I am looking at a Schoeps kit for documentary work. Currently have only MKH 416 and DPA 4063 lav. Many situations don't work with these mics: Stationary single person interview (3-10ft to subject) – Can lock in on subject at +/-15 degrees – Usually inside but sometimes outside. Walking, outside interview with Steadicam (6-12ft) – Subject can get off-center, maybe +/- 30 degrees. Discussion with 3-5 people (6-12ft.) - Spread across 120-180 degrees – Often in a barn, winery, or outside. I know it is preferable to use much shorter mic-to-subject distances, but if you're talking with farm or vineyard workers on-the-job, they don't easily stand …

I'm the "documentarian" for our garden club. Used to shoot just photos of guest speakers, I now want video. I have a Canon Vixia HF G10, but like anything, if I want to get the speaker, I'll need a mic. Since we do hands-on work in our field (sometimes IN a field), I'm looking at a wirelessa lav mic kit. Second, I'd like the presenter to also take questions from the audience, so now I need a handheld mic. Third, I have a Rode shotgun mic that I use for my children's school performances, I can use this for background. Lav, handheld, stereo shotgun: that's 4 channels. Budget: $500 $1000 $1500 (firm) This is MY mad money and I'm at the level of pain and doub…

I am using all MM400 TX now and have polled a number of people off group and want more feedback, I have found that RED Band Countryman B6 is the best choice for all situations with MM400 With the Sanken cos-11 I have found that I tend to reach for regular type about 60% of the time and RED Dot rest of the time. I don't like the noise floor of mm400 if I have to turn in up past 11 ( 40%) with a softer spoken person on a RED Dot What are most of you using with MM400?

I have recently acquired 3 of these and they all seem to be in working order. They came with a WRT-27 xmitter which is in the STL 900 MHz band. They sound fine here in the shop. Is this a silver version of the ECM 50? Are there power supplies with bayonet mount still around? Thanks, Ty Ford

Hello everybody, i just finished dante level 1. I want to use the Dante capabilities of my Cantar Mini. The idea is just to had a few iso's that i am missing with the physical inputs. I want to just out via the direct outs of a SD 442 to a Sonifex DIO 15 (4 Analog Line IN to Dante). I need a switch that is POE, can turn off EEE, with a minimum speed of 1Gb and ideally that is 12V. I saw already this thread and know a lot of people have much bigger dante setup. Do you think it's fine to use an unmanaged switch for this setup? Could you recommand me some switches that you are using and are stable. …

hello everybody, I'm curious what do you all use. I have the remote audio video assit kit but the antenna is poor and have seen some pretty nice montior setups on some of the sound cart pics. Some product names would be helpful as there's more than a few options out there. regards Scott

So, apologies if this has been discussed recently, but I couldn't find it. I'm buying an SRc for a friend (no, really!) and need to know the skinny on what's going on at the FCC in terms of the future. What would you buy today? A1, B1 or 941? Committed to Lectro, only. Getting out of C1. The 941 maybe less traffic, but it's only one block! Discuss, please.

Hello Newb question, maybe. I'm getting a high pitched whine from a cheap set of hyper mics into a 702T. Its a faint, ghosty whine that goes up...then down..repeat. These mics (both) are fine in other recorders, and other mics are fine in this same recorder. It happens in spaces with possible emi/rfi and not in others, and sometimes it occurs outside in wooded areas. I dont want to throw out the mics cause they are (were) good stunt mics. It sounds like power oscillating. Perhaps having to do with the aging 48v ? Sorry if it was something simple. Thanks All Mart Colvin Chas SC

So I have two Sennheiser ek3041 receivers in block 23. One antenna set is exactly the correct length (according to the remote audio cutting guide), the other set is actually a better length for block 22. (about a quarter or of an inch too long) My question is, is it worth the risk of potentially mangling the thick coil type antenna by trimming it or is a one block discrepancy in antenna length a negligible difference? Antennas for the ek3041s are terminated with a special lemo pin and expensive to replace outright. Also, both transmitter antennas are the correct length. I've never noticed a big difference in real world performance but it's a hard thing to compar…

In my bag I have an SRc in band A and 2 block 21 SRb's. If I wanted to run everything through an RF distro like the PSC RF MULTI SMA, which sized whips could be used for best performance for all blocks involved? (470, 19, 20, 21) Thanks, Ben Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk

I'm looking to purchase a portable field recorder to keep on me at all times, in order to capture those golden sounds we all come across day to day. I'm well aware of the usual suspects (H4N, M10, etc.) but what would you consider the creme de la creme, the absolute god of the portable field recorders? Some more background info: I want a recorder with built in or small attachable microphones. External mics and pres are a no go for this one. Has to be a single handheld device. I currently have a beautiful location rig consisting of sound devices recorders and schoeps/dpa mics, etc. This would be purely for spur of the moment capturing, not planned recording sessions…

Hello everybody, I'll be soon recording sound for a documentary shooting Russia, very far east close to the border with China. It's quite remote so i would expect too much UHF interferences but does anyone know what frequencies can be used in this region ? Knowing that wireless kit available around here (Belgium) are covering approximatly 510-565 MHz. Thank you very much and have a nice weekend ! Laszlo

Though odd looking, the squared tumbleweeds are fully compatible with the rounder ones, often traveling in the same pack. The squared corners cause the squared version to bounce higher, catching more wind and adding to their range. Plant biologists think the squared shape is an evolution biased towards higher packing density, since it is well known that the West is running out of tumbleweed room. Best Regards, Larry Fisher

Please do not post unless you both use LectroRM and have purchased or plan to purchase an Apple Watch. I am trying to get an actual count.

Hey, I've been using a 788 and cl-9 happily for a number of years on my cart. I find I'm doing scripted drama with higher actor numbers and I do wish I had more channels available. Like many of you I've been waiting for a replacement to the 788 but there's none presently forthcoming (NAB 2016 anyone?!?). I'm just wondering has anyone been in my position and made the move to the 688 and a cl-12 and if they would care to share their feelings on it. Thanks in advance!

Help an oldster with this: why use an AES feed to a (newish) camera instead of an old-school balanced analog line feed? When you hook up this way are you listening to a return from the camera, which I assume would be unbalanced analog from a headphone jack? Or is that not true? It seems to me that all the issues I've ever had with analog line feeds to cameras have been with the unbalanced returns picking up crap, not the balanced feeds going TO the camera. Is AES something you use with wireless hops to cams, to help avoid the cables from the RX to the cam input picking up crap from all the focus/video etc gak on the camera? Thus you are using RX that make AES outpu…

So many sound ppl are using comteks nowadays as their IFB solution but I recently used them for a bigger production and to be honest... they sound HORRIBLE... How are you people sacrificing sound quality that much for director, Scripty and producers? I know the range is great, they are sturdy, easy to use, don’t interfere with the rest of your RF spectrum, etc, but I didn’t know they sound THAT bad... I use Senheiser G3 IFBs and the sound is incredibly good, good range, easy to use but not that sturdy... I’m pretty sure Lextrosonics and Zaxcom are good too. Just wanted to hear your opinions. Best, Manuel. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have two Lectrosonocs 411s in the same block that yield different results when scanning. Why os this? How can it be? This scan isn't the most extreme difference that I've experienced, but you should notice that the unit on the right shows stronger signal where the other is also receiving and shows signal where the other shows it's clean. Other times, I've had the unit on the right pickup on all frequencies while the other shows several empty spaces. Is this normal for multiple units in the same block? Perhaps a trip to Lectro is in order? Derek Haff Midwest Audio: KC / Springfield

Hello, Why do Remote Audio multi pair cables for Sound Devices 552 and 664 only have mono audio return? Is the limiting factor the Hirose 10pin connector or the "break-away" connector, or is it the total number of wires in the mult cable? Do any other multi pairs for the 552/664 offer stereo audio return? If so how are they different? Thank you.
