Hello, I just purchased an SD 633, and it's my first time using this model. Unfortunately, the playback isn’t working. When I press play, there’s complete silence in my headphones. I set the playback output to headphone only, but it still doesn’t work. I checked the manual, but couldn’t find any helpful information. Could you please assist me?

I searched and found this referenced once on this forum, but I thought the importance of the technique warranted a second, specific listing. Last week when I tried to use Zaxconvert during my lunch break, I got the dreaded spinning rainbow wheel on my MAC. Yikes! I had to force quite and then the computer was acting strange, so I did a re-start. All the while, my CF card was still in the card reader attached to my computer. (Transcend 32GB, 133x CF card, as per Howy's suggestion). When the computer re-started, the card was no longer recognized. I tried it on another MAC---it was not recognized there either. And when I dropped it back into my MAXX, the recorder …

I’m considering taking the plunge and replacing all my Lectros with Sound Devices Astral ARX8 (formerly Nexus Go) and SD transmitters. My question for the group is what would you buy for transmitters: the A20 or the A20 mini or some combination of both? I’m hoping to buy 6 channels in total for now. I like the form factor of the mini, but I don’t like the fact that there is no control interface on the transmitter and battery life is limited. thanks in advance for your opinions.

A20 Tx Boom Mount Hello from Toronto where bunch of awesome people make bunch of awesome movies, TV shows and other highly creative audiovisual gems. Nick Davey of Purple Cat Printing and myself had our own ideas about the mount for the amazing A20 Tx on a Boom Pole. We wanted quick portability from boom to boom, or to a plant, car, tight space, whatever the challenge might be. We wanted some mechanical protection of the transmitter’s body. We wanted light design to be more popular with our precious boom operators. We wanted audio cable separation from the antenna, and cable catches protecting the fragile Lemo connection. We wanted a p…

Hi again, I satisfied my desire to own an iconic Nagra III by picking a pair on ebay recently. The "newer" one (1967 model!) runs well, records and plays, and the "older" one (1966) will be source of spares. I'm not sure when the round belts were last replaced in them but they look a little saggy. I have been told they are not the same size as those on the later Nagra 4.2, IV-S, E, etc. (which are 88x3mm according to 4.2 Service Manual). Would anyone know the actual stock size of the Nagra III belt, or better, a place where I could buy a few? I looked at Russell Industries but did not see anything close to that kind of size. http://russellind.com/EVG/main.…

Saw this in the most recent Zaxcom email and caught my eye. Anyone who has this slate knows how awesome this is! I know it’s probably custom by the mixer on that film (Roofman). Anyone have contact info for Gavin Harwell, who is listed as the sound mixer? I need 3 ASAP! Thanks, Steve

Hey all, I have a MixPre 6 that only ever gets used for field/SFX recording, and am chasing a lightweight, snug/small bag to protect it while it gets bounced in and out of a backpack. Does anyone have any out-of-left-field suggestions? The usual K-tek/Orca/Petrol/Etc solutions all look great, but are totally overkill (and overpriced) for the purpose.

Hi Everybody! I just bought this used Sony wireless kit and am wondering if there is a firmware update available. I tried to search all over the web but to no avail.. No firmware history too. Maybe the first batch was the good one? URX is 1.004 and UTX is 1.005 Thank you very much for your enlightened advice :)

Is anyone here old enough to have used (or owned) one of these? I recall Dave MacMillan using one on a shoot I was a PA on in SF in the late '70s (or so), before he became famous for the "The Right Stuff". At the time I really liked the form factor and what it could do (what did I know?). Several years later a used one showed up at the old ASC in North Hollywood, and the kindly salespeople gently guided me away from it, intimating that was nothing but trouble... It was pretty big, very heavy, and had no channel direct outs, since in those days they figured you were mixing to mono on the set.

Has anybody laid hands on the fader controller from VDB? The FCS 8 and FCS12 claim to be well-built, so it seems like an interesting entry into this arena. Specifically, I'm wondering if anyone has hands-on experience with the "Soft" vs "Firm" faders that are available. I have read all the documentation I can find, but fader feel is such a subjective tactile experience, I don't really want to place an order based on the literature. Sometime soon, I will likely contact VDB directly (tip of the HAT). I'll report back if I learn useful info. Thanks, Brian

Hi! I have been going down the rabbit hole of options to supply power to my soundcart. It is not a power hungry cart, an 833 bag with 4 lectro RXs, rf distro, comtek TX. The other item I power are my monitors. I have been looking at power solutions like a remote audio lifebox 20c + hot box, and have also been considering a compact Ecoflow to put on the cart (as I have been seeing more ppl on set run them, and hear of more sound mixers running them). I am curious what people’s opinions are on each options. The Ecoflow route is much cheaper, but perhaps doesn’t have as many purpose built outputs, and would require power supplies for each device. The …

Dear all and first of all. I‘m totally new here. Thanks to everyone who reads this post and tries to understand. I digitize audio media. To do this, I have been using the aging Tascam DR-100MKIII for years. Now, I have been looking for a replacement in combination with 32-bit for a long time, since years. Here‘s my problem and workflow: All the products I have looked at lack a feature that is indispensable to me. Automatic (line-)level recording, which starts and stops recording automatically at a certain (line) level. Together with the 5-second pre-recording function, this is my almost weekly workflow. The Tascam Portacapture X8 offers exactly that in co…

Good evening, I wanted to know if Pete Verrando is still doing the conversions. Since we've written to him and he hasn't responded, could you send me his email in case I'm mistaken? Thank you very much for the help.

I’ve been using Koala fuzzies on my shotguns for mild wind situations for many years, and they’re all basically falling apart at this point, so it looks like I need to replace them. Sadly they have not been available for some time, so I have to look into a different brand. I never liked the Rycote ones, I always felt that they weren’t any more affective than using the foam that comes with the mic. There seems to be a number of newer solutions available within the past several years. So what are people using? Likes, dislikes? I will be primarily using Sennheiser mkh416’s and Schoeps cmit5u’s. Let’s hear your iptinions and experiences.

Been having a look at multi-tools, since the screwdriver's gone missing from my kit- wondering if anyone had any opinions? I'm thinking screwdrivers, pliers and a knife/scissors would be the most useful things. A soldering iron might be handy too Shortlist: Leatherman Skeletool Leatherman Juice S2 Victorinox Cybertool Gerber Crucial Any opinions? Or anything really useful I'm missing

Hello! I'm currently syncing the M2D2 with my Metric Halo ULN-8 IV using AES. The only way to avoid clocking issues is to set the M2D2 as the master. I'm having trouble finding a way to configure the M2D2 as a slave, and I'm curious if anyone else has successfully done this. My current solution for making the Metric Halo a slave works, but I foresee this limitation becoming a problem as my setup evolves. I may need to reconsider the M2D2's role in my system. That said, I truly love the M2D2—it's an amazing piece of equipment!

So I'll be working a gig in a couple weeks where I will be fed 4 cabled mix-minus feeds for IFB to 4 talents. I've done this plenty in the past but used a rack mount unit, easy peasy. Due to the workflow and small footprint required for camera and sound department, I have to get this done in a bag-on-cart. My plan is to run a Mini Circuits ZFSC-4-1-S+ using a combination of IFBT4, SMV, SMQV, SMDWB all set to 250w except the latter at 100w in the same block running into a Betso Bowtie transmitting to R1as. I'm OK with the 6db loss, that's actually going to be the least of my challenges! Does this layout sound correct? Expert feedback appreciated. I've never use…

I have been using the Deity DQC2 for a bit and I believe that it deserves a praise. It has so many good things going for it. Size and weight are shockingly small and light. Having it in my kit does not take a lot of space especially considering the small charger brick. Build quality is superb and it seams like it can take a lot of abuse. Expandability makes it very flexible if you want to add more. But the best thing about it is the power design! It takes USBC charging. As somebody who had his Inspire energy 24V charger lost I really appreciate the USBC charging design. An apple Macbook charger or any other USBC charger will work “charging speed…

My thoughts on Schoeps CMD42 and why Zaxcom Nova “oneunit” is too heavy! 🙂 I am very excited about the Schoeps CMD42 AES42 digital amp. I have been using schoeps exclusively for 6+. Ever since my sennheiser MZD8000 digital AES42 amp died. I was using a digital mic preamp for a long time as well before my MZD8000 died. There is multiple advantages of using AES42. In my opinion the sooner the signal chain becomes digital the better for the sound quality and reliability. Aes42 is IMHO the right approach. No need for analog cable runs ,analog front end pres and Analog to digital converter. No more power and RF interference, buzz, crackl…

Hey guys, Anyone made a custom cable to go from an MPT60 to a PHA60 for powering a boom? I had a 3 pin lemo and ta5 connector lying around and needed one so I wired one myself using the Wisycom documentation, but it's not working properly. I'm getting really low signal from my 416 and a lot of noise floor. The orientation I used was: LEMO: Pin 1 - Ground Pin 2 - VDC Pin 3 - AF TA5: Pin 1 - Ground (Lemo Pin1) Pin 2 - AF + (connected to Lemo Pin3) Pin 3 - AF - (Shorted to TA5 Pin1 for reference) Pin 4 - VDC (connected to Lemo Pin2) Pin 5 - Additional ground (Tried both shorting to TA5 Pin1, and …
