So I am looking to augment my cart rig with a analog mixer. Obviously since I am using it with the 788t i would love to have 8 direct outs. Another mixer recommended the Mackie 1642vlz3 , any thoughts on this? The mackie seems like the perfect size for what I want, but maybe I am overlooking or missing other mixers? please chime in! and thanks, Reza

Lately I have been getting more and more cellphone interference in my Sanken cubs and CS3e's. seems specific to iPhones. Anyone dealt with a modification for this?

My Nomad 6 delivered recently. I tested extensively at home without detecting any problems. I took it out on my first job last week and had some serious issues. In the middle of recording a scene it stopped processing audio. I heard an audible pop, as if it was shutting down but it kept recording silence. A warning came up: "dangerously low external voltage". At this point my voltage meter read 0.0 and the interface was haywire. My NP1 battery had been reading 14.5 volts or so before this incident and I had internal batteries installed. I had tested the internal batteries previously by hot swapping an NP1 and the until didn't miss a beat. I swapped out CF cards a…

Hey Everyone, I read recently on a post that someone was getting BETTER range and performance out of their Lectro 411 systems by setting the wattage down to 50 mW. This seems counter-intuitive. What has your experience been? I'd think that 100 mW would give me more range, but I guess 50 mW could give less "splatter" and therefore less intermod problems. -Matt

I have been having issues with "static" between my boom cable, equipped with the Neutrik RF connectors, and my Denecke P48 power supplies. I have checked and cleaned cables and connectors, etc., and Denecke serviced the power supplies. Still having issues at the connector. Both cables, both boxes, etc., so unlikely just a bad piece of gear. It seems to be some kind of static build up. Problem is solved by an unplug and plug. Shaking and tugging produces no noise. But let it sit for a little while, then pick up the pole to use it, and scratchiness occurs. Anyone else experiencing this? I can only imagine it's the Nuetrik connector, since it's the only "new" pr…

My otherwise wonderful 4 year old K251 poles have started rattling. Well maintained, clean and protected. Brenda was very kind to have sent me some of those teflon adhesive backed strips about a year ago... I am wondering if replacing them will help alleviate the problem. Has anyone experienced this problem? -vin

I called sound devices and got them to tell me what it uses with my current setup of 8 wireless and CL-8 and no battery charging, Josh said 14 watts, he said turning on the internal charger adds another 7. Does any one know how many watts the 788t pulls with everything attached, ie; all channels with phantom power, a CL9, a CL-wifi, Internal battery charging, LCD and LEDs on Bright and all channels at maximum gain? I love Sound Devices but I hate when companies post the minimum power draw of their unit, what use is that? Tell me the max and Ill build a system to deal with it then be happily surprised that it lasts a long time when Im not running everythi…

I am baffled.... I ordered a coiled boom cable from loon a month ago and they shipped it right away. I mailed a check the same day . My check still has not been cashed. I sent a few emails asking about it. No response. This is a first: loon sending the product and not cashing my check. Sent from my HD7 T9292 using Board Express

I almost hate to ask this as it's probably obvious but since I've just got my first boom pole with an internal coiled cable... Is there a "best" way to expand or collapse the pole (K-Tek Klassic) to avoid kinking the internal cable as much as possible? Is it best to start collapsing at the top (the end with the mic) or the bottom?

Interested in hearing what microphones people like to use for what situations? From microphone pick-up patterns, styles and type. Indoor/ Outdoor, dialogue or ambient/wild etc. Situations like: -Good microphones for unscripted dialogue, a few different people at once, -Wide, Medium, CU - shotgun vs. hypercardioid condenser -Boom Technique, staying on axis- aim of microphone to subject -using omni lavs with live active PA system -plant microphones Obviously there a numerous situations and lots of answers. Any input is appreciated.

If i pan a mic to ch1 and ch2 outputs, Channel one is about 6db-9db hotter. In the output setting, they are the same. When I send tone to camera, they are very close if not the same level. I have no problem with tone, it's with the individual channels. This only happens on all of the mic channels. I'm using a CL8. The output is going to lectro's for a hop. All of this gear is a rental.

Is anyone out in the sound world using either of the Senny 'minis' for reality or run 'n' gun doco stuff? I'm back on another reality show soon and looking for something to complement my trusty 416 that is easier on the ear indoors and easier on the arms everywhere! Had a brief try of a Schoeps but it lacked 'suck' and was ludicrously bass responsive. In fairness the latter might be down to poor choice of mount and lack of the LF cut module. If you are using either of the 80 range, how are you suspending them? Using the LF cut add on? Or is one of the short shotguns a better alternative? Many thanks! James

Looking at the kic with interest. I would love to hear about it. Real life experience. My questions are about: Humidity, reach, overall sound, max SPL. I have a Cs3e and would love to get something better sounding and robust. Had a MKH60 and like it but looking for smaller and lighter. Thanks Pascal

Hello everyone, I saw this photo on the Sound Devices website (http://sounddevices.com/products/7.htm) where what looks like a camera tripod has a bar attached to it, with two mics for what looks like an ambience recording setup. I go out to hike quite often and many times regretted not taking my mics & recorder, although the times I did take them I found out that the extra weight and bulk of the mic stand make it impractical for long hikes in rough terrain. Anyone have any experience with a similar setup? I´m guessing B&H probably has these bars or adapters (not sure how to do the search) but would like to hear from anyone who uses a good tripod se…

Hi all, So my questions run in two worlds. Im a member of IATSE 873 out in Toronto as a boom man and have double categorized myself in the recent month as I'm now outfitted with a full kit to at least start off by doing second unit mixing and possibly making a run at first unit mixing in the coming years. My question is to the zaxcom users. Has anyone tested out the ifb100 with the receivers for video village and also wondering if my camera hop (the QRX 100 with the sta 150 on the 900AA) can be used as transmission to the IFB receivers just as my setup now allows me to get time code and confidence via IFB from the QRX. The information is poor w zaxcom but I su…

Hey all, wanted to get some advice on upgrading my wireless... I know that I want to go the Lectro route, but I'm not sure whether to do one of the following: Used/New? If used, which generation? 400 or Sra series? Venue or Field? Sacrifice quantity for quality? I really like the idea of having 2 receivers in one small unit, makes my bag lighter which is much needed. Although, I've never worked with them so I'm not familiar with how they are. I've heard and worked with the field and it's pretty awesome, but not sure if I want to work with that big thing all the time. I've heard good/bad things about 200 series lectros, but better about 400 serie…

I was browsing the aisle's at my local fry's electronics and found one of these guys for 99 cents. My BDS has a usb port so i plugged it in and worked like a charm. Nice flexible gooseneck light for the bag for less than a buck. http://www.frys.com/product/5421199?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG Mine was like the one in the link, but black. I'm sure you could figure out a way to clip off the usb connector and use a normal BDS or whatever connector for your bag power supply. -Chase

I purchased an 01V96i a couple months ago and I recently noticed that there is some rather noticable distortion on the main outputs whenever the level reaches about -6db or higher. I was doubting myself so I took my 01V96i over to a "sound mixer's" friend's house who has an 01V96II. He also has a good ear and is very good techically. We set up both console exactly the same using a COS11 on Lectrosonics SMv wireless and a SRv receiver. On his console, no distortion. On mine, clearly a problem. It seems to be on every input (or maybe I should say on the output), and in fact we routed the main L&R to omni's 1&2, and the problem was still there. NOWHERE in…
