  1. So what your saying is, old bread sells for pennies on the dollar. The newer the bread, the higher the price... So, newbies should be paid more than the "Heavy Hitters''?
  2. The enloop pros last all week in my TS-3's, GR-1s, and all day in the sync boxes. About 5 hours in my SMV's and 3 hours in my TRXLTs. I'll be switching away from those to the two battery version due to that and some other factors. Enloop pros are the best I've found to date.
  3. I bought this cheap chinese amp. It has easily quadrupled my range even with the long cable going to directional antenna, which is also cheap chinese stuff. If I turn the power level below 6 on the nomad, it doesn't hit the amp.. It's working great and I didn't spend a cart load of money. I can change settings on the TRXs and use the ERXs anywhere on the large set and for some short distance outside the metal insulated building they are calling a sound stage. The 39dbm amp was $45 and the antenna was under $55. It's worth bearing in mind however, the Chinese stuff adverstised specs are probably not reality and you can fry an egg on the thing. I'm having my crew wear tinfoil hats for RF safety reasons and for the respect said hats command from the other departments.
  4. Yes, of course, so can every Deva, Nomad, etc.. and the newer firmware on the QRX can do 96k.
  5. Another Rec Epic Fail.. Sometimes going in and out of the timecode menus and changing and resetting the settings can help it act right.. Sometimes a reboot... Every now and then I've seen them just get the bodies replaced. Epic..
  6. Lol. It's Zaxcom. I love that they think of almost everything. This is a truly innovative and unique design that does so very much. I'm sure it will have much success. I'll wait for the Deva32 lite that just records 32 channels in a box without all the cool extra stuff that I personally don't require. If I were starting from scratch with an entirely new cart build, I would jump on it. A built in computer would have been nice with hdmi/dvi output. Who has a VGA monitor anymore?
  7. I'm curious as to where the external computer connects to the rear panel.. Is it one of the serial ports with some custom cable? I don't see any USB style connection back there.
  8. I have one of these at home and one on the trailer. They are great for the money for general soldering.
  9. I like the sponge, it cleans nicely and prompts the iron to get its temp back up for its next slaughter joint.
  10. It's a two wire mic. Easy to convert to any transmitter you would like. Some easier than others.. In this instance, solder the positive to the tip, the shield or ground wire to the ground on the mini TRS plug. http://www.countryman.com/microphone-wiring
  11. Just don't mention that the mic sounds "like Dynamite" or anything of that nature.. Don't say it is a "killer" piece of kit or that it's "the bomb" for sound.. Never say bomb on a plane.
  12. I installed a heating pad in one of the drawers of my follow cart. In cold weather, I'll place the packs, lav bullet, and leftover breakfast in the drawer to be heated to a nice comfortable temp. The actors (victims) have commented that this is a much appreciated courtesy.
  13. Interesting conspiracy theory.. This deserves a second look. This is horse shit!
  14. No. You must have keyboard support. This is a separate piece of internal processing hardware that is not included in the Nomad 10. I came up with the idea and then had to send my 10 in for the upgrade to 12. When it returned to me, I had the hardware and software ready and it works very nicely. It's so killer watching all the transmitter packs displayed on the RX-12 go from STOP to RECORD every time I flip that roll switch that also controls my Deva and movieslate.
  15. Only problem is, they might be a bit cost prohibitive at around $45. Then you might have to add a wifi dongel for an additional $8 and other accessories.. The whole thing might end up being around $60 and who can afford that after dropping $20,000 on a new system? Here are the specs. https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/raspberry-pi-2-model-b/
  16. It depends on the signal. I wouldn't use it for high frequency stuff like video or RF. Those connectors have a specific value that shouldn't be trifled with and a loss in dB associated with every break in the cable as well as a drop in signal over cable length..
  17. I programmed a microcontroller to listen the the switch that was previously going to the serial port on nomad, now taken up by RX-12. It emulates the keyboard commands for roll and stop and works like business as usual using the USB port.
  18. Yes, external computer for the GUI. It will record without a computer, but I'm not sure how much fun it would be.
  19. Ixml metadata. Should contain timecode stamp, track assignments, slate, scene, take, sound roll designation, notes, and other stuff can be added too.
  20. Maybe look into MOTU traveler, or perhaps the 8 pre.
  21. Thanks for that! I've been looking for that image for a while..
  22. Maybe a Raspberry PI 2 could make a perfect solution for the need for an external computer. It's low power consumption. 5v DC. And is about the size of a pack of cigarettes. Will run windows. Can do wifi, usb, hdmi..
