In the ongoing saga of low-end production. I can't tell if the reporter is doing a deep investigation or practicing for being a producer. The big tuna sandwich mystery Julia Carmel, New York Times June 20, 2021Updated: June 20, 2021 11:41 a.m. [snip] As The Washington Post reported in late January, Subway — the world’s largest sandwich chain — is facing a class-action lawsuit in California that claims its tuna sandwiches “are completely bereft of tuna as an ingredient.” Subway, for its part, has categorically denied the allegations. I've just put together a Dante Carte (3 Lectrosonics DSQD's into a Scorpio via Dante) and of course started on a show that wants to shoot 24FPS and 48048 Sample rate and then pull down to 23.98. I've got my DSQD's running Dante into my Scorpio set at 48048 and I'm not getting any errors with a sample rate mismatch. Set the Scorpio to 47952 Sample Rate and it shows a mismatch immediately. Can you run the DSQD's at 48k going into a recorder set at 48048? This seems like it would cause some major problems, or is there a way to set the pull-up/down in Dante Controller to make this work properly? Thanks.

Interesting article about AI voice work. I see the convenience factor. I also see reduced work for mixer/recordists in VO acquisition. https://gizmodo.com/veritone-launches-deepfake-audio-platform-for-celebriti-1846905864

I have switched from Transpore / Durapore to Mepitac silicone tape for wiring to the skin and talent really likes it (no more 40 year old virgin jokes) but I’m still not satisfied with the adhesiveness, particularly when chest hair is involved. Anyone have any tips with this stuff?

Does anyone know a way to record the audio of a FaceTime call on the iPhone itself? One actor will be far away (in another state). The suggested methods - Screen Record and Voice Memo - will disable audio recording when the device is used as a phone. Is there a hack? And Happy Birthday, Jeff!

Hi All. I have some studio recording equipment which is all mono and plugged into my pc via an interface. I also have a Zoom H5 and a Rode NGT2 which I purchased for video work. I want to branch out and try field recording. Anything and all outside in the sunlight and fresh air. But I have never recorded in stereo before and know nothing of the equipment. My recording knowledge is pretty basic anyway, so could someone please suggest a stereo type of mic which may fit inside my Rode Blimp, and a good recorder if my H5 is not up to quality recordings? Thanks.

Hi All, I've been seeing a number of Cooper Mixers come up for sale recently, was interested in potentially getting one. But I have a question about how people mixed on them (i.e. non-mixing surfaces for recorders, purely mixers) with wireless and hardline. With my recorders I always have 3.5ms to 6ms of delay on my hardline channels due to the wireless having a delay. How did people used to deal with this back in Cooper and Nagra days considering there doesn't seem to be a delay function?

This is some impressive range. I have Shure IEM’s for my Boom Op and love them. They really need to come up with a bag receiver and I’d consider switching over to them in the future. The video also proves you don’t need to crank the power at the transmitter to get better range.

Hi everyone I'm throwing this at you and I hope someone has anything for me, you guys have been my heroes for some time already: I used for the second time an app that controls my Sound Devices 688 recorder via bluetooth from my Ipad, where you can label files, tracks etc, very useful, called Wingman ( helps you get chicks) I labeled a file that got split due to size the same way as the previous one while recording (since I have my recorderset to split the file once it exceeds 4gbs) and then the 4gb file dissapeared leaving the smaller file second file which remained on the cards. I called Sound Devices and they said the file should b…

The baseball won. My friend, local broadcaster Jon Bozeka, was calling a game today when the ball came straight at him. He backed up to avoid injury. The gear did not. $4k down the drain.

Hi, I was watching the apple events today, and was wondering, how they are doing audio for their release events. Some of the clothes they have, such as labor suite, can not be so silence and rustle free, especially when all the mics are not to be seen. And the voice is so clean, sounds like recorded in a dub-studio. Just interested, if they are recording the audio from location, or dubbing everything in studio afterwards. Thanks.

Still early days, but I imagine that once this tech improves, it might serve as a replacement for some ADR. I would have to assume that SAG would include language to limit its use, but for indies and for general walla, those might someday serve as a kind of "stock footage", or even a plugin: https://www.aflorithmic.ai/post/creating-einsteins-voice

Hi everybody I would just like to express my deepest admiration for the sound crews working on the "Real Housewives" TV-series around US. Great work! Whenever my girlfriend watches those shows, I'm get the chills thinking about where and how the lav mics are hidden, and they are always very well hidden and sound great. We all know how difficult it can be to properly hide a lav mic and make it sound good - then add tight evening dresses showing a lot of skin and made of synthetic fabric, tons of hair-spray and make-up, table-flipping divas and tight schedules. And the guys having a two-day Italian stubble rubbing on high col…

This came up in another discussion thread and i was curious to know if any nova operators are using built in noise reduction. This is new to me, and It seems like something plausible for camera tracks for clients who edit straight from camera with unaffected tracks as backup, etc. does anyone here do something similar? What might be your workflow?

It falls on you as the DP to stand up for your co-worker/business associates. I've never heard a sound guy say " oh I just need to put this camera on sticks and we're rolling!". You will never hear me say "we don't need a DP, I can get usable footage". It's all about we not about me. I know how to use lenses, what focal length, shutter speed, ISO, color temp, you name it. I get asked frequently to use the camera and decline because I know someone wants that job way more than I do. I would be taking their position and pay from them while doing a poor job at the same time. I know this benefits the budget to make one person do two people…

Is there a contract rate for Music Playback operators? I didn't see the position specifically listed in the ASA, so mostly wondering where they usually fall. Also, if a sound utility operates playback for a scene, would that re-rate them for the day, assuming the playback rate is higher?
