The following, from this: http://www.johnedmark.com/statement/ "If change is the only constant in nature, it is written in the language of geometry. Much of my work celebrates the patterns underlying space and growth. Through kinetic sculptures and transformable objects, I strive to give viewers access to the surprising structures hidden within apparently amorphous space. While art is often a vehicle for fantasy, my work is an invitation to plunge deeper into our own world and discover just how astonishing it can be. In experiencing a surprising behavior, one’s sense of wonder and delight is increased by the re…

Following the question as to the Nagra used on The Shining I contacted Ivan Sharrock who was the mixer at the start of the film and he sent this back. Hi Malcolm We used Stanley's Nagra IV-S. The other Mixer was Richard Daniel who took over from me in December after we had been filming for 30 weeks. I left, with my Boom Op/ 1st Asst - Ken Weston, as Stanley would only give us two days off at Christmas!! The principle photography carried on for another 24 weeks ……… (original schedule was 17weeks)!

Bruce Bisenz, one of my oldest sound mixer friends, retired 3 years ago and so is no longer using this custom mixing panel he designed and had built. Bruce had a long and interesting career having done such films as "Norma Rae", "Personal Best", "Purple Rain", and "Tequila Sunsrise". This mixer was last used by Bruce on the film "Without Limts" in 1998. Here is Bruce's description of the panel: Everything was designed during the 2 track era to make it possible to precision equalize wireless mics/lavaliers (first with my custom nominal curve) and then to trim individually so that lav sound would be a dead match for the fishpole mic. Also to route various mics and (equ…

Here is my work in progress for my 2nd cart for breakaway filming or small jobs. I subscribe to the 2 cart option for Feature Films where my studio or large cart stays intact and i have this cart for quick and small breakaway shooting. The main criteria that its cable free. If i want to see the action I move the cart closer not attach a monitor. I kept it small and bare bones so it doesn't end up the same size as my main cart. The camera bag on the back is for TRX900's 742 and radio mic mounting stuff The bag at the bottom contains all batteries with V Locks through a 12v Audio Root regulator to power the Rf amp and Audio Root batts for the rest of …

Back in the day (when we hadn't actually heard of "Occupational health & Safety standards" and when we only had one track. Well. I saw this car up for sale recently & realised I had done a full on lap of Mt Panarama at Bathurst in it. Don't let its comely car next door looks fool you, it was a fire breathing monster. Below is from my "Who I am today" One excellent occasion was at Bathurst car races where channel 7 was entering an SL/R5000A9X Torana, we went up to do a bit of a promo story. There was a seat for LG, I had to sit on the floor under the roll cage. I had a hard wired tram just inside the driver’s helmet & a dynamic mic for FX - mix…

Again this year the good people of Lectrosonics volunteered to help out with the organizing of our annual RAMPS/JWSOUND Party. Bruce Jones took some great pictures --- he managed to get us all together, sort of, for a panorama group shot created by stitching multiple images --- interesting result this year! Here is a LINK to a gallery of images Anyone with any pictures they took, feel free to add them here as a post in this thread (and I will add them to the image gallery that is linked).

For awhile I was using a modified baby stroller as a sound cart (seen here) and recently I decided it was time for an upgrade. I liked the idea of a two-module sound cart, much like the RastOrder SU, so I built my own using the 80/20® framing system. I purchased the Chindha recorder brackets first, then designed the top module around that. I then built the base module from the measurements of the top module. I made it wide enough so I can add rack rails in the future if I need to. The top module connects to the base module with four T-knob screws. I purchased a 3' lon…

Here is a concept for a Follow Cart based on the Bag Cart (1070mm x 710mm x 565mm HxWxD). It has 15u of rear storage and a further 2u at the front. It has a cover that unscrews and rises up to become a work surface (as shown in the CAD drawings). The cart would be compatible with all of SOUNDCART's universal accessories however would not fold as the other cart designs do. I welcome your thoughts and opinions...

Do you keep them (or something similar) at hand in your kit or generally, always within reach? Wear them at concerts regardless of sticking out in a crowd?

Does anyone ever use one anymore? I recently had to put a center punch and pilot hole down inside of a long channel, through one object into another; it was not a job for a small hammer and an impact center punch, or a powered drill. A Yankee Screwdriver with a drill bit chuck adapter did the job. These were common when i was a child but are now discontinued and can be found on Ebay. Be aware that different Yankee Screwdriver models require an adapter that fits that model; most adapters fit on several, but not all models.

The film "The Jazz Singer" from 1927 is typically credited for ushering in the era of sound for film. I however, like to give credit to the iconic MGM lion from 1924. Does anyone know the name of the sound engineer in this picture as he's surely deserving of our remembrance?

I Just stumbled over this and thought I'd share it. I Wonder, what the sound person thought that moment. The interesting part is from minute 2:38 to 2:58. https://www.zdf.de/comedy/heute-show/van-der-horst-und-die-cdsu-102.html URL to Video file It is from a German weekly political parody show "heute show". Quick translation: Reporter: Mr Söder, come to the CDSU, thats your only career chance now! Söder: Many thanks, May we keep it? (the mic) Reporter: No Söder: I see, but we've paid the fees. (referencing public radio licence fees, the ones that finance the show) Reporter: When Kosmala (the featured guy in the clip questioning Sö…
