On January 28, 1986, seven astronauts “slipped the surly bonds of earth to touch the face of God.” America’s space program was never the same. Those who saw it never forgot: the Space Shuttle Challenger launched on January 28, 1986 only to break apart 73 seconds later, killing seven astronauts, including the first “teacher in space” – Christa McAuliffe. Retro Report revisits the tragic event – and the 2003 Columbia disaster — through interviews with key participants, and explores the forces that lead groups within large organizations to make dreadfully wrong decisions. www.retroreport.org

I think we can safely say there have been some pretty significant technological changes regarding the equipment we use today to make movies. On the set of "Cobra Woman", 1944 (and no, I didn't do that movie... I was asked to do "Cobra Woman II" but they wound up going to Romania and hiring locally).

I've found this cart during a documentary shoot in Setúbal - Portugal. The fisherman use them to transport their boat motors and fishing gear to their storage/workshop. Dropped my bag and boom just for the picture.

An Inside Look at the Insanely Complex Formula 1 Steering Wheel BY JORDAN GOLSON 05.07.14 The steering wheel of the Sauber C33 Formula 1. Everything a driver might need to do, and every bit of information he might need to know, is literally at his fingers. Photo: nph / Dieter Mathis/picture-alliance/dpa/AP Images The modern Formula 1 car is among the most amazing machines ever made. And when you’re going wheel-to-wheel with someone like four-time world champ Sebastian Vettel at 180 mph, you can’t take a hand off the wheel to do, well, anything. Every task a driver might need to do, every bit of information he might need to know, is quite lite…

Nowhere is the silence of electric vehicles more apparent than at the dragstrip. When Top Fuel cars regularly hit 150 decibels and shake your body to its core, their electric equivalents sail down the strip with an eerie silence. They're not quite as quick as 8,000-horsepower Top-Fuelers either, though Don 'Big Daddy' Garlits's new record proves they certainly aren't slow. According to Wired, Garlits and his electric dragster have just set a new 184.01 mph, 7.258-second quarter-mile at the Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida. That's a little short of the 200 mph pass Garlits was aiming for, but has still broken the previous record by 24.16 mph. Not many electric vehic…

Cool photo posted on Facebook Marriott at Beehive Cottage, Moreton, Essex (1966). Stephen Peter "Steve" Marriott (30 January 1947 – 20 April 1991) English musician, songwriter and frontman of two notable rock and roll bands, spanning over two decades. Marriott is remembered for his powerful singing voice which belied his small stature, and for his aggressive approach as a guitarist in mod rock bands Small Faces (1965–1969) and Humble Pie (1969–1975 and 1980–1981). Marriott was inducted posthumously into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 2012 as a member of Small Faces. In later life Marriott became disillusioned with the music industry and turned his back …
