Caio
Hello, If using a headphone monitor with a XLR pass-through like the Rolls PM55P, does it matter if I am using cables with a different brand, spec? If not, then in which case using different cables can become a problem? Until now I have only used one cable from source to equipment, unless going through mixers or preamps. Thanks. pkautzsch
If it takes XLR cables, any XLR cable will work fine.

Eric Toline
Does a cable with directional arrows on it work better?
Jack Norflus
Does a cable with directional arrows on it work better? As long as you occasionally clear out the cache you really won't notice a difference.

RPSharman
only if you have OCD to the point that you can't funtion I can only function for a short time without matching bits. No cables with different ends (black vs. nickel), etc. I overheard my boom op tell my 3rd, "You can put that podium mic up there, but Robert's going to move it until it's exactly in the middle, so you might as well let him do it." I'd also watch him sweat as he labeled my gear, making sure the symmetry was of a very high standard.
Jeff Wexler
Hey, Robert, I think I have the same sickness, only probably much worse. Symmetry, everything lined up properly, parallel, left and right, all these things apply to even the simplest layout or position. I remember once I was having trouble getting to sleep and suddenly realized the problem: I had taken off my shoes and placed the pair beside the bed, the left shoe was on the right, the right shoe was on the left, how can this happen! Placing the shoes side by side with the proper orientation, I slept like a baby.

pkautzsch
Does a cable with directional arrows on it work better? With directional mics it works much better. With omnis it won't work at all.
Johnny Karlsson
With directional mics it works much better. With omnis it won't work at all. Not to mention figure 8 cables. Once you put a signal in them, it stays there forever.
Christopher Mills
oh, and make sure not to store a coiled cable with its ends plugged together, the trapped electricity running in circles can diminish the copper's ability to carry signal. carbonhobbit
Don't forget the gauge of the wire in the cables. Different sizes cause the electrons to speed up or slow down. To much one way or the other can effect the speed of the sound reaching the recorder, sometimes throwing off sync to picture.

soundtrane
there's different kinds of salt - sea salt, rock salt, processed salt, iodized salt, and many more. one needs to figure out what kind of salt one needs to figure out what kind of salt one needs... once this is clear, every kind of salt could be possibly used, but with a major caveat - one needs to figure out what kind of salt one really needs, because it's all not the same. syncsound
And if you want to verify anything you read here online, be sure to only use this ethernet cable: (which, sadly, is a real thing)
