Hi, I was watching the apple events today, and was wondering, how they are doing audio for their release events. Some of the clothes they have, such as labor suite, can not be so silence and rustle free, especially when all the mics are not to be seen. And the voice is so clean, sounds like recorded in a dub-studio. Just interested, if they are recording the audio from location, or dubbing everything in studio afterwards. Thanks.

Still early days, but I imagine that once this tech improves, it might serve as a replacement for some ADR. I would have to assume that SAG would include language to limit its use, but for indies and for general walla, those might someday serve as a kind of "stock footage", or even a plugin: https://www.aflorithmic.ai/post/creating-einsteins-voice

Hi everybody I would just like to express my deepest admiration for the sound crews working on the "Real Housewives" TV-series around US. Great work! Whenever my girlfriend watches those shows, I'm get the chills thinking about where and how the lav mics are hidden, and they are always very well hidden and sound great. We all know how difficult it can be to properly hide a lav mic and make it sound good - then add tight evening dresses showing a lot of skin and made of synthetic fabric, tons of hair-spray and make-up, table-flipping divas and tight schedules. This came up in another discussion thread and i was curious to know if any nova operators are using built in noise reduction. This is new to me, and It seems like something plausible for camera tracks for clients who edit straight from camera with unaffected tracks as backup, etc. does anyone here do something similar? What might be your workflow?

It falls on you as the DP to stand up for your co-worker/business associates. I've never heard a sound guy say " oh I just need to put this camera on sticks and we're rolling!". You will never hear me say "we don't need a DP, I can get usable footage". It's all about we not about me. I know how to use lenses, what focal length, shutter speed, ISO, color temp, you name it. I get asked frequently to use the camera and decline because I know someone wants that job way more than I do. I would be taking their position and pay from them while doing a poor job at the same time. I know this benefits the budget to make one person do two people…

Is there a contract rate for Music Playback operators? I didn't see the position specifically listed in the ASA, so mostly wondering where they usually fall. Also, if a sound utility operates playback for a scene, would that re-rate them for the day, assuming the playback rate is higher?

I'm looking for a simple invoicing app that allows me to create while on the road with my iPhone or at home on the lap top, but also keeps either device in sync (cloud service). Closest thing I found so far is "invoice2go", but they don't seem too interested in ever finishing the OSX native side of the program to go with the mobile app. I'm curious to hear what others are using and recommend.

Hi together. We are shooting in a location with lot of reverberation because of the high ceilings. I am using a hypercardiod mic AKG C480 which I always use inside. The boom sounds difficult even when 50cm away. All actors are laved and I dial in some amount to the boom. I have told the production about the problem and suggested to hang molton on the ceilings. They have no time either the personal to do it. Also I cant use blankets because of the limited space. Does somebody have some suggestion?

First off I wanted to say thank you to everyone who posts here. I have followed the boards for several months now, working hard to learn as much as I can and to begin developing a very basic understanding of sound from the production point of view. I do have an understanding from the post side, where I have 15 plus years experience working with NLE's and about 5 years working with ProTools. But that is not recent experience. So I've always been fascinated by the history of sound recording, especially when it comes to early television. I know there have been some pretty interesting threads before regarding old techniques. But I am often surprised by the quality of recordings done even in early 60's. Take this clip for example, from the Andy Williams show in 1966. As far as I can tell, the dialogue and singing does not sound pre-recorded/lip-synced. How was this recorded? Just with one overhead (Fisher) boom mic? What kind of pattern? And a ton of reverb? Hey all, I'd like to have a custom sound (think the noise from The Vast of Night, as an example) created for use on an upcoming student film I'm helping shoot/produce. I've never done anything like this before so I'm sort of lost as to what exactly I should be seeking out in terms of jobs/service, and also what I should expect to pay. Last April I started to have some balance problems. I just finished a movie and I had used an earbud for the radio and headphones over that for the mixer. I had become used to not hearing all the sound of the mixer in the left ear. Shortly after the movie went dark because of covid I had trouble talking on the phone with that ear. I had hurt them before with loud sounds and just figured it was the two way radio and the ears always recovered. The balance continued to be a problem and has slowly become better. Hi everyone, first post I have a 416T with a noise problem - I connect via a 48V adapter barrel (works fine with other 416Ts I have), enable 48V and about 5 sec later get a massive amount of noise with a crackling voice buried underneath. As I said the cables/adapter work 100% with other 416Ts I have. I've opened the mic up and can't see any loose or shorting wires...however touching around with a screwdriver while 48V is engaged does seem to make the noise disappear, leaving only the voice sometimes, in partic touching the wires that go from the bottom of the main wiring assembly down to the connectors. I've tried to remove the C-ring so I can open up the XLR part but …

Hi there, me and another sound guy are shooting a feature in the Bahamas and today we've come across a "clicking" sound in our line. As the boom op i am hearing it on my end and its going all the way to the track. It sounds kinda like the clicking of a clock. We are using a Schoeps CMC6 with a 744T as the recorder. Any help would be great. I have heard stories of the Schoeps acting up in high humidity situations could this possibly be the problem?

Hi I have just done first week on a feature and have run into a problem particularly with one of our actors......This a radio mic heavy, wide n tight 2 camera shoot.
