Hello! I have been thinking of how to get antenna distribution for a few months, but have yet to actually pull through because everybody seems to be telling me something different. What I have is two DCR822 lectros with sna600a (which I plan to replace with betso bowtie), and currently I'm using the antennas just on one receiver. I work from a bag. Now, I was told at my local retailer to definitely get a BSRF system, which they sell, because I lose 4dB gain in a distro wlsewise. But another retailer in Germany (kortwich) that make passive and active systems specifically told me not to go active if I don't plant to use long cables. …

Hello hive mind, I was renting an original Lectro Lm TX from a friend and ran into this problem: it booted fine (lights etc) but immediatly shutdown afterwards. I didnt have much time to look into it so I just grabbed another set of his but wanted to know the cause. Im guessing its in some kind of mode/reset state?!? TIA Franky 1633392735_Lmshutdown.MOV

I’m having a tough time settling on a configuration for an archival field recording project. Some context: currently my only recording gear is a D100 and a pair of LOM Usis. Use case: recording ambiences for an acoustic ecology project (and, as a secondary, as textures and samples for musique concrete compositions). I’ve been going over and over ORTF vs M/S and I think I’ve decided on the former. Budget is capped at $5000. Right now I’m considering: 2x MKH8040, Cinela Albert, and a Mixpre 2 but reading about handling problems and general gripes about the 8040s has me a bit concerned. Renting in my area isn’t really an option. …

Hola, there was a broadcast exhibition in hamburg last week. I went there to find out what digital transmitters and receivers are available. I'm planning to buy a quadset next year. some manufacturers or distributors were there. so i came across the Lectrosonics DSR4 Four-Channel Digital Slot Receiver and would there the Lectrosonics DBSM Single-Battery Digital Wireless Bodypack Transmitter/Recorder. at b&H are already 2 reviews about the Lectrosonics DBSM transmitters, but very mixed statements about it, can one of you say something about how the Lectrosonics DBSM in the workflow on the set so do? audio ltd/sound devices is also supposed to c…

(Apologies for the shameless click bait title) I've just acquired a 1963 Nagra III B. Long story short, it plays silently from a mechanical noise perspective. Accelerated fwd is also quiet. Rewind, however is making a fair amount of what sounds like spindle play/oscillation noise. Today, having been cleaning and investigating (unit all ways up and down) it started making a more alarming bumping noise on rewind. When I went under the hood I noticed the pulley connected to the right/take-up spindle was bumping on each revolution. I disconnected that spring tensioning it to the motor plate and turned the tachymetric wheel by finger to try and track th…

I had a question regarding the DPR-A . By now we are all used to the HM style Plug-on transmitter (which i believe uses the XLR cable connected to it as an antenna) but with the DPR-A which has a whip antenna connector , is it mandatory to use a whip antenna while operating the DPR-A for it to work correctly , or is it optional for achieving extended range and RF ? in otherwords, will the DPR-A work just like a DPR or HM without an antenna ? Thank you

Hi Folks, Unusually for me, a location recordist, I've been booming by hand in a studio a bit lately and I'm wondering about swapping the rycote zeppelin I normally use, with the foam windshield that came with my MKH414 when I bought it but still use the suspension mount from the zeppelin. It seems like you'd need to squash the foam or modify it to get it into the cradle though. I don't anticipate needing this capability a lot going forward, so probably wouldn't buy a whole different mount that accommodates the foam thingy, but I'd be willing to modify it to suit if there's a way that folks have found successful? All the best Simon.

Looks very interesting. Seems to tick most of the boxes of the rumours. Multiband was a new one for me, certainly very interesting for people doing doc work. Was expecting a smaller form factor, but can only imagine that this is the first of a range. Didnt mention anything about 48v, so from the rumors, they might have dropped that feuture on this particulair model?

Can anybody narrow down what this noise on my Lectro SMDWB's might be? I've tried different mics (all cos11d), different batteries, different frequencies, different microSD cards and it's happening on both of my SMDWB's. Seems to be only when recording directly to the microSD. First file is while recording to microSD. Second is recording to my 633. Apologies for the standard "Hey Hey Hey" Check. Some years back I saw a small pole offered that attached underneath your mixer bag. It rested horizontally and when you flipped the pole vertically down, you were able to rest your bag on it while standing and it took some of the load off your back. Does anyone remember what this was called and where you could get it? Does anyone own one?

Hi guys, This is my first post here, Ive been using reel to reel more than 10 years and I really love them, I always wanted a Nagra deck but prices are crazy this days, finally find a Nagra III, as description its working but no more info, I just wanted to do some simple music recordings, I know is mono but its all visual to me, no experience with the banana connections and would like to adapt some type of power supply, this beauty works on 12 D batteries. I wanted to learn as much as possible from you guys, and try to find a nice top cover, mine has some cracks, please feel free to give some advice where to start. Regards, …

I have a serious issue today with my SD 888. I have looked at the card audio from yesterday and there are no ISO tracks recorded to file. Just A1 and A2. I had a boom and two lavs. LR (A1, A2) were set to Boom L, Radios R. There is nothing for A3, A4, A5 on the card! The files for A1, A2 also appear to be identical mono files! I recorded 1 boom today, checked POLY file, and A1, A2, A3 are all there. As expected. I have track to media routing set to ALL. Has anyone experienced this? Are the files not recorded? Any help greatly appreciated. 🙏🏻

One thing I find confusing (or at the very least odd) is the assortment of output connectors on this unit. It states there are 2 sets of 4 sma outputs --- 4 to serve antenna A, 4 to serve antenna B. The connectors, however, are grouped as 3 connectors (silver) and 1 connector (gold) and they really don't look like they are even the same type connector. Documentation states: "The MicPlexer 2 has 8 SMA connectors on the bottom of the unit. There are 4 SMA connectors that distribute the signal for antenna 1 and 4 SMA connectors for antenna 2. There are no differences in the silver and gold connectors." Why the "different" connectors (even though it says there is no di…

Hi! I'm in the market for a parabolic dish to record mono fx/ambience such as birds and environmental sounds. My top priority is maintaining a low noise floor and environmental isolation, as the sounds will be placed in mono within a game engine and spatialized relative to the player. It will also need to be relatively portable & able to be carried around easily, as I am traveling for the project. I've been looking at solutions, mainly the wildtronics pro mono and the telinga modular. It seems posts on here from several years back mainly discuss the telinga, but I believe they have released an updated model since then, and there are few impres…

Hello, if I buy an ifb transmitter Lectrosonics T4 while on a trip in the USA with a 250mW tx power, will I be able to choose the tx power down to 100mW or 50mW ? I do not see that in the manual thanks

Zaxcom uses Motorola BT100 batteries (Motorola PMNN4468 BT100) on some of their gear. I am looking to find alternative chargers to Motorola's "quirky" chargers. Does anybody make them? I know there are a few chargers from Sound Guys Solutions for other batteries but did not see any for BT100.

This is an idea I've been nursing along for the past 2 years, and gradually "rolled out" in January. Since then, I've upgraded about 70 CMC4 amplifiers to 48 volt phantom power, not with an adaptor circuit, but a rebuild of each CMC4 to a schematically correct CMC5 preamplifier. Each is thoroughly tested and adjusted to perform as well, and often better than the original T-power configuration. If you own one or more CMC4's that you'd like to use without the need for an external power supply or barrel adaptor, details of the upgrade are available at http://www.cmc4upgrade.com. Thanks Pete Verrando

Following on from this thread: I would now like to post an abbreviated version of my transmitter noise comparison. As mentioned in the linked thread, on the request by my regular post team I have set up a test to compare the noise created by various transmitters. Originally, this as I didn't know what I was looking for, this test also included several microphones, but here we are only really discussing the noise of digital transmitters, so I'll focus on just one microphone, the DPA 4017B. First, the boring stuff: The setup: I recorded myself reading an excerpt from a random book I had around. This is in German I'm afraid... To recor…

Hi Everyone, I've recently purchased a brand new Sennheiser 416 p48 A much needed upgrade from my Rode ntg4 I noticed the Sennheiser 416 has a bit of hiss on the higher frequencies. I wanted to know if this is normal or if I should get a replacement. I've attached a sample recording and a screen shot of a frequency analyser. Of both 416 and ksm 137 for comparison. I thought it may be my preamp but when I compare to my Shure ksm 137 the high frequency noise is not there. Which rules out noisy cables also. The Shure ksm 137 has 14dba Self noise and the 416 has 13 dba. The 416 just sounds noisier? Can anyone take a …

I am curious to know if anyone has wrangled either of the following : 1. running a Sound Devices mixer with batteries based on the Canon BP series (BP-955 and the heftier BP-975) instead of the Sony L-series batteries specified in the power accessories listed by Sound Devices? Nominally, the output looks very similar (7.2 V DC for Sony, 7.4 V for Canon). The reason I ask is that I have a lot of the Canon batteries on the shelf, rarely doing anything. May as well use'm if possible. 2. (this is the curly one) - Is there any way to be providing 12 - 14 volts to receivers at the audio bag? I have excellent DWR-series dual channel receivers …

Hi, Has anyone faced any issues with the Icon Platform M+ Controller while using it with the Scorpio? Mine freezes at times - Sometimes the shift key stops working and at times the Coms send button freezes and refuses to turn off. Also, sometimes the entire unit freezes and none of the buttons work - I have to restart the controller for it to start working again. I have installed the latest firmware on the Scorpio and the Platform M+ but that did not help. I plan to upgrade to the CL-16 eventually but if anyone has faced similar issues and managed to fixed them, I would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

This is a great combo. This little controller from Sonosax is a perfect complement to the 833. The unit is recognized as soon as plugged, all buttons are operational and the build quality is excellent. The faders are smooth, slightly less than on larger Sx mixers, but I especially like the faders placement, very ergonomic, at least for my fingers. This little guy allow to use the channels 7 and 8 very easily and with it’s perfect form factor, it’s a tool that will find its place on many small gigs where 8 mikes are enough.
