Hey guys, looking at this 4 channel receiver for use in cart and bag. The price point is the same as buying 2 SRC’s but it has way more functionality than SRC’s. Anyone tested it? I would be using it with existing smv’s and smqv’s I would also loop thru antennas with existing venue on the cart. thoughts?

Gentlemen, As you all know, i am putting together ( feels like a neverending story ) my feature package. There has been a lot of discussion regarding new Timecode system using wireless technologies, WIFI network, IOS support etc... We have done good with using simple, yet effective, timecode generators in the past ( Ambient, Denecke, Horita etc... ) but there seem to be new avenue coming and would like to start a topic on this. I believe we can split the systems in different categories: 1- OLD SCHOOL. System using simple TImecode Generator and TImecode Slate. All sync via a master source, manually, usually every 6 hours. MFG Denecke, Ambient, Horita etc.. …

I purchased two TL-40 Lavs last week one in black and one in white. Upon using the lavs for the first time I was impressed by the build quality and how white the white lav is. The shade is much lighter than my white Sanken cos-11. The Lav head is about the size of a B3 but thankfully doesn't sound like a B3 or B6 microphone. It actually has a very flat and uncolored sound which I like it can also take alot of SPL. I had a very loud talent wired today and never had any mic level distortion at all or had to adjust the transmitter input gain to prevent overload. Just like the B3 or Cos-11 it was very easy to conceal and I found the cable to be of good construction. Overall I…

http://ironfilm.co.nz/leaked-is-a-new-sound-devices-mixpre-10t-coming-soon/ The clues appear to point in that direction! Would be a 10 track recorder priced somewhere between the MixPre-6 and 633, I assume.

Hey crew. Will try to bring you up to speed with my thoughts / needs and hoping for some opinions. Sorry if this post is a little all over the place. I have been using a Fostex PD-6 for some years now and frankly love it aside from a few things. Namely the time consuming data transfer at the days end, and some specific functionalities. Have always ogled over other mixers using the Devas and feel like I'd much prefer Zaxcom than a Sound Devices. I am primarily a cart mixer however the past few shows have required fast switching between cart and portabrace bag set ups. Therefore I have built a smaller "bag cart" and been mixing without the EX-12 extension…

first 2 days out of 21 with my new TRX 742 are done. Works great, adjusting gain from my Fusion - that was much missed with my TRX700. It needs quite some batteries. We´ve got around 0 deg at the moment (still no spring) and with Eneloop Nimh 1900mAh I needed 3-4 sets (3 each) for a 12h shooting day. here is an article on S&P: http://soundandpicture.com/2013/04/a-look-at-the-zaxcom-trx742-plug-on-transmitter/

My Nomad 6 delivered recently. I tested extensively at home without detecting any problems. I took it out on my first job last week and had some serious issues. In the middle of recording a scene it stopped processing audio. I heard an audible pop, as if it was shutting down but it kept recording silence. A warning came up: "dangerously low external voltage". At this point my voltage meter read 0.0 and the interface was haywire. My NP1 battery had been reading 14.5 volts or so before this incident and I had internal batteries installed. I had tested the internal batteries previously by hot swapping an NP1 and the until didn't miss a beat. I swapped out CF cards a…

This is a totally basic question but I have been struggling with this for some time so I thought I'd ask people who are smarter than me. I have COS11Ds and B6's as my lav mics. I CONSTANTLY struggle with fabric rustling/rub noise both direct, secondary and sometimes even tertiary. I've tried numerous techniques; often to no avail Some things that seem to work (at least some of the time): Placing outside shirt on a clip. B6 above the button hole sometimes helps as long as the shirt's not too starched, etc... Doing a football of gaff tape and keeping the mic anchored to shirt and/or chest sometimes works. Things that never seem to work: T…

One thing I find confusing (or at the very least odd) is the assortment of output connectors on this unit. It states there are 2 sets of 4 sma outputs --- 4 to serve antenna A, 4 to serve antenna B. The connectors, however, are grouped as 3 connectors (silver) and 1 connector (gold) and they really don't look like they are even the same type connector. Documentation states: "The MicPlexer 2 has 8 SMA connectors on the bottom of the unit. There are 4 SMA connectors that distribute the signal for antenna 1 and 4 SMA connectors for antenna 2. There are no differences in the silver and gold connectors." Why the "different" connectors (even though it says there is no di…

I'm not sure which thread to post this in, so I'll drop it here. A buddy of mine and I did a range test today using the following gear: Sennheiser G3 Zaxcom TRK900LA / QRX100 Lectrosonics SM / UCR411A Comtek 216 series Zaxcom ERX2TCD I understand that there's a lot of variables to doing a test such as this, but we had a lot of fun doing it, we just wanted to test our gear, and to just get a general idea on how the range was since we have never found a solid answer.. Keep in mind, this was all LOS (Line of sight) testing. All results are based on when there was a complete dropout in signal. Each test had spotty results about 30-50ft before dropout. We didn…

For those of us unable to attend the NAB Show this year... could anyone that has gone share their highs and lows this year? Any new product releases worth highlighting? Any surprises that were kept back for the show by the manufacturers?? that kind of thing...

I would like the ability to use my erx units with a non zaxnet recorder. Is implementing the capability of hardwire jamming the erx via a cable possible?

So now that the 688 is out, i would ask Sound devices to make us a CL12 linear fader controller. Here is what i would like to have on it: 1- 12 high quality ( Penny Giles if possible ) fader 100mm 2- Stop and Record button like on the CL6 3- That it hooks via the USB port or that SD makes a box that could fix itself to the current 688 connector used for the CL6 and then goes to a heavier duty connector. 4- USB pass thru in order to hook up a keyboard to the new CL12. 5- THat Fader 7-12 on the 688 turns into trim for does channel when the CL12 is hooked. 6- 10 programmable shortcut keys 7- Low power consumption 8- Small footprint but still with …

The Remote Audio Hi-Q batteries (OEM Inspired Energy) look to now be available from Trew Audio, and they actually beat the direct Inspired Energy price by a few dollars for the 98wh size. $160 vs. $163. Well done guys. They also have a single bay charger for $117, but details are scarce.

Today, I was getting together my standard gear set. Boom, Senn MKH 416s, Sound Devices recorder, and some other things. I was with a high end production studio who'd done quite a few shoots with this set up and said they had flawless results. They kept telling me it was "the industry standard." However, upon arriving at the client's studio (A beverage company I will not name), the producer and director asked us what mics we were using. We hadn't started recording yet. We already told their office earlier we were bringing MKH 416's since it's an exterior shoot and confirmed this with their secretary. However, when we repeated this to them at the set, THEY FLIPPED OUT…

So I've decided that I'm going to go with the DV824 I recently bought. Selling it and am going to buy something else. I'm looking at the Zaxcom Fusion or the SD 788t. I feel that these 2 are probably the most comparable as far as units that can go in the bag for ENG or on the Cart for Film and or commercial shoots. Wondering how people feel about these recorders. I'm already partial to the SD as I have used it out in the field and I'm quite familiar with it, as well as being an owner of other SD gear, that I love. So, there's your topic, talk amongst yourselves. Thank You, Jason Hemmerlin

Allright guys, i have one for you. I basically work in many different type of shoots and a wide variety of locations ( indoor or outdoor, clean or dirty and muddy etc… ). I also do Documentary, simple interview, green screen, fiction, commercial etc… I have been struggling to find a good rolling case setup that would enable me to feel confident i have at least the minimum equipment to tackle surprise, but also small and versatile enough to workout. Here are the criteria i want: Rolling case. Lightweight ( can be lifted in a car trunk by one guy ) Drawers ( definitly ) Tough Weather resistant. Would love to be able to set it on a rear minivan seat and have a…

So I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar experience. Someone I work with here in NYC took the Maxx (his favorite machine) out yesterday and: ======================================================== Showed up to set with shiny, decked out Maxx, feeling awesome. Client is a little antsy (has nothing to with sound). Shoot the first half of the day-- no problems, no sweat. DIT asks to dump first half of footage at lunch-- no problem! Lunch-- power down, take out card, DIT dumps to harddrive, returns card. Put card back in, power on. Backlight goes on for one second and then... goes black. Power goes off. Cannot turn Maxx on, no light, no nothing. Switch out N…

I took deliver of my 633 this morning and have spent about 3 hour playing with it and setting it up below are my initial thoughts and observations: Bag Choice: I got it to fit into my 302 Petrol bag but it was too small for my needs. If I was doing a simple 2 wire and boom gig straight to camera I may choose this bag but does not offer me enough space for everything I need. I have a large selection of bags and think the Petrol 601 is the best choice. I needed 3 of the bottom pillows in the bag to get it to sit high enough but with a small amount of velcro it is very secure in the bag. I have 2 SRB comtek IFB and all needed parts on the bag with plenty of space to ad…

Hi guys I came across the new timecode buddy system which is due for release shortly. Thought I'd bring it to the forums attention for discussion. Amongst other applications, it looks like a brilliant add-on for the SD 552. It will also interface with an ipad/ iphone with a free iOS app which is a pretty cool addition! What I'm really thrilled about it the fact that the master unit has a backlit display screen. Something that's been lacking in other small time code units. If it delivers all the web site promises, I think it will become a rather popular bit of kit to own. http://timecodebuddy.com/ Check it out!

Hi, I know microphones are a bit matter of taste, but I would love to hear some suggestions about MS mics, especially for documentary shootings. Don't want to bring too much stuff with me. Basically, it needs to be portable, shotgun but also would be nice if I'm able to record some atmospheres with it on the location which could be very helpful in post. Any experience with Sanken CSS-50?Or maybe Sennheiser 418? (personally, I hate 416) I want to avoid 2 mic combo setup (shotgun and 8), could be too heavy and big to hide it. Thanks in advanced!
