Anyone aware of or ever had custom built a AA p48 supply? The Denecke PS-1A or the PSC box of the same variety are fine but in certain situations it'd be really handy to have one in a tube, so you could throw a AA in there and be done with it. Much like an ME66 or Rode Ntg-2. Does a standalone external one exist? if not, why?

SOLVED: Fellow sound people, Has anyone successfully used a DPA MMP-C preamp with an SKP 500 plug-on transmitter? I have a G2 version on loan and am only getting serious noise, but no actual signal through. I’m guessing it has something to do with the power supply. The B-preamp works fine on the plug-on and the C works fine on other ph48 sources. It really seems to be the combination of MMP-C and SKP 500, which isn’t working. I’m curious, if a G4 might work better than the G2 I tested with. Any input is appreciated! Thx!

We currently own and operate a Sound Devices 688 with older Lecto UCR411s. We have not upgraded our mixer because when we got the 688 seems like it was 6 months later that the 833 and 888 and Scorpio camera out, which put kind of sucked. We have not wanted to upgrade the wireless due to the fact that the spectrums we all changing, luckily we are in bands the were not affected, but can defiantly tell there is more frequency congestion now. Now that things are moving more to digital on the wireless side we are considering doing a full or partial upgrade. We mostly do commercials, docs and some tv show work, not many films, but lots of bag work. What would you upgrade …

I have had this full spectrum combo for a little over 8 months now, each time I use as a hop it seems to "dial in" differently. Cant seem to find the sweet spot, I deliver signal to DCHT line level +23 linked... DCHR gain+5, ( borrowed FS7) pots @ 9 to make -20 in camera meters. I have done DCHT +29 line level, DCHR gain +0, FS7 pots @ 8 to make -20. Any words of wisdom from the community?

Hey folks, Seeing as I am going to be in San Francisco on a shoot for around 4 months, I thought it might be a good idea to find out if there are any local sales/hire joints for location audio, just in case any of my gear decides to act up. I did a quick google but didn't find anything The last time I was in SF I bought from LSC, but if there is more urgency, it would be nice if there was something a little closer. Cheers, Jason

Just thought I would ask if I could put lithium aa Batteries in my Deneke TS-C timecode slate. I have a bunch that came out of my Zaxcom hop. Some I had to take out half way thru there life, so why not put them in the slate? Thanks everyone. Brian.

Anyone out there use the side pouches for Zaxcom QRX or CL's? anyone possibly have a better solution? the stock orca pouches are way too small but i really like working this way. it works for now and also helps switching with my petrol for a larger rig. i plan to upgrade that rig to an orca bag soon. i called orca to try and buy the plastic pieces that interface with the bag side receivers but they did not have any available. i would like to make my own larger sized clip on pouches but cant figure out a good way to at present. sorry for bad image. anyone else have success? -Ken

I just saw an SQN 4S mixer online that has different meters on it than mine (which is a more common 1-7 range, left to right). I know they came in different configurations. Can anyone tell me what range that is (I assume dB) and what it's best used for? It reminds me of the modulometer on my analog Nagra. Thanks.

Hello, A total newb here to audio work. I've been reading up on mixing and came across the idea of having a central speaker with one cone focused on mid range frequencies for checking basic eq, frequency masking, compression?, phase shifts etc.. Then one would come across the NS-10 with toilet paper, Auratone 5C, its modern clones (including Auratone's own duplicate of it's 1985 version of the Auratone 5C, but with more range and hi-fi sound apparently). But I cannot justify paying hundreds of dollars for those types of speakers. In fact, there was a thread on this forum in 2013 that chuckled at how much the Auratone 5C were selling for even though…

Hi all, Investigating a new, small 12VDC worklight for a cart. I'm familiar with the Littlite family of products, but curious if anyone's found alternatives or things they like better. Thanks!

Hello Engineers! I recently acquired a 788 CL8 combo. I have a question regarding panning. I see where I can pan a pair of linked channels, but can I pan a mono input other than simply hard L/R or center? Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone had insight or guidance as to what they typically do regarding proximity effect considerations for dialogue workflow. I have a few microphones where I have the option of using the proximity rolloff (CMIT 5, MKH-50), but I was interested in hearing whether others use them. I also have a CMC641 but I wasn't sure if it was typical for others to add an additional proximity rolloff during interviews given how close the microphone can be at times (8-10 inches or so). The guidance that I have gleaned from the manufacturers is that it becomes a noticeable issue at distances of about 20" to 24" or less. Some advi…

Hi everyone, I've been tapped for a last minute job and am trying to send AES digital channels from two QRX200s through the XL-AES into my 833. The XL-AES is installed and the expansion port on the 833 is turned on. Each channel allows me to select 1-8 XL-AES inputs. The QRXs have AES digital enabled on 1/2 and 3/4. AES output rate is Normal. AES outputs are set to Normal (split) and each of the two ta5 connectors is plugged into a ta3 on the XL-AES. I'm getting nothing. Test tone from the QRXs appears on none of the selected XL-AES inputs and neither does audio from a transmitter. The 833 is version 6.1. Any help would be hugely appreciated. …

Just read Mark Ulano's article in the Locatiosound corp. newsletter. Wow. What a setup ! If you haven't read it yet, i highly recomend you check it out. He talks about how he has incorporated the Aviom digital snake into his package. The boom oop gets his own cart with 2 venue RX's Comtek TX's and a couple of other things I'm missing. Mark can receive all 16 channels through 1 Cat 5 cable that basicaly costs 15 to 30 cents a foot !! and is nice and small, light and can be bought at any computer or electronics store. He even manages to also get 2 video feeds all through this one cable. Not to mention all the stuff he sends back to the boom ops end. Anyways, I've probably b…

Hi all, Has anyone had any experience shooting with this camera, I have a job on Wed that we are using 2 of them and I got a call from post today to talk about a few things, it does a 24bit audio recording that post would like to use as a master? Any fan issues, this seems like a newer version of the F35 that I have worked with before, it is using the same back panel/controller interface. Anyway, thanks in advance for any help.

Greetings all, All the recent buzz with digital mixers and I'm looking the other direction mainly because there are times where AC is not an option. So, looking at Analog Mixers I have questions about the AD256 / AD146. I've seen in person the AD149 but did not get a chance to listen to it or work with it. Curious why the AD256 is less expensive than the 149? I'm sure both are top notch performers and the 149 has an advantage if you want digital outputs, but is there something in the type of Mic Preamps on the the AD149 that make up the price difference?? Thx

It was bound to happen, losing mic mounts is part of the business and need to get more COS 11 vampires. I was very fond of the Pro Sound mounts for the COS 11 but they’re out of business. LMC dominates the market but these mounts just don’t hold on to body of a COS 11 firmly and curious to see if there is any competitors to LMC. There’s plenty of cases where I go to COS 11 in a vampire and I really don’t like the LMC compared to my original set of Pro Sound mounts. Anyone? Please?

Testing out this sound backpack build. I'm working on a very fast paced, run-and-gun project with up to 3 wires at any time, and they wanted to be as inconspicuous as possible. I put this rig together very quickly using my Orca backpack with a Sound Devices MixPre-6, a QRX100QIFB and a RX200 for 3 wireless channels, a TCS USO feeding timecode to both the MixPre-6 and the QRX100QIFB to send timecode out to the transmitters and timecode and audio to the ERX on camera. Custom molded in-ears come out of the back pack for critical monitoring in noisy environments, as well as a boom cable for the occasional booming. Transport controls and visual level monitoring via Wingman app…
