A shooter friend of mine just bought himself a brace of Diety TC1s. His cameras are FX9 and A7 types, and he's been having pretty good luck with them on long-roll multicam shoots. The specs are impressive and the price is pretty darn low. Anyone adopted these? At $200 a pop or $550 for a 3-pack is there any point in getting into these re: rentals, since I'd guess serious shooters will just buy their own?

I’m curious what users of the Sound Devices Nexus “Plan B” is when there’s an issue that cannot be resolved in the field and the unit needs to be sent in for repair? That’s up to 16 channels out of commission! Do you have another Nexus waiting in the wings? Or 8 A20 RX’s standing by?….I feel this “too many eggs in one basket” (literally all of the eggs) scenario is a bit of a concern for the remote field work that many of us get into. I work in A LOT of locations with out cellular service and shipping a replacement product can takes days. These shoots aren’t always long but a lot is at stake. I bring this up because after using Lec…

This is not a comprehensive scientific test, just a fun experiment I did with my new Shure wireless kits to show their excellent reception. It's not a real world test, but impressive nonetheless. My setup was just a Lectro ALP620 and an SNA600a directly to the SMa connectors on the ADX5D. The receiver antennas were attached to my sound bag, not elevated or anything. ADX1M was set to 20mw output, the ADX1 was set to 40mw. This photo/video was the distance I got before the ADX1M started to drop out, the ADX1 was still holding no problem at about half strength. IMG_1566.MOV Edit: I'm not sure why the video…

Inviting anyone who has shoot experience with the new A20 Nexus system to share their thoughts here. I’ve read the material, watched the videos but I know I have questions that only time can tell things like… - Stability… does it ever crash? - Bugs? - A20 battery life? Is it practical to get 5-6hrs from these if you’re actively managing them? - Nexlink Interference to other film gear? - Transmitter durability -Range! Sound mixers only please! Thanks!

Hello all. I've worked in my first film in 1996 with a rented inmaculate Nagra IVS , and it was an excelent experience. In 94, i've used a Nagra III to record some cars FX, and mono backgounds for a film, and it was very fun. I've since 1990 a Revox B77, that's in the shelf now, as a pair of Uher reports, but i never owned a Nagra. In my country a guy is selling a Nagra III and a Nagra E, and my blood starts to boil again.... The III is a legendary machine, but it's older, and i'm affraid something goes wrong in the future ( it's working fine now). The E is simpler, and newer, but less attractive to me… Somone knows which has the best pr…

Something I've never learnt which is almost embarrassing to ask at this point... Aes3 and aes42 are often mentioned by others. I have an sd 833, previously a 633. Both of which have these functions. Also my mcr42 wisycoms have these as an output. I have zero knowledge on how and when is good to use these options. I know it's digital format. From online it sounds like it can add extra inputs through an xlr, or make a mic sound cleaner. So my question is can you give me scenarios on when to use them and why. For example would using my mkh50 through an xlr benefit from using aes? If so why? Or would using the aes output of my wi…

Greetings All, A few months ago I put a bug in the ear of my friends Justin and Lukas at ProSound in New Orleans.. The idea was to repurpose one of the 2 headphone outputs on the 788t to be used as a Mic input that would replace the function of the onboard slate mic.. This addresses one of the long standing issues of having to give up input 8 to use an external slate mic... Today I'm am beyond happy to report "THEY HAVE DONE IT"!! The modified 788t the Mini headphone jack as an Input.. We first tested it with a Sennheiser G2/G3 style connector and it worked! Sounded Great. I then connected a Phantom Powered mic up thru a Denecke Phantom Power supply.. Again Success. …

I have two Lectrosonics SRAs, one has regular whips and the other has AJM jointed antennae. I am thinking about getting another set of AJMs but I wonder: a. Do they perform as well as whips? b. Is any kind of maintenance required or recommended to maintain the connection/conductivity of the joint?

Is anyone using the Coga Sound Battery Distribution System? It looks promising, but can't find many reviews of it online. Curious to hear your experiences with it.

The Sound Devices A20-TX seems to give us all the goodness of the A20-Mini, but in a bigger form factor (similar to the previous A10-TX). Such as that massively super wideband capabilities, but now it is even wider: of 169 to 1525 MHz, with VHF being included as well. Also adds in the Phantom Power capabilities and longer run time of the previous gen A10-TX which many people wished the A20-Mini had (but couldn't due to its miniature size). Price for the Sound Devices A20-TX is US$2,450. First difference that immediately leaps out is that the A20-TX has 3x AA (vs 2x AA of the A10-TX): Battery run time is "up to 12hrs" fo…

Hi! Since I'm still pretty new in the business, I just recently started buying my own gear. One of the first things I bought was a Sanken COS 11 lav, since other mixers seem to like them so much. And, yes, it does sound realy good, but I'm just getting so much cable noise, I find it realy hard to hide it. I can get the area around the mic quite, but the cable is just killing me, even if I loop it. I used a DPA 4061 today on a shoot and found it to have much less cable noise, and wasn't a problem concealing at all. I'm starting to think I got a faulty COS 11, might this be the case? Anybody got a similar experience?

Hello guys, i was wondering if anyone has ever worked with this particular set up before. The Arri umc-4 is an external follow focus brain. Unfortunately it uses the sync input (where we normally plug in timecode) of the RED. The umc-4 has a regular timecode input (5 pin lemo), we can get timecode to read on the umc-4 but it doesn’t go through to the RED. Has anyone worked with this particular setup before? Thanks!

Hey Everyone, Owned the F8 since it came out years ago but about 1-2 years ago I started getting interference from Mobile Phones close to the recorder. Wondered if anyone else was having similar issues with any recorders and/or work arounds to prevent it?

Hi all, I run a 633 with two SRC’s and I just ordered a couple of Betso Bowties to try to improve range. While I’m waiting for them to arrive, I’m trying to figure out how to configure them with my SRC’s to take full advantage. Can I just plug them in directly to the SRC’s antennae ports? And can you use one Bowtie to boost the signals for both channels of one SRC and if so how would you do that? Thanks for the help!!!

I mean… IN Tents….I wanted to see what everyone likes for tents and or shade for production? I’m really looking for something unique or better than the standard pop up tent. More for shade and not necessarily for rain, or hiding. The current production I’m on uses the standard pop ups, albeit heavy duty, with full removable/ adjustable sides etc. Really fantastic quality tents (black and camo)….however they are HUGE for my needs, a bit big to transport, heavy (duty), and really and two person setup job. Obviously these are not my problems as production takes care of all of the setup and transport of these. However I wanted to have…

Greetings Legends of Sound, Does anyone have any real world experience of the Sony digital radio mic system? I'm interested in the portable dual rx and belt pack tx's - I hate the old Sony systems but have been told the new stuff is impressive. Any one used it in anger? ? Range? Battery life? Remote control ? Sound quality?? Rf stability...?

Hello, I just got a nice python setup on my home computer and I wanted to build my first AI model from scratch. The idea is to try to bring back transients lost from tape recording and if I am lucky, be able to eliminate distortion. I was wondering if there was a fast way to age tape? Bake it?

I work with the Sound Devices 833 and for outdoor i have a MKH8060 with Schoeps CCM8 ontop in a Cinela Basket. A perfect set-up for documetaries where the post-team knows how to treat MS-stereo files ( i deliver them the descreet Mid & Side iso's in addition to the wireless iso's). But for situations where i know the post-team knows absolutely nothing about MS-decoding i want to record (and deliver) a decoded left- and right-stereo. This seems to work only if i send the MS-signal to the Mix L&R with MS-Link switched on and record the Mix. I remember my workflow with the MixPre where it could be set in the menu wether to record the MS-signal decoded or no…
