Might be out of the jurisdiction of this community, but I thought I would try at least. I've been using an Expert trackball for years now (since my post sound days), and had it programmed fairly nicely for Pro Tools use.... thing worked great btw. I have recently upgraded to PT9, which also meant an upgrade of Mac, OS, etc..etc.. Anyways, all is working well other than the customization/programming of the Expert mouse. Hopefully those that edit out there that use one of these on a newer Mac have experience with the new driver software "Trackballworks". I finally found how to program keyboard "keys" to the mouse buttons, but I can't seem to find how to aim the setting…

I'm working on a project that might involve working with a borrowed Yamaha DM2000 mixer. Sorry for my ignorance here, but how does 24 tracks get though the mixer, and into a software app (metacorder or boom) on a Mac Laptop? The Yamaha has no FW (a talk with the Yamaha guys at NAB confirms this), so I'm assuming there's something I'm missing? ADAT? Thanks -Richard

Asked to bid on a video shoot. Recording multitrack as the bands play live to video (3 camera). Much like the "Sun Studio Sessions" or "ACL". I have a studio friend who records live bands with a laptop PC based software (not sure what) and a Behringer X32, I would provide the timecode with my 664 and feed to him, which he would put on a track. But I'm thinking of going the Boom Recorder (BR) with a Mackie Onyx 1640i mixer route. These are 'Bro' Country bands -all 4 piece with a singer or 2 so I should be fine with 16ch. 6 bands performing 1 song each. I deliver BWAV files the record label will do the post work. 99.999% of my work is Film -Television and video …

Being new to Mac I'm curios about writing the DVD's for film break and such. Is there a way to incrementally write to the DVD and close the session at break? Ron, How were you doing this with BoomRecorder? Larry

I recently purchased the Mackie 1620i. I plug it into my Mac Mini and when I plug in a mic I can hear a doubling effect on any input I use. How do I stop this. I had not have this happen using my alesis mixer. It's like my audio is looping through the mixer. Also I I push the solo buttons the effect is no longer heard. What do I need to do to correct this issue?

curious if anyone is using this and/or know if its compatible with boomrecorder or metacorder. http://www.mackie.com/products/1200f/index.html i thought the different routing options were neat. it seams that, if for some reason their is a computer issue, the routings will still work as well as the main outs. backup recorder and all the vairous feeds/ sends "should" work. thoughts?

Would the Mbox 2 micro and the bundled software (Pro-Tools 8/48 channels/48kHz/24 bit) be a good option for track laying? I'm not looking for any record-in options as all dialogue and fx are pre-recorded and this isn't something that I'd be using everyday, but the price for it is quite good and it's a unit that I can pick quite easily from retailers here. The last time that I used Pro-Tools was about 5 years ago so it's amazing to see something this small offering what it does. Any thoughts from users appreciated Damien

This is primarily addressed to Darren and others who may be using Metacorder and/or BoomRecorder on a daily basis. I have had lots of questions from quite a few people about both Metacorder and BoomRecorder, I guess with the assumption that I really know a lot about these things... maybe it is because I often seem like a "know it all" (but it isn't so... I know a lot but not all). I think it could be helpful if those who have had the experience could post the best setups they have arrived at, hardware interfaces, clocking issues and so forth, so that we could all benefit from those experiences. This is not vital but if anyone is so inclined I think it could be very us…

Hello, Yesterday I had my first day on the job working with Metacorder on a fast paced second unit TV gig. A Sound Devices 744T handles Master Timecode, Word Clock for a Yamaha 01V96 v2, & backup recording. A Lacie Rugged 500GB HD is the "Primary Record Drive" for Metacorder, while a Sound Devices XL-DVDRAM is selected as "Background Mirror". A second XL-DVDRAM is connected to the 744T. My explanation/questions: 1. While on a quick location move that requires me to strap into a truck I'd like to shut down the cart, but leave my MacBook in sleep mode so I can start back up quickly with a recognized DVD Ram "Background Mirror" available. Is this Possible…

Hi everyone, I have a question about upgrading Metacorder to Intel machines. Is version 1.5 the first universal binary release? I thought there another previous release that was universal binary... 1.3 ? 1.2 has been working great on the PPC machine... thanks, J

Hi, How many of us here actually use a HUI (Mackie/Euphonix/Tascam) together with the MBP and Metacorder with several interfaces available in the market? My Plan :- 1) MBP with SSD in the express card slot as the recording media of choice. Dailies on DVD-R 2) Metacorder with MHlab 2882+ and a Mackie HUI mod for 12V. 3) 702T as Backup and TC, Car scene, long walk and talk...........etc etc 4) Com line will be giving up 1 analog input on the MHlab 2882 and do some aux routing with the MIO software. Will like to hear some feed back on my setup, and also some idea on using a HUI on set. Alan Chong

Interesting item that could be the simplest way to hook up a microphone directly to the computer (Mac and Windows) http://centrance.com/products/mp/ "At home or on the road, MicPort's compact, USB-powered design offers maximum audio fidelity and minimal system configuration. Protected by a rugged chassis, MicPort's low-noise circuitry preserves high-quality audio. The onboard headphone jack delivers zero-latency monitoring via direct circuit. Mic gain and headphone volume adjustment couldn't be easier with MicPort's two conveniently located rotary controls." Regards, Jeff Wexler

New to the I/O settings on Pro-Tools 9 non-HD version. Can anyone tell me how to set it up so my Mix-Pre D is the USB interface for I/O? Thanks!

Hi fellow MixPre 10T users, Is anyone using their MixPre 10T as an interface into Logic, in full advanced mode? Have you found a fluid workflow? I'm finding the manual lacking when it comes to using the 10T in a multitrack music recording session with a typical DAW. I'm quite used to using the Apogee Maestro control software that controls my Duet, though only 2 channels. I gather that all the control of the MixPre 10T in USB interface mode is done strictly within the MixPre 10T machine itself? As someone already suggested, hopefully Sound Devices might come up with a software control panel. Just trying to wrap my head around the signa…

Greetings all, Modified the long html report that ships with Boom recorder. Changed it to more resemble something that say Wave Agent might produce.. The XML is tricky getting to the names for each track and haven't figured out a way to put them horizontal.. Anyway link directly below is an example of how it looks and included a link to the files needed to generate the report.. http://louisianafilmsound.com/boomrecorder/SoundReport.html Download the archive and put files into whatever folder you want, then point BR to this folder Archive that contains the modified .css and .xsl files http://louisianafilmsound.com/boomrecorder/ReportTemplate.zip Mark …

I was wondering if anyone here has had a chance to work with the latest MOTU 828mk3 FW interface? I need an affordable 8-channel A/D converter only (don't need mic pre-amps) and this looks pretty good. In particular I am interested in using it in location recording instead of a Traveler (slightly cheaper and I understand it is not capable of battery operation). 1. What should I use for a timecode source in long takes for video sync? 2. Thinking of purchasing Boom Recorder also, so how would I set the FW interface for a stable timebase? Mark Calice

Hello, I am currently trying to use 3 MOTU 896 mk 3 Hybrid units. Is anyone else doing this with a laptop? I was only able to get this to work by using both separate FireWire connections on my MacBook Pro. I made an aggregate device and linked 2 MOTU's off one FireWire port and one MOTU off the other FireWire port. Metacorder sees this no problem. But, is there a way to get all of my inputs to show up, post metacorder, on the headphone jack of just one MOTU box? Metacorder has no menu that allows me to select a signal path for my headphones out. Currently I have to use the 1/8" on the MacBook itself. It works, but is not ideal. Thanks for any assistance …

If you use, or are thinking about using, a MOTU interface, you may find this interesting. There is a company called "Black Lion Audio" that performs upgrades to the pre-amps and the clocks on several MOTU products. I don't often use the analog inputs of my Traveler but I'm always interested in having the best clock available so I have just sent mine in for modification. Here is a link to their website. http://www.blacklionaudio.com/motu_firewire_mod.html -Darren
