  1. Remote Audio is coming out with an inverter add-on 1RU unit for the Meon LiFe. I've been very happy with my Meon.
  2. I've been using these NP-1's and they are great. http://www.switronix.com/products?page=shop.browse&category_id=30 Similar capacity to the IDX and much cheaper. They also make a simultaneous 4-bank charger that rocks!
  3. Thanks Larry! It's great how accessible and proactive you guys are in our industry. Bud.
  4. IIRC the PD6 internal HD could not be connected via usb. You had to burn the files to the dvd-ram drive, then you could mount the dvd-ram to an external computer via usb. You would have to disassemble the PD6 and try to get an enclosure for the HD.
  5. Larry, I'd be happy to send in my Block 21 SMV for testing. Elements to developing the noise: Waking up from an extended "sleep" mode, eg. 3+ hours. Battery at less than 50%. Bud.
  6. Had an issue last night that I've had infrequently in the past so I thought I'd see who else has encountered it. Running a block 21 SMV and put it in Sleep mode for 3-4 hours. When we "woke it up" it had a very hollow and empty sound, like listening to a sea-shell. Changed the battery, turned it back on, and good as new. Has anyone else experienced this? Have you determined what circumstances make it happen reliably? Any fixes? SMV is running latest firmware for non-backlit transmitters. Thanks! Bud.
  7. I also use the HiTech's. I've started using this Tenergy 6-bank charger with great success: http://www.tenergy.com/01346
  8. When there are noises that cannot be eliminated or dealt with, I'll ask for 10 seconds of quiet after we've hit sticks and before they call action. People never seem to be able to actually stand still after the setup is done. They are, however, used to being still and quiet while we're rolling cameras. And since we're recording to electronic media now instead of celluloid, nobody minds. Seems to work for me.
  9. That's why I actively avoid using my GPS until I need it. I find I have much better recognition of my surroundings and faster orientation in new cities without it. I treat it as an a tool to use in case of emergency, like when I'm actually lost.
  10. I watched the concert streaming live last night. Pretty cool, but I didn't know why Buscemi was directing it.
  11. Glen, Does the MZD 8000 have similar DSP to the Super CMIT? I.E., do they find it attenuates the background noise? Curious, because I have the 8050 and the 8060 analog mics. Bud.
  12. CUB and COS-11 48V adaptors are not interchangeable.
  13. I just create the sound report and save it to the cf card. Turn in the card, sound report follows. No need for another app.
  14. I use the black 3rd generation eneloop batteries. As Larry Fisher pointed out in a post awhile back, they sacrifice some capacity for extra resistance to self-discharge. Same design as the white gen 1 or blue gen2, but with more capacities. I use this charger with them: http://tinyurl.com/abj9ypx Works flawlessly.
  15. Cool! Great interview. I must say, Jon is just as straightforward as his gear
  16. I've always used a CPA since I began freelance work and it is absolutely deductible money well spent. I'm frequently making use of obscure and esoteric deductions, e.g. Section 179, Form 8834, etc., and I find their nuanced knowledge of the code is worth their weight in gold. Of course, with any service profession, it depends on your tax professional and YMMV. But if you find a good one they can literally save you tens of thousands of dollars. If you are in the Los Angeles greater metro area and need a recommendation just PM me.
  17. Absolutely. And don't forget your guaranteed pension benefit and IAP payout for your retirement. It's never too early to plan for retirement. Unless you want to work forever.
  18. Since there are no white space devices at the moment, it is still all theoretical. But the idea of registering at this time is announcing your use and need for the spectrum allocation. Your database allocation lasts for 24 hours, so in ptactice log your location during the morning setup, time permitting.
  19. Thanks to Bill Ruck and Coffey Sound for the great presentation last week. I already have my license, but it was fascinating to see Mr. Ruck in action. It was a very convoluted process to fill out the Form 601 and I am very glad to have had Bill's expertise. He also brought up the very relevant point that as more spectrum is bid for at auction, now Block's 24 through 26 is on the auction block. The only chance we have of reserving the spectrum for our livelihood is to get licensed and be counted as a user.
  20. I have the 10x10 and I love it. It has a large footprint, but you can stand upright inside. Big enough for me, utility cart, and video assist, which works great. It's the D model.
  21. Did anyone else calculate the different premiums with and without the IAP contribution? With 2 or more dependents, for $50/month premium, $.305/hr is not put into your IAP account and is used to pay your costs. But for $68/month premium, you get to keep your normal IAP contribution. So if you work more than 60 hours/month, you are getting more money by electing to pay the higher premium. And if you're not working at least 60 hours/month, you're not going to qualify for the next eligibility period, so seems like an easy choice. With no dependents though, your premium is waived with diversion of your IAP contribution, which weighs more heavily towards diverting.
  22. I have to say K-Tek's are my favorite boom pole, for a variety of reasons. Not too heavy (ambient), very rigid, and great quality construction. Ambient's are incredibly rigid, but I never could muster the endurance to use them all day! Also, K-Tek's are actually the quietest straight cabled poles I have used, bar none.
