  1. I've purchased NiMH 9v's in the past, used them for about a week before I bought the iPower 520 9v's and I've never looked back. Definitely stay away from NiMH. Lithium batts are lighter and generally last much longer.
  2. It's only when everyone quiets down and you're focusing on sound when you can hear the airplanes, leaf blowers, big diesel engines etc.. The noises are usually there, but much more noticeable when everyone shuts up and you put on your headphones. My favorite is when I ask for room tone and I can hear people breathing, shuffling their feet, whispering, crinkling a plastic wrapper... I have a 2-stroke leaf blower and I LOVE it. Yea it's noisy, but it's way easier than raking. I have a tree on my property that drops really tiny leaves that my rakes don't like to gather. Leaf blower gets them no problem. And I use my leaf blower to gather leaves and put them in refuse bags, not blow them onto my neighbors lawn.
  3. I use two Swit NP-L60 batteries at a time. One of them feeds 788 only, the other feeds 4x SRb, 2x LMa and a T4. I can make it through most days with 4 NP1's, but If I'm running 7 wires, a boom, dual channel camera sends and IFB, 6 NP1's will easily get me through a 12-hour day.
  4. I remember watching that video and I think it was French. Footage from an actual BTS camera, very impressive skills and sparked debates on wind/handling noise. Been searching the web but unable to find it either..
  5. Yep, worked a TON this year and my body is physically drained. So much it got me sick twice this year and I'm not one to get sick very often, maybe a sniffle once every 3 years. I complain and complain but then I look at my bank account and I shut right up.
  6. I never reviewed any of these products, just made the easy no-brainer assumption that 8 channels of wireless($499) from a company that makes karaoke machines is not something I'd ever consider for my line of work. Having used quite a few wireless systems from Zaxcom, Lectrosonics, Sennheiser, Sony, Shure and Micron to name a few, I have a pretty good idea as to how the VocoPro's would perform compared to say a Sennheiser G3. At that price I can't expect it to come even close to the Sennheiser's performance. I'm a Lectro user, so looking at these VocoPros I can't help but brush them off. Not judging JUST from the price either. I'm judging by this company I've never heard of who specializes in karaoke.
  7. Probably not, but you can still judge a wireless product by it's price. I'm sure it's great for those late night karaoke parties when your so drunk you keep tripping over the microphone cables!
  8. Try to find someone local with an ultrasonic cleaner for electronics. That might be your best bet.
  9. Well, here it is again.. Generally speaking, you get what you pay for.
  10. 800 hours of proven position experience(doesn't have to be union). I think Jan is pointing out that 800 hours will most likely prepare you better than a sound class would.
  11. So you use Tubigrip in place of something like Neopax for a smaller footprint?
  12. You mean the cable doesn't wrap easily? I've heard some people hang them with a small weight at the bottom, some say to lay them in the sun for a bit. In my experience, new lav cables are a bit stiff(even the Sankens) but they will break in nicely after a bit of regular use.
  13. Can't decide what's worse, the mic job or the outfit..
  14. Contact Doug Schiete, (cine-tik.com) remisound@me.com Doug is a great friend of mine, been in the business for decades and knows his stuff. Very reasonable rates. Sanken CS3e AKG 414 Neumann u87 Avalon pre Telefunken V72 pre Apogee converter Pro-Tools HDX Avid C-24 Genelec monitors A great room with an ADR booth(with monitor)
  15. I use two of these wired together to power my SRb when there is no power source on the camera rig. Two iPower 9v's will last me until lunch. http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/301575514680
  16. Two iPower 9v's will keep my SRb's powered about 5-6 hours.
  17. Ahh yes the 3d eraser! Why didn't I think of that?
  18. I own a 788 and 633. I haven't noticed any difference in preamp quality.
  19. Great test! Although watching that video makes me dizzy.
  20. A good mixer should cost you $500-650 per (12-hour) day. Equipment rental depends on specifics, but I would figure $250-500 per day.
  21. I'm sound supervising a non-scripted pilot in NY and RI areas. Looking for some help for a couple days we have a larger cast. You would be using my 633, Lectro wireless, boom, hops, IFB. Shoot me a message for more info.
  22. Check out the Moze Gear Tig Q28. I've never used it but it's the smallest I've seen(non radio) and I've heard good things from the members of this forum.
