I picked here, instead of "Equipment"... ya' got a problem with that?? OK, no one took the bait about the new Sennheiser mic at NAMM, but that is OK, it is a fine new large diaphram studio mic. Sennheiser owns Neumann, remember... but no one has noticed that Shure had some exciting new stuff shown or announced at NAMM as another major wireless mic player goes fully digital: http://www.shure.com/americas/news-events/press-releases/shure-introduces-pgx-digital-wirelessthis is in the 900 MHz spectrum... and another form of "true diversity" is coming soon: Frequency Diversity, and it will also be smart: http://www.shure.com/americas/news-events/press-releases/shu…

Fellow Denizens, LSC is blowing out our remaining inventory of Ultralife 9v Lithium Batteries for only $2.95 ea. This is well below what we paid for them. This is all fresh stock and is fully covered by the manufacturers warranty. Unfortunately, the brand name has been damaged by poor quality control from the factory and we have decided to make a change. LSC has now switched over to Eveready 9v Lithium's. Contact your LSC Sales Rep at (818) 980-9891 to place an order. While supplies last. Thanks

Hello everyone! So, I've landed a new gig. I am now the new sales manager at K-Tek/M. Klemme Technology Corp. I am really excited to be working with Brenda and the rest of the fine folks at K-Tek, and getting sort of back to the production side of things, although it's now with manufacturing. Back in my product specialist days, I was always a big fan of K-Tek products, as well as a big fan of Manfred. I have many things on my plate right now, and one of them is starting up a facebook page. I literally just started it earlier this morning, so it's a bit of a work in progress, but I wanted to get the link out there for you folks. I would really like it if K…

The IFB option board for the QRX100 is now being manufactured. We expect to begin deliveries of the option board somewhere around the end of January. We are now beta testing the unit and the results are way beyond my expectations. Since the original feature set was announced we have now expanded it to include full Zax-net capability. This will allow for a single QRX100 with IFB option to be connected to a Deva or Fusion providing IFB transmission, time code transmission, wireless remote control and metadata transmission. This eliminates the need for a separate IFB100 transmitter to provide the same feature set. The QRX100 receives two separate mono or stereo tra…

The TRX900LTS two audio channel bodypack transmitter with recording and remote control will be featured at IBC. This is a two channel version of our new TRX900LT transmitter. It should open up many new possibilities for the use of wireless microphones in any application where a stereo image will help an audience feel they are in the middle of the action on screen. The unit features two microphone preamps with LAV power, two audio channel 100% digital RF transmission, Zax-net remote control and 2 channel recording with time code. The unit is a perfect match for the QRX100 2 channel receiver that can receive 4 channels of audio from two seperate TRX900LTS transmitters. …

This past weekend was AES in San Francisco. Over the years SD has been exhibiting at the show, we often left thinking that it was less and less relevant from a production sound perspective. NAB has always been the major U.S. show and AES tangentially hit on production sound. In fact, last year we sat out the NY show as an experiment. I have to say that this year seemed to be a different, and better type of show. It was also better because it was 3 days. While the show felt smaller than even last year's AES, the users we spoke with in San Francisco were quite confident in their work, looking forward to new projects and changes in tech and workflow. People didn't seem as…

but probably not for 'us folks' maybe "clever" ?? www.portamount.com developed and currently being marketed by a local soundie (695). At current MSRP $50 (your choice of harness not included), every wanna-bee moviemaker will have to have one. I can see the usual low-budget movie sources (B+H, Samy's, etc) selling one with almost every Zoom. one could rig wireless to carabiners on the harness for mic's and or hops... the model is a student (target market!)

A Discussion on the Future of Wireless Microphone Use It's recently been announced that wireless broadcast frequencies will soon be open to white space devices, this makes the future of wireless microphone use nothing like what has come before. Interference from computer-based devices utilizing white space spectra will greatly diminish the range and reliability of today’s analog FM wireless microphones. These new users will be broadcasting wide band digital data that will appear to analog FM wireless as an increased noise floor. While it will not decode into audio, it will limit the usable range of wireless microphones. The problem is that the number of new users…

After a nearly 10 year hiatus, we are going to bring back our PSC Digislate (documentary style bloop slate with scene and take numbers) We last sold these almost a decade ago. Well it seems that all the D5 and D7 users need a bloop slate once again. We cannot just re-release the old design as many of the parts are no longer available. So its time to start a new design. So far we have had requests for 2 digits, a bloop tone (both wired and an audible tone from the box itself) and so on. If you have any ideas on what you would like to see included in the design, please post you ideas here or email me at: ron at professionalsound dot com Thanks for any input…
