Hi All Is there the option to have SMV's to power up when the Mic is plugged in, we are having to give costume Dept the Tx's and Mic's each night for the following morning, I have been used to Audio Ltd's which function that way, what I am trying to avoid is the fuss associated with pressing the 2 buttons deep within a period costume. I know there is the sleep function but 11ish hours would probably be a bridge too far. Regards Brian

I have a situation I am trying to solve with the equipment I have at hand but there seems to be a flaw somewhere: Two condenser mics (Oktava MK012) will be planted on a table. Phantom power is provided to them by a Denecke PS-2. Its out are connected via mic out cables to two Lectro LMas. Now the signal I receive (via a SRa) is extremely noisy. I thought it might be the mic out cables (XLRf to TA5f) but they work well when I plug a dynamic microphone onto them/the LMa (without the PS-2). So I connected the PS-2 outputs directly to my mixer and it sounded good, no noise like with the LMas. So the last part of the chain would be the LMas but they work flawlessly with…

Well, this topic is somewhat inspired by the future of mixers thread. But my thoughts are somewhat beyond, so I'd decided to start a new thread that might inspire the industry and DIY people out there and expresses my regular.... "dreams". 1. My first and biggest concern is, why do we need this hawker's tray pregnancy straining our backs? The input mixing and recording parts along with batteries could well fit in a backpack, with only a remote unit handheld or even boom mounted. The last could be either some serial copperwires or bluetooth/wifi connecion. The drawback might be some sort of latency to fight against, but at least, our backs are physically drawn …

Here is another sort of cool cheap digital mixer / recorder. It does support some sort of MIDI MTC timecode, but looks like it only supports "Music 30" which I'm guessing is appropriate for 44.1k music projects. I could see using this as a backup recorder and for sending scratch track and IFB audio feeds. It looks like the smart channel strip controls are intelligently laid out and proof that one doesn't need to resort to iPad interfaces to achieve basic digital mixer functionality. It also has some interesting playback abilities, with marker / locate functionality, MTC master, and simple CD playback for wrap music.

I'm using another mixers 744t for a few days and the date and time needs to be reset each time I start it up. I imagine there is an internal battery that needs changing but wanted to run it by you folks here. I tried calling SD, but they're closed on the weekend. Is there any issues aside from the inconvenience of resetting the date/time daily I should be aware of? Is it an easy fix to change this battery(if that is indeed the issue)?

I am getting ready to build a banded antenna cable to use when I move my antenna boom closer to set, rather than run multiple cables. Just wondering what length would be recommended both in practical terms (having enough length for feature work) and functional terms (not losing too much signal) I was thinking 75-100 feet? Using Belden 9258 with powered sharkfins, Lectro Venues and Lectro T-4 IFB. Hoping LarryF can chime in here as well. Thanks...

One of the Red Camera regulars recently posted a message about a Zacuto (DSLR camera accessory manufacturer) website columnist who wrote a piece that essentially says: "don't bother using expensive wireless microphones. Instead, get a cheap solid-state recorder like a Roland or Zoom recorder, put it on the actor, wire them up with a lav, roll the recorder, and let it go." Here's a sample: "The disadvantage of wireless is a huge deal to filmmakers. You have no control over possible interference, dropouts, and most wireless systems only carry the signal. They do not actually record it. The signal to noise ratio is noisier than a wired signal because the transmitte…

I just received an email invite to a Zax demo from Trew-Coffey, that contained this statement, regarding Zax wireless mic systems: >>We will also show you how the system eliminates dropouts through digital modulation and isolated recordings on body pack transmitters - removing the possibility of audio loss due to white space interference.<< I'd love to come to this demo, but can't be in LA that day (Feb 18). However, there are many Zax wireless users here, so I thought I'd ask how this actually works in practice (not the circuit design etc, but the results). Does digital modulation allow a wireless to operate properly on the same freq/block as a TV…

AES42 users, What boom pole cable do you use? Would regular 12ft Loon Boom be short enough for trouble free AES42 operation. Or do I need 110ohm AES cable? If so where can I find coiled AES cable? Thanks

Just an FYI for anyone that has lost the screw-in 1/8inch to 1/4 inch adapter supplied with the headphone only to find it not lised on any Sony website (that I could find) can use these $4 adapters made for KRK headphones that screw in to an MDR7506 and work just fine. Sorry I am a Lectro novice here in the UK. Could someone explain why the 200b/c transmitter models are not compatible with the new SR receivers? I know the new generation are digital hybrid but they have various compatibility modes? I assume it is compounder related but have been unable to find a definitive answer. Cheers

Any Cameo users know where I can find the pin configuration for the "Aux AES out" db-25 pin connector on the back of the Zaxcom Cameo mixer ? I assumed it was just a duplicate of the main AES out, but when I use the cable harness I had built for that output on the Aux output, it's not working. Theres also nothing in the Cameo user manual about the AUX AES output.

I think I know the answer to my own question, but I am looking for a little real-world confirmation. Does the SDI output on an XDCam (f800) carry all 4 channels of audio or just the 2 being monitored? I have scoured the manual and I can't seem to find the answer.

I cannot afford a MHK416 just yet so a Rode NTG-3 seems to be a decent high(ish) quality alternative (better than a Sennheiser ME66) particularly for outdoor work. Am I correct in thinking this? Can someone recommend a mic, similar in audio quality to the NTG-3, that would be similar to the Sennheiser ME64 (i.e. cardioid or hyper-cardioid, better for boom work indoors)? I figure that some will say "get a Schoeps" or such like but that would be, for the moment, not affordable. I'm trying to build up the gear slowly. Thanks in advance.

I have a couple of UCR 201s One is ver 2.0 and one is 4.0 The ver 2.0 I am seeing no setup screen on the menu or no exit screen. The unit works fine as far as changing freqs but seems to be missing pages in the menu. Is this because it is a earlier model or does it needs service ? ( I did buy the unit used ) I see posts from senator posting "did you try the secret master reset " Is there such a thing? If so could you please pm me with the secret or any other ideas on this unit Thanks so much Tom Maloney

I am finally getting around to replacing most of my UM400a's with SMV's and was wondering what folks out there are using to attach them to talent. I have rented them plenty of times. They usually come with the leather pouches which protect, but are bulky. Seems counter intuitive for most applications especially for something that was designed to be small and easy to hide on talent. At the moment I am thinking wire upward facing belt clips for quick attachment and neo straps when they need to be hidden under shirt or pant leg. What has worked best for you in the variety of environments with the multitude of challenges we face.

I started using Powerex AA for shorter work days. For long days I still prefer the Lithiums. I searched this forum and the MAHA website and I found that Powerex does not have memory effect. The last 4 days I noticed that if I charge an almost full AAs I only get 2.5 hours with my SMQV before I see a red light. I checked if the TX is setup to 250mW but it is not. All AAs are brand new from the same order coming straight from MAHA. Anybody experienced something similar? Also do you guys discharge them before charging?
