I’ve been using an old Deva IV for a backup recorder and really love metering off of it. The screen however doesn’t really get bright enough for a lot of the exteriors I’ve worked in. Are the later Deva screens any brighter and can they be put in an older Deva?

Was just curious if anyone uses the antenna outputs on the Venue for their TV tuner. I know these outputs are supposed to be "tuned" for the specific block (21-22 for me), but does it make that much difference for Modulus/Canatrans reception. Will it affect my wireless mic reception? Don't want to try it out and then mess up something inside the Venue. Thanks in advance, Robert

Hello, I am trying to learn the implications of using Pre or Post Fader options in recording the ISO tracks on the Sound Devices 633. It occurs to me that if the fader control on the 633 is after the ADC, or analog to digital conversion, then it may not matter if you increase the signal level in the mixer or in post, and if this is the case then using the Pre choice makes for a very safe recording level. If the Fader on the 633 is part of the analog domain prior to the ADC then I will probably have a differing opinion on which choice of Pre or Post Fader option I use for recording ISO tracks. Does anyone know if the fader on the 633 is analog or digital? I…

I was almost certain this worked before on an older firmware… I’m looking to use an iPhone and the USB-C socket on the 888 for some simple playback. Oddly it works with my iPad no problem, but I’d rather be able to slip a phone (not my phone - an older one for this sole purpose) in the bag when its not being used. Anyone have any wisdom on the subject? The iPhone doesn’t detect the 888 as an audio interface…I’m using an official USB-C to lightning cable. Thank you!

Hello, I'm trying to figure out what equipment I need to get sound from a wireless recorded to an SD card or something similar. I have eyes on a portable rack case, a power supply bar, and the receiver. I'm also looking at a preamp but that's where I need some advice, do I need anything else? I'm planning on getting a quiet generator for powering the power bar. I could use some help please.

Gentlemen.. If anybody knows about this I dare say they will reside here. My friend has a couple of AKG 451's, I've always quite liked to use these (in a live environment) but now they develop noise after about,.. well anywhere between 5 and 30 minutes and therefore are now rendered redundant. Do we have any experience of this issue ? It would be nice to be able to restore them to their former glory and put them back to work.. All the best

Hello all. i have bought some years ago a psc earpiece with the neckloop. all was fine. This is my first post and I can honestly say this site is very informative and I've taken a lot of advice from several postings. I thought I'd share my experience in some Low Profile Cables I had made recently. The Low Profile XLR -> TA3F Cables were built by Matt Radlauer over at http://www.clearcutaudio.com/custom-cables/. I am very pleased and highly recommend his cables. The PayPal payment process was seamless as well as the turnaround time.

just got my 744t back from being updated to 2.10. i remember hearing/reading that one new feature with the version 2 software was that one can cancel recordings. looking at the SD site though, i couldn't find any specific literature that would explain how to do this (though i figured it out, just by messing around with key combinations) is there a new 744t manual out there that exists online that i can download and print? i tried looking on the SD website...but couldn't find anything. thanks -greg-

For helicopter comms recording, I usually take an output straight from the comms jack (NATO usually) and into my 744t via a 20dB attenuator, which obviously works fine. I'm thinking of using a spare TRXla or ZFR recorder in it's place (sometimes it's tricky to safely mount the 744, especially with the seats out/doors off). Theoretically I should be able to just plug the NATO to XLRm cable straight into a line input lead (I have some for my Wisycoms) and all should be well, right? Anything I'm missing here? I know there's no interference issue as talent always have some form of Zax recorder on in helicopters, but I'm obviously not going to be able to test this out…

I have been running around with the Zoom F4, and it's cool how much it does for the price point. Has anyone had some major issues with it out of the box? I'm a whole number behind with the firmware, but didn't read any of my issues in the known issues literature for the updates. A big one is getting the wrong channel PFL like it's bleeding through or routed improperly. But there is no way to re-route it the way it was working. Two tracks also shows up as a stereo track in Premiere even though they are both centered and should be recording polyphonic files. If I arm a third track that is blank it shows up properly as a three track poly. Anyway... that's n…

I've been trying to find this by searching the web, Lectro's home page, and here... looking for the part that sits around the XLR connector on the plug-on transmitters. Is this something that could be picked up at a local hardware store? Anyone know the part number, or proper name/specs? (yes, a call to Lectro on Monday, but this went missing today, and I'm shooting tomorrow as well) Thanks in advance!

Does anyone here in Los Angeles (or perhaps in Canada?) have a working system to do a single tape transfer on a Sony 1630? I have someone (in Canada) who purchased a tape on eBay and would like to convert it for listening. Minor monetary compensation awaits you If you have any leads feel free to contact me directly or comment here. Thanks!

AWill be doing a testdrive of c2c on the upcoming project. Everything is set up and working under lab conditions. But to make it work under reallife conditions with fluctuating or nonexistent network performance, there are some things quite unclear. There will be days/locations when LTE network will be weak or nonexistent. In the case of this project, the cloud backup wont be too time critical. Files from different recording folders can be uploaded some days later without problem. Main goal: every recorded file is in the cloud by the end of the project. Is it possible to mirror a whole project folder including all the subfolders in the…

I am building a small ( as in first ) cart and looking at the different approach that you guys are taking in building your RF distro system. Since i have to remain ready for bag based work and will share equipment in between the to type of jobs, here is a breakdown of my equipment. 5 Lectrosonics UCR411A, mounted in a Portabrace RM multi deluxe with DC distro ( ending with an XLR4 for power thru cart distro or NP1 cup ). Sound Devices 788T with CL8 ( one day it will be a CL9 ). Comtek M216opt7 ( for boom op ). Lectrosonics LMa TX ( for Camera hop mono ). Here is my idea thus far: An SKB 12 rack space containing Receivers and recorder. One R…

Hello JWsoundgroup! My 633 died, and resurrected a couple of days later. Then it worked fine for a long time, until it died again. Turns out it was a bad connection in the DC-plug. Is this a general problem with the 633? Have anyone experience the same?

Hey all, Have any of you jammed timecode into a Atomos Inferno? I'm working on a shoot that has one. It's on a FS700 connected by SDI. I'm using Zaxcom ERX for jamming. I get an error message saying the frame rate doesn't match. Yes I checked everything like three times to make sure it matches. I tried adjusting the output voltage. I read the manual. I've now left three messages with Atomos and they haven't got back to me yet. Any I ideas or thoughts would be helpful thank you.

Hello, for a new project, I have to keep in sync 3 SD 664.The master TC comes from the OB truck and the 3 ENG crews are going on the field for more than 5 hours, and come back to the truck for the rest of the show. What is the best way to keep them in sync? 24 run continuous TC (set with the master TC) or free run continuous? I don't really understand the difference if I set the TC at the beginning of the day? Many thanks for your help.

Most offerings of boom poles have short sections and 4 - 6 of them with them being usually under 30" sections. I have a 6 section pole. I'm wondering if for some applications, I'd prefer a 4' section and only 3 sections. I'm thinking that fewer sections to lock and unlock would be preferable. If I don't need the pole to be compact, why not use a longer section? Thoughts?

Hi I just purchased a used Lectrosonics wireless setup and the M-140 has a bad termination. The NYC store I purchased it at won't back up the deal - they said this used gear is "AS IS." I need to get the mic fixed - any place recommended and what should that cost. Seems straight forward. THANKS!!!
