Hello everyone, It seems that Boom Recorder 7.25.3 is working on Lion, although I haven't spent to much time working with it. Right now I am trying to finish Boom Recorder 8.0.0 and get it on the App Store. Boom Recorder 8.0.0 will only work on Lion; this is because I wanted to use some new APIs. Next to a lot of small changes, the biggest changes are in the meters: - Optional vertical meters - Optional names on the meter, so that there is more room when using a lot of channels. - Optional maximum peak meter, which only resets once you click in the meter (sort of like a clipping indicator). Cheers, Take

SoundStudio software has been returned to the developer, Felt Tip Software, after it was being distributed for a few years by FreeVerse (a game developer). There is a new version out available from the MacApp Store for $29.00. There is no upgrade policy from v. 3.x to the new version 4.x but the price of $29.00 is essentially what SoundStudio upgrades were in the past. Also, once purchased through the MacApp Store, future updates will be free. I know a lot of people say just use Audacity, it's free, cross platform, etc., but I have never preferred Audacity over SoundStudio. I highly recommend SoundStudio for anytime simple 2-track program is needed. Notes from F…

Hi all! We´ve just updated our Pro Tools HD 3 PCIe to HD Native 9 and we´ve found that Apogee didn´t update its firmware to work with new Avid protocol. Yeap: looks horrible for us. We really have big investment in Apogee converters and what is more important; we are really use to these interfaces. PT 9 recognizes them but these doesn´t receive neither transmit any audio. We connect them through X-HD cards...

I remember (maybe 5 or 6 years ago) when I used Adobe Audition, I recall it being an awesome editing system except it didn't feature SMPTE timecode at that time. I'm wondering if Audition these days now feature it. And if so, can the program downconvert files from Bwf to MP3s while preserving the timecode on the file? Any info about the program or any other programs that can do what I'm inquiring about would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and I am PC based! Thanks!

I recently purchased a 15" Macbook Pro (Version 8 with Thunderbolt, etc.). It has OS X 10.6.7 installed, and I haven't been able to get MLAN Auto Connect to work. Any ideas? I'm also using a FW800 to 400 cable to plug into the MY16 card.

Not sure if this is the right area to post in but I'm looking for info on the AKAI LPD8 midi controller http://www.akaipro.com/lpd8 If someone could point me in the direction on "how to map midi controllers to wave files" would be great. What I'm trying to do is turn this controller (and my Mac Book Pro) into a "360 Shortcut". I would like to assign wave files to the pads to play them as sound effects or even music for playback situations on set. I have Pro Tools but have never dealt with the midi side of things. Thanks Andy

Is there any bleed of time code onto another track if I am constantly jamming Boom Recorder? Should I skip a track between the time code and audio channel just in case?

Hi Group, I have to start a show at the last minute and they are requesting 30ndf 48048 24bit. I've read all the posts and will be setting up like this 744T 48048 30ndf as master clock/sync source. Boom Recorder TC 29.97, clock set to spdif from 744t, hardware sample rate 48K, file sample rate 48K. Motu Ultralight is acting as a pass through for TC to analogue track on Boom Recorder. I think this is the "proven cheat" way of setting up Boom Recorder to record 48048. Any Comments? Many thanks, Patrick

Anyone used this? Is it any good? or am i better off using a "T" connector from a 744t into a fireface 800 and an octopre? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/547600-REG/ART_SYNCGEN_SyncGen_Wordclock_Sample.html

Hi there, I am looking to create a Fireface 800 rig for use with Boom Recorder that can either be used on location using a 2.66ghz, 4gb ram dual core Macbook Pro 15" (no express card) + two Focusrite Octopre's for up to 26 Analogue inputs. I would also like to be able to chain a Lacie Rugged drive via FW 800 to this setup. MBP FW800 port > Fireface 800 (2X Octopre's connected via adat) > Lacie Rugged Drive - bus powered I would also like to be able to expand this system to 52 inputs, by using two FF800's + four Octopre's connecting the FF800's via separate firewire cables to a Mac Pro (quad or 8 core, depends on my budget). Mac Pro Firewire 800 po…

Hey all, I got an email from post and one of my BR poly files is bad. I checked my copies and it is very strange. The file has one frame of audio, is 0:00 long (one frame) - but the file is three hundred something megs, which is correct for it's length (Or the length it is supposed to be). I've had similar problems before (never with Boom Recorder) and I've used soundhack to fix the header, but it won't work this time. Any thoughts? I'm guessing it's just simply a bad file, but if anyone has encountered this issue and found a fix (or that there isn't one) please help. I'm looking around but not seeing anything that matches my situation :-/ Thanks!

I was, once upon a time, an enthusiastic Cool Edit Pro user. Around the time I was switching over to Mac's, Adobe acquired Cool Edit, and it continued as a Windows only editor. I switched to Pro Tools long ago, but I was excited to see the Beta release of Audition for Mac today. I haven't had much time to delve into the developments that have taken place over the past years, but I'm super excited as this was once a very featured piece of software and I suspect it is more powerful now! I don't think I'll be switching back from PT any time soon (especially with the developments in 9), but it's always good to keep an eye on the options. The beta release is availa…

Hello! I was recommended here by a very helpful video guy on the filmmaking.net forums. I work with groups of teenagers in our area and every year or so we make a short film. We have tried to increase our scope each year making better, longer films. On our last project I realized that audio quality was a major problem. I know very little beyond what I've picked up or read on places like this. For our last project we ran a condenser mic on a boom pole and an old ld studio mic on a stand into a cheap Behringer mixer. From the mixer I ran the audio back into one of the two Panasonic HD Camcorders we were using. The quality was pretty bad and this time we want to do…

I was just trying to use an apple remote to roll boom recorder. It does indeed work, but it launches iTunes every time I hit play (record). Anyone know of a way to prevent this? The boom recorder manual says just to have iTunes closed - nothing more. Thanks, -Greg-

Hello all, I'm going to be upgrading my computer soon to a new MacBook Pro (15"/2.66GHz Intel Core i7/8GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB/500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm) and would like to be able to use it as a location recorder when the chance arises. I know at these specs that the computer should be up to almost any challenge (I'm buying at these specs because I do other work outside of sound that demand heavy work from a computer). Boom recorder seems to be the right choice of software for the job at hand (only need the lite version for starters. 128 channels on a 3 crew doco won't be happening any time soon!) but I'm a plainly out of my depth when it comes to audi…

Hello there, I have just released 7.25.2 and 7.25.3, the first release addresses a problem with playback of many mono files. If you had issues where Boom Recorder would play the audio silently this may solve the problem. It is a quick fix that may not actually help, but I am hoping it will. There are also some fixes to small bugs which the new compiler found for me. The second release of course includes the fix in 7.25.2 as well, but also raises the maximum number of channels you can record to 256. It seems there are customers who think 128 channels are not enough, the change was easy enough so there we go. Both versions are compiled with a new compiler mak…

Yes.. I've been operating with BR v7.25.1 the last 4 weeks after Take made a revision for an issue I had, massive help he was . Anyways... I'm having some problems with sync and some pretty bad drift between files recorded on the 702T and BR, let me quickly explain the set-up: 702T is the master TC clock outputting the TC signal and word clock to a Motu Traveler which in turn is connected to a MacBook Pro running BR v7.25.1. BR's sample rate and bit depth are set identical to what the 702T is, and BR is recognizing the TC signal and clocking perfectly to what the 702T is outputting. This should all ensure that files created from BR would sync to those created on t…

Hi, I was wondering if anyone still uses Boom Recorder with Tiger, and if there are any stumbling blocks to change to Leopard? I understand upgrading to Snow Leopard is not be possible because of G4 notebooks that are still in the field. Cheers, Take

I'm having some troubles getting TC from a 744t to a Motu 828Mk3 - specifically to do with 23.976 TC rate. The Motu SPMTE Setup app seems to read incoming TC at every other frame rate but 23.976...once I switch the 744t and the 828 to 23.976, the clock stops moving. It does generally switch over to different TCs when I switch it on the 744t (I get a pop-up window letting me know it's getting a different TC rate) - sometimes it detects the new incoming rate properly, and sometimes it doesn't. And sometimes it even notices when I've switched the 744t to 23.976 - and then it does the same thing - stops counting. This happens not only when I use an analog input on the…

I record a lot of talking heads using MS stereo. I use a mid cardioid and a coincident figure 8 to do this. Currently I decode things manually by duping the figure 8 'side' track and inverting phase etc. in my DAW. I'd like to know if anyone can point me to a low cost VST plug in that would enable me to more elegantly decode and control the final stereo image... Many thanks in advance, fellow sound guys!

Hello everyone, I have just made Boom Recorder 7.24 available for limited distribution. It is limited because I do not yet know if this version works on all the equipment out there. I currently only have Snow Leopard, but it should still work on Tiger and Leopard as well. And although I've tested it, there may be some new bugs introduced between 7.22 and this version. This version solves the problem with sound reports not being generated on Snow Leopard. This had to do with a new version of the xslt library which no longer allows whitespace in certain parts of the .xsl files. For anyone who is still interested after what you know now, you can download it fr…
