Let's share some stories of tactics we've used to get great range from the wireless gear you have used. I once was 5 stories up in a tiny building with windows on all 4 sides with a Lectrosonics UCR200 and my boom boom op was on the ground line of sight with a Lectro UM200 Tx. He was probably 3 football fields away and perfect range on 1/8 whip antennas! The shot was a binocular matte on a super telephoto shot. Sure I know if you put 2 Sharkfins on 10 foot tall mast you will get better range than 1/8 wavelength whip antennas While I've seen great walk tests with new digital wireless gear I'd like to hear some stories from the JWSound group. Th…

I have a massive problem with audio jumps on the zoom f6. Below is a video example from another user. Audio jumps at some point and gets out of sync, you can clearly hear it in the audio file, so its not a syncing issue. I testeed 5 different high quality cards and orderend two new ones to be sure its not a card problem. As it happend the first time in dual record mode (32 plus 24 bit), Zoom claimed it should only happen in this mode, but right now it happend in 24 bit mode as well. All "full card tests" on this recorder and its replacement failed in the recorder with seven good cards (for example sandisk extreme pro) that work well in cameras and…

DBSM Digital Transcorder why factory cannot make record sound files (sd card) and send audio to the receiver at the same time? DBSM Digital Transcorder only has A1B1, will it has B1C1 in the future ?

I’d love to hear from anyone who has experience with the mixer. I’m a big fan of Sonosax pres but would love to keep my 688/CL12 setup (also, I can’t afford a big Sonosax mixer). I was thinking of this as a front end to my 688 and to put in a bag for smaller jobs.

Hi Everyone, I'm new to working with Arri cameras. I want to send a wireless Audio signal to the camera through a wireless transmitter/receiver. I saw on the manual an audio input in front of the camera. I bought a cable and I want to make sure its the right one. Its a 1/8'' TRS Right Angle to 00B 5 Pin Lemo I didn't know there were different size lemo connectors as I've only used the ones for timecode. The one I bought looks tiny! The diameter of the connector is 5mm and it has 5 pins. Would it work with the Arri Alexa mini? Thanks so much!

Hi all! Happy 2023! I am curious if anyone has any experience using the Lectrosonics DSR4 and how it compares to SRC / 411 performance or Wisycom MCR54 performance? I have been wanting to pickup some Wisy's for the range and BT functions, but would be curious to hear thoughts here first!

Hello, i'm considering buying the Wisycom MCR54 and I have a doubt about it. I would like to know if I can power the MCR54 receiver directly with a V Mount battery ("SWIT PB-M45S" 14.4V - 45Wh - 3.1Ah) that I already use to power my audio recorder (Sound Device MixPre10 ll) I would just add a Dtap splitter to have an extra connection, so it will be: V Mount Battery > Dtap Male to dual Dtap Female Splitter cable > Dtap to Hirose 4 Pin cable > MCR54 Is this a safe solution or do I risk burning something? Thanks!

Now that we’re in 2023. This fine unit’s life cycle is going on 9 years old. Has anyone heard of an imminent update? Thanks.

Hi all, I have a been using a Schoeps CMIT 5 for years now and while it does a pretty reasonable job, sometimes its just to edgy/bright for sources. I have used MKH416s but its been a real long time. Considering getting one though, would it be a good one to have on hand? Any others worth looking at? I've thought about grabing and MK41 capsule as well. MKH 8060? DPA 4017?

Hello, all! Could a Nagra Seven owner suggest the best headphones for monitoring. I am a new owner and I've tried a number of headphones and they all sound poor. Nervous!

A basic question for you all : what is the best shockmount for M88TG ? Shure A55M ? Rycote INV-7 (std or mkIII) ? Audio-Technica AT8415 ? PSC M5 Pro looks quite good too, but I don't find any reseller in Europe... I didn't find the answer in the group archives, but maybe the topic has already been traited in the past.

Hello. I'm a live sound engineer so far, not a film sound mixer (yet). I need to use two shotgun mics in a ORTF pattern at mixing booth to pick room sound while the band plays via FOH PA. The goal is to hear as close as possible to what a human hears in the room. This is needed for remote FOH mixing. I've experimented with a MKH416 (only one for now, since I own one) pointing at a FOH speaker from mixing position and it works quite well. But the church is on a budget and can't afford two such mics. A dynamic SM57 worked too, but it's much less detailed and rolls off too early at lows and highs. An omni dbx mic was the worst (too much reverberation). …

Does anyone know why I can only set the same frequencies between my Wisycom MCR54 and MTP40s using the sync function? If i try to set them manually, it never works. The the same group number and channel number is always a different frequency on the TX and RX.

Hello, I wasn't able to find this topic so I thought I'd ask. I am not a beginner by any means, but I'd love input from true experts. I'd like to understand pros and cons to using traditional wireless (like sennheiser G4 level) and these new DJI wireless mics. I'd use the same b6 lavs. Why would I go the sennheiser route? It seems like a dumb question, but it seems like the 2.4 G digital signal might be cleaner and less noise than analog, and maybe less interference? I'm not usually in a congested area, and just doing interviews. I'm just wondering if it's one of those things that takes time for a whole industry to come around to change to what might…

I'm about to put a very long-needed Schoeps into my life. (Standard CMC641g/MK41 set). I'm seeking opinions on the CUT modules: should I go with the CUT 60, or seek out a CUT 1 on the used market? Thanks!

Just (finally) bought into the Smart Battery (after running the bag off Dtap V-locks and BPU batteries for ages)... Hot off the charger (with both the LED on top and the AudioRoot portable charger led's saying the battery is full - all illuminated constant) they measure wildly different voltages, and a fair bit lower than even 10yr-old vlocks. Everything is running through a BDS v4u, and I'm measuring the voltage using the displayed ext voltage on an RX200, nothing else in the bag turned on. Vlock measures 16.3v, while one IE is 15.7, another is 16.2, another was 16.0v. As all these batteries have the same 16.8v full-charge voltage, thi…

Due to the 600 MHz band going away, we recently replaced our Sennheiser microphone equipment with Lectrosonics SMDWB series microphone packs. We initially tried using NiMH rechargeable batteries, but found that the low initial voltage was causing shutdowns. Our morning show is nearly 6 hours long and the batteries just weren't lasting the whole show. We then switched to "Tenavolts" lithium rechargeable batteries and have been getting much better results with them, except for the occasional high pitched squeal or whine that happens sometimes, at a low level compared to the actual audio, after the mic packs have been on for several hours. These are the dual b…

Per request I have started a new thread for this topic. I originally posted it under the new Deva announcement as it pertains to Zaxcom users primarily. Let me risk sliding into a ditch on this one. I have been putting together an updated home rig Lynx Aurora VT16, SPL MixDream , Neve MBP among other pieces. In my rooting around and research Ext Clocking has reared its ugly head again. Here's the paper that stirred my interest. http://pinknoisemag.com/pink-papers/pink-paper-002 Granted we have very stable recording devices thanks to people like Glenn and other engineers…

Thinking of switching from the Ultrasync Ones to Deity TC-1, mainly because of their slate and some of the improvements to usability, like the clever mounting, built in scratch mic and minijack connector. I normally work on commercials and having reliable gear that doesn't mess up is a big thing for me. Does anyone here have experience with the TC-1? Would you trust a company like Deity for reliable gear?

Hello everyone, new guy here that is looking to get into location sound and hoping to focus on smaller budget films. I have been piecing a kit together over the past year so I'm ready to go when it's time to close the door on my current job. I have had the privilege of working on 2 indie films so far, one of the crews I worked alongside is based in Atlanta and I am considering moving there early next year if I can't find anything in my area (near north Dallas, TX). Listed below is what I currently have or looking to buy and was looking for advice on anything I might be forgetting/recommendations/etc. Money is not a huge factor but good deals are certainly welcomed and I'd…

Hello everybody, i just finished dante level 1. I want to use the Dante capabilities of my Cantar Mini. The idea is just to had a few iso's that i am missing with the physical inputs. I want to just out via the direct outs of a SD 442 to a Sonifex DIO 15 (4 Analog Line IN to Dante). I need a switch that is POE, can turn off EEE, with a minimum speed of 1Gb and ideally that is 12V. I saw already this thread and know a lot of people have much bigger dante setup. Do you think it's fine to use an unmanaged switch for this setup? Could you recommand me some switches that you are using and are stable. …

I started out as a mixer a few years ago (after learning from other mixers and from this very forum!) and bought my first set of wireless: four very cheap but well kept Lectro UCR205D with four UM200C. Since then, I’ve upgraded - first some Audio Ltd 2040s and more recently a lot of Wisy gear. I kept two of my 2040s and gave away/sold for cheap the rest to fellow mixers starting out. But what to do with those very reliable, extremely sturdy but heavy and outdated Lectro units ? I’ve been trying to figure out if I can use the transmitters for some IFB-like use, but this well-loved yet mostly useless drawer in my gear vault raised this question for me: what do yo…
