I read that the Sonosax SX-R4+ recorder differs in the USA from the European version. Is it the same for the SX-M2D2 that the US version is different from the European one?

Correct, it doesn't record. (although you could use something as simple as your phone over USB to record together with it)

So wonderful quality.

Back is full of male like 80's SF convention.This is easy to clean.

It cannot bypass AD/DA , cannot send balanced line signal.
but seems to be a trivial matter.

This is how I use it. My HD25 cans have a right angle connector as well. So everything is highly accessible and easy to use with no stress on the cables.

I modified a Peak design bag (the field pouch) and this is what it looks like. And once the recordings are done, everything goes inside! (except the headphones ok ..)

I use the iPhone as a recorder and there is a small power bank that powers the M2D2 and the iPhone.

But for those yet to jump on the treadmill ... Red Port Left, Green Starboard Right, as per my Nagra and Neve PPMs (and every ship and plane in existence).

They're bringing out an ultra small recorder, but I assume it would be via the 3.5mm input, not USB

+1, yep, yes and definitely. I'm pretty sure so many of us would have bought 1 in a heart beat if had a built in recorder. I'm not going to say they missed an open goal because maybe there was something like a legal reason not do this - anyway here's to something like an R2D2 if ever happens.

Sonosax decided to build the best mini preamp they could do today.  Adding a pro recorder would have mean TC, more power, more mechanics, more developping time and more $$$.
