I'm looking for opinions about water resistance of sound bags from K-Tek and Orca. Previously, I owned a Petrol bag (now Sachtler) which I could confidently mix all day in a rainstorm because the material it was made of was rubberized and repelled water. Do Orca / K-Tek bags also have this feature? I've heard that K-Teks are more of a woven plastic, without the waterproofing treatment on the interior ... can anyone confirm this? Would love to hear from anyone who owns these bags. Also, a dark horse: Are there any Protogear bag users here? They look too small for what I want, but they seem to be made of neoprene?

Looking for some practical advice and insight... I own a Sennheiser 8060 and I use this fairly often, particularly for outdoors but also for wides indoors when my MKH50 won't quite reach. I've always struggled to find a suitable indoor shockmount that I like: the mic has a long front end, is very sensitive to swings, and all this makes finding adequate indoor 'wind' protection a challenge. The best solution so far has been the Bubblebee Windkiller, but even with the Sennheiser MZF8000 filter capsule, the fit isn't quite right and either the sound is coloured too much or there is some noise created. I have MacGyver'd a shockmount using Rycote lyres to try to…

My idea was to create a cart that contained everything for small and mid level assignments. I machined the handles, positional cable hooks, and the internal antenna masts locking blocks. I also made a retractable headphone holder under the right side tilt up table top. The handles are separated so I can get to the boom poles without lifting them over a handle bar. The 2 drawer units remove quickly when transporting the cart laying down. I used 1010 and 1020 T-slot profiles. The counter top surfaces are 3mm carbon fiber. I incorporated the Rack-N-Bag system with their docking brackets. The equipment in its rack can be removed in seconds and placed in an outer nylon sh…

Hi, I am looking for a replacement for my rode ntg3 as it is too heavy and too long for me. I need to use it on a boom or attach it to my audio bag or sometimes even use it on a camera. So it should be very small. Options to me are the Sennheiser mkh 8060 or the rode ntg5. Maybe the deity s-mic 2s but I think it's not directional enough. Do you think it's worth spending more for the Sennheiser 8060? Is it really better? More directionallity? Did anyone use one of the mics? Any other recommendations? Thanks for your help!

Does anyone know what the correct wiring would be for a Deity w.lav Micro for both servo and non-servo Lectrosonics (5-pin) transmitters? The cable is 2 wire. I know that their DA5S microdot adapter works best for me on both my Lectro SMWB and UM400 (not A) transmitters. I can't seem to take apart their microdot connectors to see what magic is happening inside.

I’m working a show where they do car scenes (go pros, drop audio bag in car, etc.) I’m looking for a solution or equipment to do high fidelity IFB sending from the go pro car to producer car. Obviously its a spotty situation, the cars are moving, so I’m sure that its just the situation but I was wondering if anyone knows of a fix or solve. Thanks! and of course I’m sure im not giving as much info as needed so feel free to ask for more.

Hello all. Never used Zaxcom before, but i was thinking if an old stereoline -RX900-S system can be used to transmit to my cart a stereo MS schoeps pair, powered by a good preamp.... I was reading a bit, and the rf "spread" of the tx should not be a problem in this setup, as no other wireless systems will be in the same bag. So for those who have used this system: How is the quality of the transmission?, signal to noise ratio? frequency response and distortion assuming the rf link is good and the original signal is a high quality one? I know new digital systems are better, but it's not the point in this thread. Thanks for your opinions!

I just got the SL-2 and installed the MCR54. But is there supposed to be a 1/2-inch gap between the them when slid in all the way? I saw a video from SD that showed the same thing with their MCR54, but is seems strange to have that gap, especially since the SL-2 locking mechanism doesn't really seem to 'lock' the receiver in place with the simple rubber pads providing just a friction hold. I wish I could use the screws on the receiver to truly lock it in place and that there was a proper middle part that would allow that. The Wisycom superslot back plate came with a spacer that is not compatible with the SL-2 - the screws are in the wrong spot and the edge pushes up again…

Posting this up wondering if anyone knows if this is a common problem with Sankens. I have a COS-11D that’s developed a noise issue. It still functions, but it has a very steady background roar-and-hiss. I’ve posted a spectrogram below, and there’s a recorded sample here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EQptjMDM5nR7KbdrmzqyE8lJQPcjETE8/view?usp=sharing This one is wired for Lectro, using “compatible” wiring. And for what it’s worth diagnosis-wise, it was re-cabled by Wilcox a couple of years ago. The recording and spectrogram show two segments of the bad Sanken alternating with two segments of a clean mic using the same Lectro Tx/Rx …

What are you thoughts on using a A20 Mini for boom use with UMP 3? Should give more dynamic range for scenes going from whisper to shout without extreme gain change. Thanks

Hello! Recently I found a problem in my gear (so, when all was brand-new it works perfect). If I connect with my power distro to recorder and RF distro I get a buzz noise in my wireless channels. I can solve it when power the recorder with AA batteries. I opened, cleaned and checked therminals in those items and I didn't find anything wrong. I don't have too much idea about electronics and I know my starter equipment is cheap but if someone can help me with the noise or recommend me solutions I will be very grateful. Thanks!! My equipment is: - V-Lock Patona (https://www.photospecialist.com/b-i-g-patona-premium-v-mount-battery-like-b) - Power di…

Has the Denecke TS-TCB stopped being made? As B&H, CVP, Pinknoise, etc all list it as "discontinued" or "out of stock". And others like say Gotham Sound doesn't list it at all (even though they carry other products from Denecke). https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1254743-REG/timecode_systems_ts_tcb_fcc_denecke_intelligent_hardware_clapper.html https://cvp.com/product/timecode-systems_ts-tcb.ce_intellislate The TS-TCB came out in 2014, are we're going to see soon a new updated replacement?

I’m interested in the Cedar units - particular their 8Live - for some projects. I’m disappointed that Cedar Audio’s User Manual or website doesn’t have some block diagrams or training videos. The only videos I’ve seen are more geared to marketing. Has anyone come across some information for actual usage - suggestions for settings, system setups, before and after sound clips, etc? I’ve seen discussions in other threads here about providing processed and raw tracks for clients, and that info is helpful to me but not quite on the mark for helping me figure out the best ways to integrate a DNS unit into the signal flow. Thanks.

Hi there, it's been a while since I posted. happy this community is still existing. I've had peace with my Nomad/RX12 Setup for some time but sometimes I have to do bag jobs and I realize I need to get the weight down. So my colleague has a Nova which he normally also uses also with an RX12 but now we are trying to get the NOVA Doc-Setup working and unfortunantely it's not behaving how it should do... this is the situation after installing 2 QRX212 into the Nova1: I can see the QRX212 modules being recognized and I can set frequency and modulation so that I can get reception. But there is only reception on 1 of the four possible channels. That's in dual m…

You folks may already know this, but the Mozegear MiniPapi is out. They have fixed the issues with the earlier (proto) versions that were circulating--this one sounds quite good, powers mics just fine and has a very usable continuous low rolloff filter, limiter, pad and gain control with an LED ladder meter. I'm going to make a camera-type power cable so I can hand it off to those folks determined to go doco-camera-mic with Alexa Mini.... Just ordered DTap to Hirose cables and TA3F to (cough) Alexa Mini mini-Lemo cables....pricey stuff. My local rental house peeps say the Alexa Mini is on fire as a rental right now, so here we go. Tell me again why the …

I would appreciate some help in understanding this system. I will likely buy either Zaxcom or Lectrosonics. I haven’t been able to reach anyone in Zaxcom Sales or Tech Support for two days. I don’t want to start a debate on the two systems. They are both top quality professional systems. I have a decent understanding of Lectrosonics L Series and just need the same understanding of Zaxcom. The initial use will be very simple for commercials/promos/documentaries, with expansion for indies later: - A DPA 4060 lav mic wired to the transmitter (as an option to our Sennheiser MKH-416 shotgun mic). - The receiver will be wired into a Soun…

SOLVED: Fellow sound people, Has anyone successfully used a DPA MMP-C preamp with an SKP 500 plug-on transmitter? I have a G2 version on loan and am only getting serious noise, but no actual signal through. I’m guessing it has something to do with the power supply. The B-preamp works fine on the plug-on and the C works fine on other ph48 sources. It really seems to be the combination of MMP-C and SKP 500, which isn’t working. I’m curious, if a G4 might work better than the G2 I tested with. Any input is appreciated! Thx!

I own a Lectrosonics MM400C with Countryman EMW, and never thought of using them in salty water. My coming project consists of a scene with two characters talking in the sea. It's scripted, and the director says he won't let the actors go too offshore. Once the sea level reaches their waists, the director's going to call a cut. So I'm considering to take a risk to mic them up. However, if some accident happens, e.g. a sudden wave, and the lav gets soaked, what measures should I take to reduce the salt damage as much as possible? Thanks.

Hi to Sound Devices Users, I wonder if anyone with a Sound Devices recorder has an idea of how long it generally takes to "recharge" an internal timecode/system battery from a depleted state? I have a MixPre 10T and some functions go haywire when the internal timecode/system battery is low or depleted. I can't find a way to know what this internal battery charge status is in any menu so am having to guess as to when the charge is proper and how long to leave it recharging. After reading different posts I am told that in order to get this internal battery up to an adequate or full charge, connecting to hirose wall power is recommended. The thing I a…
