Hello everyone. I just received a new (open box) condition VDB XL-QT in the mail a couple of days ago and am having difficulties with two of the collars, particularly the first one. In order to extend the thinnest section of the boom pole, I must first slightly extend the next one down and hold onto that while I unlock the first. Otherwise, I can't get it to unlock. Except for one other section, all the other collars open fine, but the first section in particular seems impossible to open by itself. I wondered if perhaps I should lubricate this collar, but their website suggests that the QT collars shouldn't need this. Considering I bought the pole in "open box" …

My issue is on Channel 1. -If i gently move the fader or gain it swings drastically up and down -It doesn't consistently happen -If I change input to pre fade it solves the dramatic rise and falls I've included video and corresponding audio files. I have tried different mics, different power(NP to hirose direct, NP to BDS to hirose, et cetera) Has anyone had the same issue? Any information is gladly appreciated. I read in a reply from a user on reddit that they sent theirs in and within a year the issue came back. (Edit: I should mention I've been told to calibrate the Fader several times. It doesn't solve th…

Hi there, Seems I've just caught up with the Zoom F-Control FRC-8 being discontinued and impossible to get hold of second hand... odd in this day and age! What alternatives are people using? I can't seem to find anything on the topic. Doing a short film that I'd like the option to create a stereo mix on the fly. Are people simply using the Auto-mix and do they find this works instead? Thanks.

Hi and thanks in advance for anyone willing to read this convoluted post and offer some advice… Background: I had a particular project a few years ago that encouraged me to buy some nice audio equipment. I am not really an Audio guy. When I or my partner normally work there is an Audio guy (using his own kit) or it is MOS. I bought in the UK from a nice guy called Roger a Zaxcom Nomad 10, QRX 200, 2 x TRXLA2.6, 3x ERX2 TCD and loads of nice mics/bags/poles and all the good TC stuff /accessories stuff and custom cables to make it all work well. He did a good job looking after me and I was really happy. After the 1st job which went very very well we don’t reall…

Hello everyone, I have just recently begun my production audio journey and am looking for some advice on how much $ to invest and on what exactly. I have already spent around $5k on: - Mixpre 10 II - mkh50 -ktek-pole (Avalon) -orca bag As you can tell, the last thing I need to complete the essentials is cavalier mics, transmitters, and receivers. I'm currently debating whether to cheap out and go for the sennheisers, or take the big jump to lectrosonics, wisycom, or sound devices. My thought process for getting my bag in order is I don't want to have to upgrade a year or so down the line, but the prices o…

I started noticing a little too much noise out of my MP-1, and then, when I got it home and started inspecting it, noticed it was picking up me knocking on the case. Opened it up and started tapping on components, and the transformer is the culprit. Has anyone tried swapping out a new one? Worth it? Any good sources for the new part?

Something new from DPA at a really good price (under $1000). Specs look to be on par or better (lower noise, lower current, higher headroom) than the 4017 but with no switchable filters. I don't think I'd miss them though because this, like the mini CMIT, has a built in roll off starting at about 60Hz. A little less presence boost than the 4017 otherwise very flat. Form factor seems nice at a little over 7" but with enough preamp section to be easily mountable in a variety of shock mounts. A little heavier than the miniCMIT. Also they're touting it as extremely durable and water/humidity resistant. Here in Chicago I saw a picture of them putting …

Hi, Are you using antenna filters on a regular basis? Whether on board of active antennas or as part of an in-line booster (for the RX of course). I actually never had to use any, using mostly passive antennas with occasionally the gain booster included in the SL6 but now that I am about to buy very wide band Wisycom tx&rx (namely MPR54 and MTP60) and I need to buy antennas I am wondering if I should get some. Wisycom makes both passive and active antennas with on board filter, but they also make the BFA booster with filters so I am thinking to rather buy a set of passive ones (2 omni and 2 directional) and if needed I will get 2 BFA. Any advise…

Hi everyone. Have any of you developed a 3D part or a system to be able to use the A20 TX as a boom transmitter? The original Sound Devices board is not that practical for me; what solutions have you found here? 🥸

Hello all. So I just bought a DSR4 and I am trying to update the firmware to 1.29 so I can use it with the SL-2 I also just bought. I am on a Windows 10 PC with Wireless Designer 2.1 installed. Powered up the DSR4 and plugged it into the laptop which I have used several times to hook into my Venue with no issues. When I go to try to update it, or even to open it up on the designer platform it is not being recognized. I tried 4 different usb cables of varying qualities. It just won't see it so I can't update the firmware without it. Anyone have issues trying to update theirs? Thanks. CRAIG

Hi, I just acquired a Stellavox ALP8 external mic preamp that's meant to plug into the Stellavox recorder through a cable. I don't own a Stellavox recorder. The ALP8 allows connecting two microphones and has a single 6 pin socket in the back (OUT), for both powering the preamp from the recorder, and feeding the mic signals to the recorder. I plan on using this mic preamp, which I assume is of excellent quality given the Stellavox origins, with other recorders, analog and digital. But I don't know how to wire a proper cable and what each of the 6 individual pins represent signal wise. I assume two are for power and ground, and that means 2 each for each…

Zaxcom has introduced a new IFB device designed to be used primarily the way in which current IFB systems used. The sound quality is amazing, it seems to be a very rugged and hopefully indestructable unit, so important for a device that will be the hands of other crew, Director, Script, etc. It will be very easy to integrate this with almost everybody's existing systems since it is compatible with all of the Comtek transmitters. Gotham has done a really good video showcasing the VRX-1.

Hello, I just bought an used srb block 25 dual receiver but I couldn’t check it thoroughly until yesterday I began a shoot and I came across an issue I wasn’t able to solve: Everytime I wanted to use both transmitter, either a “check freq 1” or “check freq 2” showed up and I couldn’t use one or the other, and yes, I scanned, checked the compat snd everything I could think, even at one moment, I couldn’t hear both transmitters and the check freq kept on showing up… any help or an idea? Or it should be sent to Lectro? thanks in advance… Axel.

Hey Everyone, Here is a super rough version of Goose, my 788T control software. Please keep in mind this is VERY ROUGH and I'm posting it to get a feel of what sort of glitches/bugs I need to work out. But feel free to download it and try it. I'm curious to hear any problems/crashes you might have so I can fix them. SCREENSHOT GALLERY: https://imgur.com/a/MdfATSF Here is a list of some of the stuff you can do with it: FEATURES - Fully control the 788T's transport REC/STOP/PLAY - Edit scene/take info easily for the last recorded and next take - One-button "lettering up" to the next scene letter (haven't implemented a num…

I have a Sony ECM77B lav mic with the standard XLR connector. My question is……is it possible to physically cut that XLR connector off and solder on a 3.5mm locked connector? And obviously still have it work properly.

How do these compare? Apart from the increased amount of operating frequencies available for use with the A20, does it have any other advantages? Performance-wise, do you think there would be much of a difference with an A20 Tx (not the mini) paired with an A10 vs an A20?

I'm about to jump into the Lectrosonics universe, and wondered if people are still loving the DCR822 now that it's been out for a bit? Would you recommend it over the LR? I just used the SRc and didn't really like it, and am leaning towards either the 822 or 2 LRs - to pair with 2 SMQVs or other digital hybrid Txs. This would go in my bag for location sound mixing. Thanks!

Inspired by the "View from the office" thread, i am pretty curious as to what bags people haul around, and what gear is in it. So, this threads purpose is pretty simple. Show me your bag, give a little description of what it contains, and what type of gigs you normally do. My "bag": The thing is, i have no bag yet. No cart either. So what you see, is what i have, the rest is rented for every gig. Gear list: Sound Devices 442 Sennheiser G3 kit Røde Lavalier Røde NTG-3 AKG K-271

So, Im looking to get a wireless Lav setup to do talking heads/interview pick ups on my shows. My eye caught this https://www.locationsound.com/sennheiser-ew-500-film-g4-pro-film-combo-set-4493 No, Im not going to wireless my boom, but this is bugging me. I have to ask: There's a Lav and a body pack transmitter, and a receiver to plug into my SD MixPre. ........Fine. In that kit there's a wireless plug on transmitter for the boom, but where's the receiver for that. Am I missing something??? Should there not be a second receiver??? Why are they bundling 2 transmitters, but only one receiver?? Confused on Sunset and Vine
