Unfortunately I primarily use Firefox, but yes, I see in IE the line vanishes when switching the "Tools> Compatibility" is switched on. Thanks, at least I know it's not something I'm doing.

Bias maker of Peak/Peak Pro, Sound Soap closes
Rick Reineke replied to Rick Reineke's topic in Current
This was Steve Berkley's (CEO and President, BIAS Inc.) comment in the Created Digtal Music forum on Thurs. June 7. http://createdigitalmusic.com/2012/06/bias-makers-of-peak-cease-operations-mac-audio-editor-alternatives/ "Greetings: We understand that many people are surprised at the closing of BIAS and have questions as to the reason why. Please understand that we are not at liberty to discuss those reasons in detail since they concern matters of individual privacy. However, the conduct of certain employees resulted in disruptive interpersonal relationships which damaged morale and interfered with high functioning at a time when market pressures required that the company perform at an optimum level. Despite the high quality of our products and team, the disruption contributed to a lack of sales and marketing effectiveness that was fatal to the company. Our products remain among the best in the industry, and we are exploring various avenues that we hope will result in our customers still receiving the benefit of the products they have valued in the past. We appreciate your past patronage as well as your patience and support as we move through this difficult period." Steve Berkley CEO and President, BIAS Inc. Member, Marin Audio Technology LLC -
Bias - the maker of Peak and Peak Pro and the noise reduction plug-in 'Sound Soup' closed shop. Peak was a well regarded audio editing software for the Mac platform. Apparently this just happened within the last couple of days. It can be confirmed by visiting the Bias website at: http://www.bias-inc.com. Which states: "BIAS, Inc. has ceased operations. We would like to thank all the BIAS customers and friends for the opportunity to have served the audio community for over 16 amazing years. The BIAS Authorization Manager Server is functioning for authorizing and de-authorizing BIAS products at this time."

The PFL is a joke, sort of. Back in my recording studio days, that was my common answer when band members and such always asked, 'What's PFL mean, on that button."
-
"And when you hear sound design fx and music scoring, they should be appropriately mixed to interact with the dialog" Unfortunately this has not been the norm in the last ten years or so. Just the opposite.. Not my preference.. Tony, you should have added 'PFL' to you glossary, which BTW stands for "Pretty F___ing Loud"

In Sony DVD Arc Pro 5.2; (latest build 135) the audio file need not be embedded in the Video, it just needs the same base 'file name' AND reside in the same folder as the video file(s) when importing to DVD Arc. So an <.ac3> 5:1 audio file from PTs or elsewhere should work.

Jeff, is it just me, or why do many of the pics have a thin white line though em'.

Best mic for location sound around Kart race track?
Rick Reineke replied to Jean Collot's topic in Equipment
As a former IKF Kart racer... Kart tracks can be very, very loud, especially the nationals with 30+ two-cycle karts per heat, double the engine count for the twin-engine classes. FYI: Power to weight ratio, equal to or more than an Indy car. The kiddie carts arn't much louder than a bunch lawn mowers. Still to noisey for close proximity interviews though. -
How to tighten internal male xlr in MKH 416 ?
Rick Reineke replied to Chris G's topic in Do It Yourself
I've never had that problem on a 416, and being familiar with Switchcraft XLRs, I would suspect a reverse thread. A camera op friend had a Sony 672 with a loose XLR base connector, the entire interference barrel needed to be removed to access the set-screw. Wasn't that hard, but not a job for twitchy folks. -
" or just 2 external plus the 2 internal mics?" >> The DR-40 can record two external plus the two internal mics only.. however there is another 4 trk. mode where a second set of redundant tracks can be set at lower levels.. AFAIK, the 1st gen. H2 only allows level adj globally.. and as with most budget portables, it's digital level, so the input stage can be clipped regardless of the rec. level adj. setting. Don't know about the H2n.

I carry a couple of Anchor AN-30s which can double as a small PA.. they're damn rugged too. need A/C though. For quick line checks and such, a pocket size Radio Shack O' shame 9V speaker/amp ( Catalog # 277-1008) http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062620

The trouble with the H4n is.. the 'Line-in' is compromised between Line and Inst. level. The Tascam DR40 or 100MkII are a better choice IMO too. FYI, the 1st gen. DR-100 does not have +4dB input capabilities, only XLR mic level and (unbalanced -10dB) 1/8" TRS. The DR-40 has mic/line switchable XLR/1/4" TRS combo inputs.
-
If that was a body pack transmitter, was the 1/8" TRS input connector/cable configured for line-level? (Ring terminal hot) If not, the input stage could be over-driven regardless of the internal 'Sensitivity' setting and would also account for "the input light on the transmitter (in the bag) was turning on very easily" As for "The director complained that his feed 'sounded like rain' " I would suspect interference too, but most non-audio folk describe sound in bizarre ways.

A client gave me a case of 3" day-glow lime colored tape, so I use that for pedestrian areas in hotels, offices, ect. There's always some idiot that manages to stumble accoss it even though it's highly visable and you can't miss it unless your walking aorund with yo' eyes closed. Residue has never been a problem, at least less than 48 hr.s.
-
I usually find all kinds of pouches at the nearest DollarTree including Tom's favs.
-
Using the Tape-out with a DR-40 or 100mkII, it may be difficult to get adequate levels using the XLR input since there's a level mismatch -15dB > +4dB (usually no problem for back-up though) In that case I'll use a 1/8" input if the recorder has one, (the DR-40 does not) or use a recorder that does. I carry an H2 around, since it's small and makes a good low cost back-up for the other low cost back-up.
-
If the 'audience response' mic is to be split or integrated with a PA, I would choose a cardioid H/H like the MD46, SM58 or 87.. the wireless H/H variety being the most common for a 'runners' audience mic.
-
+11, I do both. I started out as a (music) recording engineer in the 70s. (seems like a hundred years ago)

In addition to the above, there's Dale Audio down on West 19th, and you have to visit B&H, at least for the spectacle. 9th Ave 33-34th St. If you don't need the gear right away, have it shipped home and it may save you the NYC/NYS sales tax which is around 8.25%.

I put a 8x10 sign on the fridge, if it ain't in the shot with the settings, if I forget it ( which I usually don't ) someone will be able re-set it. The car keys idea is good though, if you have a car... For that matter a sign could tapped to your steering wheel or windshield stating "Did you turn the fridge back on" of course, after a tough 16 hour day.. you may not notice it
-
I also used a 302/H2 on occasion and came to the same conclusion (and settings) as sdog. In an attempt to put less stress the H2's cheapo 1/8" jacks, I made custom cables with very low-profile right-angle connectors for the 1/8" line in and HP return... and... gaffer tape them in place. When I do use the XLR outs, I (internally) attenuate them to -16dB (as I recall)
-
I don't have a H4n, but the Zoom's "line" level is compromised, somewhere between 'instrument' and 'line' to sell to the MI market.. I have no idea what the impedance is. Yes the DR-40 has mic/line switchable, XLR or 1/4" TRS via combo connectors. TRUE LINE IN? Yes, in terms of voltage. but I suspect it's just a 40 or 50dB pad prior to the preamp like most budget portables.. though I can't find a schematic to confirm this and Tascam ain't say'in or the reps I've talked to don't know. In either case, it sounds very good with my SD mixer front-end. Jim, let us know how the remote works out.

I have a few of sets of AA Rayovac Hybrids for my Sennheiser G2/3s. They run 12+ hours w/o ever shutting them off. I can charge them ahead of time since any self-discharge is negligible for at least a month in my experience.

IMHO, the Sound Room, you can have the mod done later. Of course with all the extra costs incurred, there are other options like the AT 4053 or the Audix _____? in that price range.

I have the Joly modded mic too, I think it sounds quite poor in comparison to the 8040 and 8050 Probably does, but if the 012 was a 'turkey' to begin with, the mod won't help much. I repeat, "Not all Oktavas' are created equal" +1 on the cardioid capsule.
