  1. I had the pleasure of working with Levon last year at a Midnight Ramble. (w/ Mavis Staple) I hadn't seen him in quite a few years, he treated me like a long-lost best friend. Levon was truly one of the nicest people I've ever met...celebrity or otherwise. RIP Levon.
  2. Is there some reason you can't refer to the user manuals, which are readily available on line.. that said,.. On a Tascam DR-100 1/8" line in you would likely want to use the 302's 'Tape out' .. however.. the DR-100 Mk II has a switchable mic/line XLR, so use the 302's XLRs in that case. (with no attenuation, which BTW is variable )
  3. Neat, a boom pole 'cloaking device'. Dave, please put me on the buyers list when the hydrogen-filled 'Hindenburg edition' pole is released. (For non-smoking boom ops).
  4. The TR-6 were discontinued long ago, before Event was acquired. Decent speakers though for the money.
  5. I used to have a Shure SM11 (dynamic lav) and used it in tight spaces with high SPLs. Unfortunately it met an early demise in an engine compartment. As robust as it was, no match against belts, pulleys and such.
  6. Nice find! It can downloaded it in a RTF or PDF format and further edited as well. A "rental agreement" clause should not be hard to add.
  7. The firmware update file is not really 'opened' in the traditional sense. As I recall, once you extract the firmware update file from the Zip folder, it then must be dropped or pasted into the 'Utility' folder on a DR-40 formatted SD card. One must then push and hold a series of buttons when starting the DR-40 to initialize the update.. In any case, it worked fine for me. The full instructions are in the firmware release notes, http://tascam.com/co...dr-40_rn_vc.pdf which is separate from the firmware file itself. The 1.10 firmware update file can be downloaded from here: http://tascam.com/co...r40_066.110.zip
  8. A "lava" mic. Made from volcanic ash no doubt. Probably picks up clothing noise a lot due to it's course nature. +11 for OST.. I have two TL-40s and two 802s. All my Tram accessory clips and such are interchangeable with the 801. (or 802s)
  9. Thanks, Now I SEE! Great idea Toy
  10. It looks like a 1/8" to 1/4" HP adapter? I can't ID the other components. Did you fill it w/ lead for weight?
  11. Assuming the cable was properly affixed with some kind of iso relief, have you tried it on someone with different material, some clothing is very abrasive and creates more cable noise.
  12. I would agree with Senator also.. if your receiver's AF out is set to +12 and get inadequate levels, the transmitter's mic sensitivity level is set too low. Switching to a mic level settings would yeild you more gain at the mixer and would bring up the noise from the improperly gain-staged wireless system.
  13. I don't believe the G3 portable receiver's output is balanced.. the G2 IS NOT. In my experience with the Epic and a G2.. Using the G2's included 1/8" to 1/8" cable. the right angle molded 1/8" stereo end (feeds both channels of a consumer camera or recorder) That cable did not work at all with the epic. I needed to go to a mono T/S 1/8".. unbalanced, that worked OK. I don't recall seeing any balanced/unbalanced setting in the menu either. Firmware & updates may be different.
  14. Put it up on http://www.freesound.org/ , all of us could listen to it or download it
  15. Not wrong, either the XLR or TRS 1/4" will work, line OR mic. "Confirm that phantom power is OFF before connecting a line level device to a EXT Mic/Line in jack". Yes, in fact, An on-screen message will ask you: "Phantom ON.. Are you Sure?" Yeah the mic inputs are noisy with low output mics, an RE50 for instance. I use the line level in, so it's hasn't been of an issue for me. FWIW, in Line level mode, the level is semi-fixed, the level control allows 12dB of gain only,.. from what I measured in 0.5dB increments. Personally I would have preferred 12dB of cut. Not an issue with a SD mixer, (OdB) but too hot for a true +4dBu referenced signal.
  16. If your looking for 'set-it-and-forget-it' operation, it ain't gonna happen in RF hell. (aka, Manhattan) None of those blocks will have every day 'trouble free' channels. Even my Lectro 411s won't consistently work trouble-free in Manhattan. The RF environment is constantly changing so it's difficult to choose a block.. or unused frequency for that matter.. then there's the FCC, who presumably will auction off most of our usable channels sooner or later. "You may want to consider more than one wireless for the sake of having another handy should you need a cleaner frequency block" For sure, I even carry around an old 185 VHS system.
  17. On the Epic shoots that I did, I used a G2 to send a scratch track. which must be an unbalanced connection, at the RED end, the 1/8" shield and ring must be tied together, or use a mono 1/8" plug.. like I did. A consumer type stereo L-R 1/8" plug (like the Hosta XVS series) WILL NOT pass audio.. though the Epic will indicate an audio input connection. I would think using either the Tip and/or Ring from the Comtek would work. but that would be unbalanced at the Red end as above. I assume a pad may be needed as well.
  18. Naming by word is (as I recall) limited to six prefix alphanumeric characters which can be ot upper and lower case.. for instance Tascam_0001.wav, whereas in the date mode: today's 1st file would start with "120301_0001.wav", if reset to start in an empty folder.
  19. I concur with Mark. And FWIW, the latest firmware update for the DR-40 now allows independent control over the two input levels. (though they are not rotory pots like th DR100) The delay setting has also been expanded, "useful for live recordings when the console is far away from the band", acording to Tascam 02-21-2012 - Firmware update 1.10: Product: DR-40 | TASCAM
  20. Who did you have to answer to for trashing the G3 and very possibly causing catastrophic damage to the Lectro. Will we be seeing the Lectro on eBay soon? If these belonged to you, apparently you have more money than brains. I like to see the video though.
  21. Not to repeat myself but.. all Oktavas are not created equal, modding a 'Vodka day' 012, is just gonna be a modded 'Vodka day' 012. It's less of a gamble to get an AT or Audix as Senator stated. Another option may be a 'Sound Room' Oktava, theirs are 'hand picked' but cost about $100 more than one 'off the shelf'. But even than, the Mod is gonna be another $100 on top of that, so now your overall price is in the range of a new AT4053b.
  22. I was resting.. balancing the boom on my shoulder. not mic'ing an aircraft. (which I seem to attract like flies to sh**)
  23. I would never buy shoes without trying them on, as the sizes and fit vary greatly. About a year ago I got a pair of Elk Woods waterproof hiking shoes from Sears, About $65 as I recall. I''m real fussy about shoes and I tried on just about every hiker in the store. (of my approximate size) and found the Elk Woods to be the most confortable and the build looks to be as good as the $150 shoes... that were not very comfortable at all. I don't subscribe to the, 'they will be comfortable once you wear them in'.
  24. I've used the 810, it ani't fool-proof but properly set-up, it works quite nice. I've never used the Lectro or the Dugan.
