I have a bunch of unusable lavs. 10 to be exact. DPA had the hardening wire problem that got corrected. But long term COS11 seams like a bad investment. The wire become stinky and sticky! Sanken should correct this somehow.

My beloved Petrol harness is in need of a new snap release flexible hook. The part that clips to the bottom of your mixer bag. Trew Audio and ASC are not of any help. Any suggestions ?

Hi all, I’ve been looking into adding some custom molded in-ears to my kit for a few different reasons, but mainly so I have better isolation and can monitor at lower levels in loud environments. I’ve been testing out pairs from Alclair and Ultimate Ears as they both have places in Nashville where I can take in my mixer and compare models. I’ve been leaning towards the flat response versions of both, the UE RR+ Pro and the Alclair Studio4 Quad Driver. I would love to hear if anyone has experience on set with either or if anyone has other recommendations for custom in-ears with flat response (the universal fit cones always irritate my ears after an hour or two). …

Small recorders have gone big! There are now many "pocket recorders" available for well under $250 that have all the features we would typically ask for that previously have cost much more. For example both the Tascam DR-10L Pro and the Diety PR-2 have timecode functionality (both LTC-with-a-cable and wireless jam options), limiters and very long battery life and record capability. They also all seem to have 32 bit float these days.. but I guess let's not go there I mostly want to know how they sound paired with really good lavs. I'd like to use one of these to plant a 4060 or two on a boat to ride along with planted cameras and get something that might make …

Hi all, I’m considering battery options for my Sony UWP-D transmitters and wanted to get your opinions about actual runtimes and best choices. I’ve noticed that two Eneloop Pro AA NiMH batteries together deliver about 5.88Wh (~2,450mAh each at 1.2V), while the VHBW Li-Ion pack marketed for the UWP-D series lists 1,500mAh at 3.2V (about 4.8Wh). On paper, the Eneloop Pros seem to offer noticeably more usable energy than the Li-Ion pack, so theoretically, they should last longer between charges. However, I’m curious about real-world experiences: Has anyone compared these options in practice? Does the Li-Ion’s more stable voltage or different discharge pro…

I accidentally bought the wrong form factor smart battery, so I was wondering if anyone has any experience wtih the RH2024HD34 from Inspired Energy. The connectors seem ALMOST identical, and support the same smb smart battery protocols, so I was wondering if anyone has a cup adapter or a cup to hirose cable.

Hi everyone, I have a set of seven Sony UTX-B03 bodypack transmitters from the UWP-D series, and three of them have developed an intermittent connection at the minijack input (the classic "wiggle" issue). The audio cuts in and out when the cable moves, so I suspect the 3.5mm locking TRS connector needs to be repaired or replaced. Has anyone here already fixed this problem? How did you repair it? Were you able to find a genuine or compatible replacement minijack connector? Any tips on sourcing the spare part or advice on the repair process? Since multiple transmitters are affected, I’m especially interested in rel…

Hi everyone, I’m a location sound mixer using a Lectrosonics SRC + HMA Plug-On setup. I’m also using iZotope RX10 Advanced for post cleanup. During an indoor shoot yesterday, I placed a microphone close to a ceiling-mounted pinlight (not part of the lighting department's gear — it was part of the building). In the recording, there’s an unwanted electrical interference that appears in the 2.12s to 3.05s section, likely caused by that light fixture. I’d like to know if this can be cleaned up or repaired using Spectral Repair or any other RX module. If anyone has dealt with a similar issue or has tips for repairing this kind of noise, I’d be really grateful for y…

Hi all, I'm going to buy a new DPA 40xx lav mic, primarily for use with Wisycom Tx, but occasionally might use with a Zaxcom TRXLA3. I'm led to believe that the 4063 works best with the older Zax transmitters (before the newer models that give 5v), but should it be ok with the Wisy transmitter?

My setup: Sound Devices 788T iPad Mini 6th generation Latest version of iOS Has anyone experienced the same issue or found a workaround? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I’m curious who has picked up one of the RAD mounts from Radius and what do you think of it? Haven’t seen a lot of discussion about them other than the business side of things which I’m aware of. I’d like to hear from people who have used the new RAD mounts out in the field. I’m a Cinela fan but have also gone with the much cheaper invision mounts for certain mics and have been happy (MKH50 for example which is more forgiving). While I like Cinela mounts for their well thought out features and perfect match approach they are very pricey and I find their full blimp to be kind of heavy and fiddly. It’s great at its job but I sometimes find myself preferr…

The U.S. list prices of Schoeps mics have just gone up significantly. For example, a KMIT shotgun capsule has just gone from $1575 to $1869, an increase of $294.* I have not seen any statement from Schoeps, or its US/Canada distributor Redding Audio, about the reason for these increases. The increases appear to be much higher than what Redding would be paying in tariffs on new imports. As I understand it, the current tariff, until July 9th, is equal to 10% of the price that Redding would pay Schoeps for a newly imported mic. Two days ago, the US Court of International Trade held that the 10% tariff is illegal. The Court’s decision was unanimous. It…

I'm about to start a new side gig at a venue that uses a ClearCom (FreeSpeak) system for internal communications. I'll be on the live switching desk calling camera operations, video playout, etc. I'm never too keen on using pooled comms headsets so I'm going to pick up my own; however, I find the ClearCom headsets quite uncomfortable for all day wear and not especially interested in the other 'old school' options either. I'm going to be stationary at a switching desk either within the venue or a control room and have a bit of space to set up my kit. I'm considering picking up one of these adaptors: https://avlifesavers.com/bbb.htm and just heading it with an MM-1, that wa…

I am making a self sustained box for Rogers transmitter wifi amp and Vlock Battery. Amp works on 12V and ROgers fed from USB. I will try to make a Vlock plate with 12 to 5V converter to keep everything clean Any ideas? I was thinking of making a 2020 aluminum cage.

Just got my Nova back from repairs which also included fw upgrade. Now have a message - MRXs might not work properly with older firmware. i cant call tech support until thursday. Has anyone here had experience? I tried following the instructions but no luck getting the nova side to grab the update for the mrx’s: - zmt trx v4.xx set to mono - mrx v2.48 loaded on zmt micro sd - mrx set to same channel as zmt (although hd96 n stereo/xr only options?) - qrx update under settings set to “waiting” but process stops there

First product I’ve seen using the new WMAS technology. Can’t wait to see what others do with this tech, only a matter of time before us bag mixers get something small enough to use.

These days there are so many wireless coordination software apps that I don’t even begin to know where to start. It seems every company that manufactures anything wireless has their own software. I have an old Mac Mini (2012) on my cart with a dated OS that I use as a Pro-Tools (PT10) playback machine, and nothing else. I don’t particularly want to upgrade the OS and make my Pro-Tools no longer work on the machine, but I would like to incorporate some sort of wireless coordination software and not just rely on my receivers. I am mainly running Wisycom for talent mics, but still use some Lectro digital hybrids. I also have Lectro IFB (R1As), and Comteks (75 &…

So, after a year or so since the initial announcement, it seems this device is now available in shops somewhere below €500. Back in 2024, they advertised AES42 support, but today there seems to be no word about any digital input any more. AES42 is actually the main feature I'd be interested in. Deity also has an XLR5 input module that is similar to Zaxcoms TRX743 cones to support MS mics. (I suppose, that would suggest that the device can record though not transmit two tracks.) Maybe @Vincent R. or @Andrew From Deity could chime in if AES42 (or AES3) support is on board, is coming or is completely cancelled. If so, I'd highly be curious if the D4RX mentioned in the fo…

I dodged a bullet when a Powerex AA battery became lodged in my SD 302 and I was able to extract it. For a reason unknown to me, it had become swollen and wasn't coming out. I tried using a pencil-size magnet but no luck. Wig tape on a pen, no luck. Liquid nails on a dowel, no luck. In a desperation move I drilled into the battery and screwed in a 4 inch deck screw. I got it out, but it left a lot of residue in the tube. Using another tool for grabbing dropped nuts and bolts (did I say I have fat fingers?), I grabbed a cotton ball soaked in alcohol, and rammed it in and out until it was clean. All's good. I wouldn't reccomend this repair, unless you're a desperate…
