FUZE Ti - The Affordable Timecode Slate (calling all UK recordists)
Ramsay replied to Matt Bacon AMPS's topic in Equipment
I notice the slate is smaller than the usual Deneke slates we use. -
Another vehicle maybe worth considering for mixers where weather can be bad is the 2014 GMC Savana. This is the first year it comes with an AWD option. http://www.gmc.com/savana-passenger-van.html

Catastrophic fail with BR and Yamaha..
Ramsay replied to Richard Ragon's topic in Recording Direct to Computer
All in one recorders are probably a better idea over all. I have used BR without fail for at least 180 days a year 13 hours a day for 7 years tho....I also doubt it is a BR issue. -
Gary Vahling at Trew audio is a good person to speak with. There are other options than Roland I found out today and would like to pass them on. The Optocore system is available through our Trew distributor in Toronto, Canada and typically takes about 3 weeks to receive. The model number for 8 line in and 8 line outs is X6R-TP-8LI/8LO. With one of these on each end the configuration would be 8 Line In and 8 LIne's per side, with Word clock I/O, AES I/O, and dual power supplies(AC and 12V) You would just need to build the XLR breakout panels to get the system up and running. Once the system in patched via computer, the settings are saved and it's plug and play after that. The software is no charge and can be downloaded from the website. The Lectrosonics BOB 88 breakout boxes just pass audio only and are 12V powered. No redundant power supplies are built in. XLR's panels would need to be built as well. As we discussed the Optocore system has been built specifically to transport audio. The Dante protocol is using Ethernet as a way to route audio.

That is a good article Tim. Do you need to have the controller, or can the system work with just the two boxes?
-
Thanks Richard, Two of those units might be perfect and they run on 12v DC!
-
With all the new technology of Dante and others, is there an even simpler way of using the Cat5-E concept? I can't stand the excessive smoke used on set by junior DP's and would love to find a solution. All I would need is 8 channels (plus some sort of 2 channel TV feed) from set and two channels of return. Cheers.

I would like to be able to alternate on series like DP's do, but it seems post is reluctant to have sound mixers alternate. My thought is that each mixer has such a distinct style, that it is to time consuming to deal with. Has anyone else had experiences like this? Are there any of our post mixers who can chime in with any thoughts? I'd love to work fewer episodes on a full 22 episode season.

Thanks Eric, I'm always tweaking the top and bottom a couple DB's anyway between mics, so I'll give 'em a try.

I'm thinking of revisiting the MKH 50 as an indoor mic. We often need an elbow in tight situations. Is the 8050 with elbow a good match to the MkH 50? Specs look similar.

Very cool. You can also buy them in a package of 2 at Costco.

NPR is going digital. Huge auction of analog gear.
Ramsay replied to Eric Toline's topic in Equipment
Thanks for the link! I looked through everything. No mics (no need to sell them as they are still in use I guess). I saw a few gems. Urei speakers, Macintosh amps and some nice old Soundcraft boards. -
And now the Director of "Safety not Guaranteed" gets to do Jurassic Park 4.....

Mac Mini and Traveler for location
Ramsay replied to crimsonfilter@gmail.com's topic in Recording Direct to Computer
Why not use a Motu Ultralight, Deneke sync box, MacBook, Boom Recorder and any of the better quality 8 channel portable mixers? This would be a very inexpensive and practical setup and wouldn't die if someone suddenly pulled your AC. -
Of all the voices I've recorded... +1 Peter O'Toole. +1 Issac Hayes. Donald Sutherland (despite his "issues") Kevin Spacey Willliam Hurt Of all the voices I would like to record... Morgan Freeman Joe Pesci Sean Connery Judi Dench

Thanks for the update Nic. Could you plese add to your post "one more thing". -Metadata can be input via iphone or Ipad via WIFI connection. Pleeeeease!!!
-
All it is missing (for me) is easy inputting of Metadata and generating sound reports for my cart based system. I've been waiting a long time for a 10 track machine to work in concert with my ST8D.
-
No WIFI. I called SD
-
A couple questions. I am mostly mixing from the cart. Can the metadata be input via WIFI/IPad like the 788T? Could the CL6 be adapted to the 788 so that additional inputs can be routed to the 12 potential record tracks? Update, Called SD. There is a possible keyboard input but no WIFI. CL6 cannot be adapted to 788T. Outputs cannot be used as inputs without CL6

Any news from the sound devices other then new Pix?
Ramsay replied to RadoStefanov's topic in Current
Apple buys SD, Lectro and Zaxcom in a bold move to build a new series of products which allow mixers all over the world to remotely mix from home or the pool. -
For $2500 a week I will discount my sound package rental and send it over (if they have Insurance) and they can use anyone they want to run it. Why would any professional do a job for so little when the equipment we use in full feature packages costs 80-100K+ and we have many years of experience? This doesn't have to be a race to the bottom. We are the one dept. that most Indie directors say they don't want to scrimp on.
