I had been using an SRB 2 SMVs as a camera hop, never had an issue with phantom power frying unit...moved away when I saw DCHT/M2R combo but got burned with Phantom power and no true line level!! I am doing mostly scratch track and recording internally, what units don't get fried buy+48 hitting them? Do i go Zaxcom, Lectro L series wideband, Sony UWP, Sennheiser? Thoughts

Hello, i'm considering buying the Wisycom MCR54 and I have a doubt about it. I would like to know if I can power the MCR54 receiver directly with a V Mount battery ("SWIT PB-M45S" 14.4V - 45Wh - 3.1Ah) that I already use to power my audio recorder (Sound Device MixPre10 ll) I would just add a Dtap splitter to have an extra connection, so it will be: V Mount Battery > Dtap Male to dual Dtap Female Splitter cable > Dtap to Hirose 4 Pin cable > MCR54 Is this a safe solution or do I risk burning something? Thanks!

ETS has a line of CAT-5 baluns specifically designed for audio. Using a pair of these provides a good 4-way snake, an alternative to 4-pair, XLR standard cable snakes. I have built lots of 4-way snakes to use like a stage box where I can make one long run from the cart to the set and connect 2 duplex boom cables (I know, everyone is using wireless boom so this doesn't matter to most) and possible a plant mic. It would make it much simpler to make a single CAT-5 run. Also useful as a snake when doing car rig stuff. The baluns each have 4 XLR's and these can be 4 males on one end, 4 females on the other, or 3 males, 1 female each end (for a monitor send --- really just a se…

Hi everyone, Kind of an urgent issue because I have a shoot tomorrow morning, and I’m hopeful that this is simple user error as I’m still relatively new to lectros. I rented out a 4 channel system earlier today. 4 smdwb transmitters. 2 sra dual receivers. The pilot tone light is blinking on both SRA’s, all 4 channels. They don’t see the transmitters at all. I’ve tried scanning thru smart tune, I’ve tried it manually. They are set to the same frequency, by hand and IR sync. I’ve verified the transmitters and receivers are both set to NU HYBR compatibility mode. I’ve turned off the pilot tone to get static in on the SRa’s and…

As I was reading the Zaxcom Stereo Goldline Receiver manual, I noticed they recommend using Ni-MH AA's for powering. I understand that that is the earlier model Zaxcom, but Lithiums were out then right? So it got me to thinking. What are the mAh's of our batteries? With some research I discovered that Alkalines average 2700-2850 mAh's, Lithiums are 3000 mAh's, and the highest Ni-MH I found was 2900 mAh's. So what is it that keeps the Lithiums lasting longer? Chemistry? I would love to be completely rechargeable (already loving the iPowers), but have never found a Ni-MH that has the juice. But after doing the research on Alkalines and Lithiums, it seems I found one that is…

A basic question for you all : what is the best shockmount for M88TG ? Shure A55M ? Rycote INV-7 (std or mkIII) ? Audio-Technica AT8415 ? PSC M5 Pro looks quite good too, but I don't find any reseller in Europe... I didn't find the answer in the group archives, but maybe the topic has already been traited in the past.

A fellow mixer and I was discussing Rx/Tx antennas and orientation. How it's best to have the receiver antennas in the same direction as the transmit antenna for best possible signal. So I looked at his bag, and all of his receiver antennas are bent over due to whatever cause(packing, transport, etc). I know you've seen it, mine did that also. They never keep their shape. Some end up bent together, some splayed apart. Some practical horizontal with enough usage. So I thought I'd bring up the remote audio whip antennas that don't bend. He scoffed, saying way expel more money when it doesn't matter. So I brought up our previous talk about orientation, and pointed out that h…

Anyone have experience? They lower SPL above 99db without a weighting limiter so frequency response should be about the same, just limited. http://europe.beyerdynamic.com/shop/media/infomaterial/SPOTONTECHNOLOGY_LIMITER_IBC09_E.pdf Looking at this headset. Based on DT 770 Pro 250's which I have used for a couple of years now and love. Available in versions with and without a limiter: http://north-america.beyerdynamic.com/shop/dt-797-ltd.html

Hi, I have two Venues, I want to loop throught the antenna, if I set the antenna power jumpers on for both unit, could that be a problem? I want to do that, because I use them separatle sometimes as well. But not sure that the Venue can handle that power what it suddenly gets from theother BNC in to it's BNC out. Thanks

does anyone have experience trying to fix the older model beyerdynamic mc736 short shotgun? Noticed a rattling in mine and realized that a screw must have fallen into the interference tube. When I went to unscrew the other 2 screws they fell in as well Considering those 3 screws are no longer holding anything in place and I unscrewed the back screw that I assume holds the xlr connector in place - I would think I could get inside the mic to get these screws out or take a look at the mic. All four screws are out and I can't get any pieces (back or front) of the mic to unscrew or pull out, so I figure I'm missing a key element to opening up the mic. If an…

I have a possible upcoming job starting on Wednesday, which would entail using at least a 4-channel mixer in a bag (ENG/Run&Gun - 2 lavs on talking heads & either a boom or 2 more lavs on guests/talent)... I currently use a Wendt X3, which works quite well for most everything I've done to date (Indy flicks). I know the different mixer options (SD 442, SD 552, Wendt X4, PSC AlphaMix) but I have a couple of questions: 1) If I rent a mixer - should I rent the Wendt X4, since I'm familiar with the layout, or go with the SD 442 since it is the preferred mixer? 2) If I rent - who's the closest to Boise, ID that can ship the quickest? If I buy a mixer I know…

Filled up all 6 inputs, but I don't have a CL6. But hey, I have a 302! Yay! I'll probably need all 3 of those inputs, so is it possible to run that 302's mix out to the 664's link I/O? It probably just dumps it into the mix right? I'm probably confusing myself so sorry if this sounds like rambling. Thanks Matt

maybe we have had it all wrong...?? backwards ?? I just got the Sept '010 issue of P3 Update (mostly about locations). they tend to have a monthly group of articles about the "departments", and one of them is Audio. I went to the website www.p3update.com, but the latest article is not openly posted. It is written by Gordon Meyer, and although I do not know him, he has written a number of these articles. In this months article, he writes about "veteran Soundman MacAulay Flynt" (I do not know him, either), on a million dollar SAG production in NC; actors include Edward Furlong, Edward Asner, and Meat Loaf. The only picture shows Mr. Flynt with a bag rig on a Pelican …

Dear group, few days ago, I had a gig where 2 dpa slims failed because the actor was sweating doing some excercises. I let them dry out, but one of them now sounds very thin, distant and has a lot of self noise. Before I send it to repair, do you have any suggestion how it can be fixed? Thank you! Hrvoje R

Hi! Do you know if there's a specific name within the rycote world for this spare part I need for my dpa windshield? Also, do you know any place that can sell me the piece? I'm located in Mexico and the local reseller option won't work. Thank you, Axel.

I already have the Rain Cover, but for longer windshield, such as that for a Neumann KMR 82 or shorter, as for a Schoeps CMC641, there are other similar products with the same effectiveness? Sergio.

I know this has probably been talked about over and over again but I've been operating out of a sound bag for a few years now and am looking to branch out to a bag/cart setup then eventually a full cart. I'm looking for a small and hopefully cost effective control surface for my 633. Do I have to use a sound devices product or will basically any control surface/board do the trick? I like the Cl-12 but it's a bit big and pricey. Any help is greatly appreciated always make yourself better!

Since it would seem that Lectro doesn't make a battery eliminator door for the LM transmitters, has anyone here had luck with drilling there own hole in the bottom of the standard battery door ? I can't be the only one who wants to power there IFB tx, from a "BDS" of other similar dc distro system.

Anyone have an issue with their Smart Mono Charger? Mine turns on, and displays the current battery info - and then just sits there. It goes through the motions on screen like it is charging - but none of the meters have changed, nor does the battery show its been charged. Any thoughts?

Please don't have any comparison of how different brands of wireless systems behave in the disturbance of measuring systems like Cine tape etc ... I have heard that for example the digital Sennheiser 6000 series is immune to it. I own an analog Sennheiser and interference occurs quite often. Did anyone have a chance to compare if there is a difference in interference Sennheiser, Lectrosonic, Wisycom? Thank you very much.

As many of you know I am not a big Fostex fan so it is no surprise to me that I had not even heard of this mixer/recorder from Fostex. I first saw it featured in the current Coffey Sound magazine. Is there anyone here who knows more about this item and why it does not seem to have been mentioned or talked about at all in our world. Just curious. Regards, Jeff Wexler

hey guys, so i bought a cl-wifi when it first came out with the hopes of running it as an eternal metering system and information view for my machine. the wi-fi lag is proving to be kind of annoying and since i don't have or want an ipad, i'm stuck using my cellphone as my meter. does anyone know if sound devices plans on just making an external meter/screen for the 788 that would just plug right into the machine, no idevice required? maybe some bindable buttons on the side? you know, like this thing: http://www.sounddevices.com/products/pix.htm thanks, joe

Does anyone have any advice or information on the best way to clean the connections on a Schoeps CMC 4/5/6 and the capsules (MK41 specifically)? I have a CMC4 that was modded by Pete Verrando to P48, so apparently Schoeps won't clean/service it. I had an issue with humidity when using it a couple months back and I have read that it may be because there is some dirt or debris on the connection. I am going to be putting a Cut 1 filter in place so I'd like to get the connections all cleaned up and then leave it screwed together to protect against further humidity issues. Update: I found this short piece from Redding Audio: http://www.reddingaudio.com/downloads/Sc…
