Hi all, Most bizarre RF interference from Sony HD Cam HDW 750 on my lectro radio mics. Twice on a series, weeks apart, no other occurences, using radio mics all the time... Problem: sounds like noisy "breathing/beat" over my radio mics, cyclical, spacing of about 5 seconds. All is OK on rehearsal, but when the cameras roll, the hit comes, similar to cellphone hits, but not! Very quiet room, 20ft from tx to rx. Different frequencies each time. Audio quality is unaffetced, the 'noise' is 'over' the audio. Has anyone had this before? Any solutions? Has anyone ever tried to electronically 'blimp/shield' a HD camera, I know they are basically just one big RF generator, but …

Ok, I looks like I failed on my Slate Sync. Usually I take the 702T, run it "free run", and then plug in my slate and sync it up at what ever frame rate the camera is running at.. And, just to make sure, I re-sync about every 4 hours, but I also watch the slate in my monitor, and count the beats to make sure it's very close to my recorder and theres little drifting. Producer gets a call from the Telecine, saying that the slate is out of sync a lot of the time on most of the shots.. Well, I want to know how I can make this better, as too not screw this up again in the future, so I asked a few questions about telecine. In the mean time, the producer has a pickup day …

Hi All, This one's a long shot, but does anyone still have any technical info or diagrams for the Perfectone NT4101L mixer please? I picked one up recently for a refurb. project (without realising how hard the shematics would be to find!) It looks to have silicon transistors, about 30dB gain on each of the 4 input channels and (i'm guessing) another 10dB on the "summing" output channel. Other than needing of some t.l.c and a new power supply, it looks to be really well made. I certainly wouldn't want to drop one on my foot! :-) I've no idea how old it is though, i'm guessing 1970's? Any help or guidance would be much appreciated, All the best, Lee

My first Denecke's were among the first batch of TC slates, and all of them had B/W stix. Later, when having the reed switch on those early slates fixed Mike Denecke asked me if I would rather have colored stix. He had no pretensions towards his colored stix being any sort of real color reference, I think he just thought they looked cool. I do too. Later, the camera-assistant-turned-shooter Peter Litomiski sold some very nice miniature clap slates for a few years that had colored stix as well (wish I still had it--stolen). Philip Perkins

I'm thinking of buying a timecode slate for my kit. That TS-C is awfully cute but at around 5" x 8" is it too small? Does size matter when it comes to slates? A.

The search for a new mixing panel goes on... Soundcraft Spirit M8 Series mixer This looks like maybe an alternative to a Mackie 1604/1642 mixer (same weight, a couple of inches deeper and wider but you can take off the sides/rack mounts). It's got 100mm faders, switchable pre/post fader on the direct outs, professional grade connections throughout. No DC power of course. $759.00 online or at guitar center. Really wish I had put in that Cooper 208 order last year... http://www.soundcraft.com/product_sheet.asp?product_id=24

I recently picked up a pair of Alesis M1 Active 320 USB speakers (internally amped, not USB powered) and for $99 they are a great way to monitor your laptop without having to use the headphone jack or an seperate audio interface. Also, with both RCA, 1/8" and 1/4" inputs they make pretty decent cart speakers. http://www.alesis.com/m1active320usb Bruce

I've got a gig recording a board meeting coming up, and I'm toying with the idea of using one of these automatic mixers. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience using one of these. How does it sound? Do you get any pumping from the mics opening and closing? I'd rather use my board and mix it live, but I may have other things to do during the shoot Any input is appreciated. Tom

I’ve posted a much abbreviated operating guide to the Cantar on my website. It’s available as a pdf download. The file is available here: http://www.productionrecording.com/Tools/CantarGuide.html The file is set-up for regular stationary (8.5â€ x 11â€). However, if you direct your printer to load paper from the manual feed slot and feed it an Avery label sheet, item 05444, the copy should all align to the labels. It will print on two of the 2x4 labels plus some copy on the blank space between the labels. (That blank area is also useable.) The resulting labels fit nicely into the space on the backside of the meters and also on the space just above the optic…

Seriously considering the FR2 LE for an audio only long term project. Anyone have hands on experience with this unit? Going to be feeding it at line level from a 442. Eric

Yesterday, after hours of nearly non-stop recording (HD) on my 744T, the headphone disc monitoring was suddenly backwards. Actually, backwards, as if it were tape being played in reverse. Direct headphone monitoring was normal but in A,Bm mode everything was crazy. I checked playback and everything was cool. It didn't happen on the next take but what possibly could make the audio be backwards. Perplexed, Bruce

Not totally a new topic (pictures posted here sometime back) but I am wondering when any of the US companies are going to get this windscreen in stock. I did see the Cinela mount first in France (at DCAudio Visuel) but it hasn't had much penetration here in the US. The Zephyx windscreen is something I think I would really like. Posted below is a description of its benefits (and it fits right into most all of the design considerations that Don Coufal has used in the windscreens he has built in the past): from DVAudio Visuel website "The new ZEPHYX windscreen has several new benefits: - Wind protection is increased thanks to the ovoid shape and to better capsule p…

Can anyone point me to a simple explanation on which frequencies will and won't be available for our wireless mics in the upcoming switch? I'm looking at purchasing a few Sennheiser G2's and don't want to get them if they're only going to be good for a few months. Thanks

This new interface looks to have quite a few more features and function, unfortunately it is AC powered. Worth looking into. From MOTU site: "The 896mk3 provides eight channels of pristine 24-bit 192 kHz analog recording and playback, combined with sixteen channels of optical digital I/O, stereo AES/EBU, S/PDIF and separate analog main outs. Expand your system by connecting the 8pre mic input expander or other MOTU audio interfaces." http://www.motu.com/products/motuaudio/896mk3/features.html - Jeff Wexler

I was just wondering what kind of AA NiMh batteries people are using? What is the highest maH rating you are seeing? What brands do you like? Who are you buying them from....local dealer? Website? Prices?

I haven't ever used the Lockit box, but I have used the SB-T. I need to use one of these on some upcoming productions so I can have the cameras jammed whenever they need to be. Both seem to have nearly identical features and they are nearly identical price wise. Is there any advantage of one over the other? Thanks, Wayne

Hi all, for those of you who missed my intro in Who I Am Today, I'm a senior at NYU in film. So I am at the student level, just starting out mixing sound. But it's about time I began assembling my own rig. It will be a slow, expensive process, but necessary lol. I've decided that since I'll have another year's access to decent mics and mixers and because I seem to find myself on an increasing number of HVX shoots, the logical first acquisition is a breakaway cable. Alas these things things are $250 and while they are a great convenience (and essential to monitoring from the recorder) it's hard to justify so much when I could easily use 3 cables, messy as that is, t…

I seem to remember there being some issues with the 7 series recorders when using them on external power with no battery attached. Is this still an issue? I have a 702T that lives on my cart permanently and I don't see any reason to have a battery attached, except for total cart power failure....and at that point, my 702T will be the least of my worries. Any thoughts? ~pwp

Hi gang, I want to do some MS recording with my 744t. What I would like to do is be able to record a decoded MS signal (Left and right) to 2 tracks of the recorder, but send the non decoded tracks (Mid and Side) to the 2 other tracks. Anyone know if this is possible ? From what i understand in the user guide, as soon as you set the recorder for MS recording, it sends the the decoded tracks only. I also figured out that if I use my 442 in front of the recorder, I could send prefade signals to tracks 3 and 4 independantly, but I would really rather just take the 744t with me, to travel light. Any suggestions ?
