You might check out RRC. 80-90 dollar range for the 98wh

I would imagine as SD owns Audio Limited, we will see a SD integrated mixer/recorder/wireless system. Seems like a nice idea for some. Kudos to Glen for bringing the Nova to fruition.

Dyneema CT-PSA, there are probably others that would work. -
Got a 3d printer. Try some TPU. MatterHackers has it in clear, I imagine other vendors do to.

DIY custom light zaxcom nova OneUnit condor bag mod

True that Rado. I am starting to gather pieces for my version 3 bag for my Cantar Mini. I found some vendors that will sell small quantities of Dyneema fabric. Now that stuff is expensive, but really light. Like .5oz for a 36"x36" piece. A 36"x36" piece suitable for the bag only weighs 5oz. For some applications you don't even need to sew it. Seams for example. A super bonding tape along with an iron for a little heat transfer and you are done. Zippers still need to be stitched. -

One of my go to sources for foam and fabric has been Seattle Fabrics. They have several really nice thin foam pieces. Another source might be a camping supply store, use the foam from sleep mats. -
Definitely Minicircuits would be my go to. Just wanted to pass along the results of testing an inexpensive passband filter from China.

Plus you can never have too much gear. Tax write-off helps

Want to share observations on an inexpensive passband filter. Working on another version of my Cantar Mini bag and want to integrate all of the wireless to just two antennas. I would also like to have passband filtering which most of the commercial offering lack. So bought one of the Chinese passband filters to see how it looked. On the spectrum analyzer, it is wider than the printed label. At 8db down as shown on the analyzer the upper end is around 658mHz and the lower end is around 505mhz. The measured insertion loss is about 2.5db. Not as narrow as I had hoped. Still a lot of the T mobile spectrum could slip by. Probably would help with on set walkie-talkies in the 450-490mHz range. So for about 40usd not bad.

Stereo version of the SN. You are probably right Jeff, the G forces would cause problems, most likely when the chute deployed. Lots of flutter and wow.
-
Back in the day, I would just put a SSN on the person, hit record and let it run. So much easier now.

I have the KSHRN3, not a huge fan, (see my posting on the For Sale section). I had a chance to try one on in the shop. I had drop by to share my Cantar Mini bag with the staff. I only had it on for a few minutes: fit better on me than the K-Tek (I have a long torso), the straps were easier to attach and adjust. The metal spine does stick out and I could see myself backing into something or catching it on an unseen object behind me. Definitely tough to sit in. The adjustable feature is nice, perhaps better if you didn't have the adjustment module hanging about. I think if it was built in and had a knob to turn, less stuff and a bit lower price? I believe I will wait for version two!!

Same here, actually had some of the screws come loose. Schoeps was nice enough to send extras after I mentioned it to them. Very early mic.

Similar question, has anyone purchased on of their antenna DAs? If so thoughts compared to other manufactures offerings.
-
You the man Larry. One of the reasons I have stay with Lectro!!

Perhaps include condom on the search list.

Nice Ryan, I did see those bags. What are your thoughts on the construction and support. I am guessing there is some sort of internal framework. Is there some internal storage for transmitters and other small bits. Lastly I see you are using five wireless and boom. Oops added PSC 6-pack. Are you using any AES devices. I am thinking about adding another SR with the AES outputs to bring wireless count up to 6 channels and still have two free mic channels for boom and ?? if needed.

Thanks David. Not having a mainstream recorder is a bit of a hassle, not a lot of third party support, mainly in bags. It has been fun, lots of measuring, extra holes where I missed measured and so on. Regards, David

For the past few months I have been using my Cantar Mini. I work bag and bag cart, so in my search for a Cantar Mini bag I found only three sources and none of them really did what I needed done in a bag. So I built two versions, the second is shown below in the photos. The first version shall never be seen in public. All of the metal work and sewing I did, so please don't judge me!! The Mini is not like any other recorder/mixer shape. So my design incorporates a frame much like the Aaton cheese plate offering. I wanted something fairly compact and have some features that I don't believe any other bag has. By making it triangular I have created a space that now houses a permanent battery distribution system, battery cup for an Inspired Energy type battery, a USB power outlet and two attachment points for mounting two Lectrosonic dipole antennas. For me battery and antennas on other bags are an afterthought. The total weight of the bag with no battery, is 2kg and that includes the BDS, USB power and the battery cup. So it's weight is on par with other bags. Dimensions are 30.5 x 28 x 23cm. Since this design has the Mini in a vertical position, a flat surface means you would need to operate from a standing position. On a bag type cart this is not a problem. So for the times when you can sit at a table I added the folding design to allow you to operate and see the screen. I have small rubber feet on the metal surfaces to protect whatever table you set up on. The sloped surface makes it a bit easier for me to operate as I don't have all of the button positions memorized. I am already thinking of changes in the third version. Also shown is my minimalist take. Two wireless channels and a boom.

Used Sound Devices 702 or at a higher price point the Nagra 7. Used SD702 prices seem to be around 800usd.

I did see that, still in some cases too few. Yes I know I could use a DA or passive splitter for more outs, just nice not to need another box. Both machines are excellent in what they do. Perhaps one day I can have one of each. (anybody want a 633 and 688!!)
-
Well when you add the RC8 the size begins to increase slightly, still doesn't have faders/actuators. So size becomes closer. But you do have 12 mic pres, point to R4+. Routing and the Transvideo screen are first rate. I don't have a Sonosax, seen them at Trew's. Present stable includes SD633, SD688 and Cantar Mini. I looked long and hard at the R4+. For me the lack of having a number of outputs was an issue for the work I mostly do. If I didn't need the variety of connections, I would have chosen the R4+ The form factor of the Mini is really a problem as there are very limited bag choices and none of those really worked for me. Aaton's cheese plate rig also didn't work. So I made my own bag. The R4+ like the SD products fits so many different bags. Both of these recorders are excellent machines.
