV 644 Sound Spot Shotgun mic. Curiousity peaked, I plugged it in, with their adapter cable, and she…

Nice fish-eye shot on the set of "Coming Home". No, that's not the crew sitting around smoking, drinking and gambling... actors in a scene when Sally (Jane Fonda) comes home to their house and Bob (Bruce Dern) has all his buddies over.

This is pretty amazing. The fact that the strings show spikes is confusing. Any thoughts?

So here's a trailer with lots of explosions. Not surprisingly, the film will be released in Georgia on a Sunday (June 5th).

This was by far my most challenging job to date. Three camera shoot. 778T/CL8, 9 wireless lavs, camera hop, IFB xmit, 2 NP1 batts for the bds and a mixpre. And the coil-y standing by for the boom. Gotta love "reality shows." One PA to share among camera, sound, and production. Two 14 hour days. Thank the good Lord it was only a two day shoot. Next weekend there will only be 4 talent. I think I'll put the rcvrs on the cameras, turn on AGC, and just change batteries. I think I heard someone say "What doesn't kill us makes us stronger."

This is my second modification to my PSC Sound Cart. I removed all PSC shelves except for the top and the handle level shelf which is the extended shelf. I bought two rack mount shelves for the recorders. 1 is 2 rack spaced and the other is 3 but 17" long so it extends to the back of the cart rails. It is an easy modification and rather inexpensive to do. 2 8' aluminum angle pieces cut to length. I put two pieces of the angle aluminum back to back so my rack rails are recessed. Keeps my equipment safe when transporting it. It stands a little less then 50". The version I had before stood 54" which was a bit two high. I might be able to cut it down a few more inches if I us…

So, I was reading an article on Yahoo this morning about the official website for the new Batman movie has some secret stuff hidden in it (right now it's a black screen that plays just some weird chant). They claimed that someone did a spectrum analysis of the chant and saw a secret message in the analysis. Of course, being the sceptic that I am, I had to do it myself, so I made a copy of the file from the Batman website, and ran it through a spectrum analyzer, and sure enough, saw it. I don't know how they did it, and I am in no way associated with the movie, but here it is :

I recently took some pictures of my old Sela mixer and thought some of you might be interested in seeing the complexity of my set-up from the early 1980's. Straight to 1 track - simple and sweet.

Because this is a Film Industry creation, and some of you might find this amusing, like we do, we created a Facebook page for a creation we started in 2009. It's started to get to decent size and his own personality. People, on set, were asking for a Facebook page, so we made one. This is what happens when you don't throw away the countless rolls of used paper tape from carpets. The Camera and other dept's have started to contribute, and he is growing fast! Hope you find this as funny as we do! Like it, if you're into it! http://www.facebook.com/pages/Tape-Ball/204779669542440?sk=wall Thanks!

Hey guys! These are some pictures of my first cart. It's a project that it's still in progress. The cart is custom made and it's displayed without the rack on. The material used is aluminum. It's very light and easy to handle. Also there's engraved my website internet address and in extend the info of the cart. (Material used, serial number, name of the owner, name of the maker). If anyone is interested in inquiring info about the price and availability his email is george@filmblades.com ( George Pantzis). Best regards, Marco

These guys really made a great product! Heard that this might have happened on "Brother and Sisters" when their camera truck caught on fire. Crazy how that camera still survives! http://www.facebook.com/pages/ARRI/75451039060?sk=wall

Last week I was suppose to do a commercial with a very complicated walk and talk for about 25 yards inside a large warehouse. So I bid the commercial as usual including a boom operator. I explained that a well placed shotgun along with the lav should provide excellent options in post. The 2 days before the job I was told audio was cut out of the commercial. The day of the shoot I get a picture sent to me by my make up friend gotta love it. A client is spending $50,000 on a commercial and the agency won't spend $1000.00 on sound. This isn't a national commercial but it will get major air time in the South East
